Flash Move: No explanation. Rapid-movement spell.
Fire Lash: Glen's bind spell. Fire whips from his fingertips and binds his opponent. A second version of this, Fire Lash EX, binds his opponent without him having to hold the lashes.

Combination Spells:
Plasma Firebolt: {Fate} A simple combination spell developed on the fly when Fate and Glen needed a quick boost in spellpower. Fate summons up some Plasma Lancers, and Glen infuses them with some of his own magic, creating shocking flaming burst sphere. Each sphere is about as powerful as 3 Plasma Lancers.

Akashic Buster: {Franz} Glen forms a Midchildan circle in front of him and concentrates fire energy through it. The fire morphs into a birdlike shape. When this happens, Franz infuses lightning into it, which propels it forward and holds its shape. Soon after, Glen charges through the circle and merges with the fire/lightning bird. The following attack tends to pierce his opponent.

Rampage Ghost: Spiral Shift: {Emili} Glen's most powerful spell. He and Emili both unload 3 cartridges in their devices. Glen summons Cosmic Nova while Emili casts Diamond Dust. The spells merge, forming a burst of fire/ice energy. The Cosmic Nova replicates, splitting into eight spheres of energy. These energy spheres are set to target someone, then fly forward. As they fly, Glen and Emily call out "Rampage Ghost!" Upon this, the Diamond Dust begins to take the shape of flying ghosts. On the unison phrase "Spiral... SHIFT!" the eight spheres begin to twist rapidly around each other. They form a spiral shortly before slamming home into their opponent, usually destroying them utterly. I can see a lot of Super Robot Wars references here. Cybuster? Check. Alt Eisen/Weiss Ritter? Check. Good job. Looking forward for more.

*chuckles* Thank you, thank you. As for the hot blood... his bonuses are a little different. He thinks faster and reacts faster, and can charge up his attacks a bit faster, since I have a theory that hot blood makes magic flow faster. At the end of the day though, the disadvantages still don't quite outwiegh the benefits - Giga Drill Breaker is powerful, but when you can defeat it with Barrier Burst...There's actually another Clannad reference in Franz's bio; his next door neighbours are very muchly based off Akio and Sanae.

Yeah, but my observations have been that while GAR exists, hot blood is an alien concept in the nanoverse, thus needing to be adjusted...

Franz's hot blood bonuses are an increased reaction time, faster thought processes (with a bent towards destructive spells) and Giga Drill Breaker, which needs hot blood to be used, regardless of cartridges. My handwaving reason is that hot blood flows through the veins faster, which means that the magic flows out of the linker core into the spell faster, which gives a faster acivation/charge time for spells... on the other hand, he's still a beam magnet. Can't make him too gar

I think the current level of control is okay. Life is full of tradeoffs and balancing acts.

For some reason, Satashi's stuff just doesn't really do it for me. *shrug* Dunno why, but I kinda thought her stuff was a little off...

It is never a good idea to make your air support angry or hurt her feelings, especially if she's your "little-sister-not-related-by-blood"; she's liable to ignore your frantic request for air support, or she might make a ..."Near Miss"... and almost blow your head off.

Sad but true. *sighs* I also read a fair bit of W.E.B. Griffin, David Weber and John Ringo. Ringo especially has a knack for interactions - I recommend the "March" series of books he co-wrote with Weber.

And as I said, the only way Franz had a snowball's chance in hell of defeating Beamspam-chan was his hot blood... but it wasn't enough to make up the difference in skill.

On the other hand, he pwns the Aces and almost everyone in RF6 in terms of stamina and hot blood.

TSAB Profile: Second-in-Command of the Order of Freelance Mages, Glen is one of the youngest unit's commanders; at 25, he's second only to Emili Naïlo in being the youngest. In his eleven years of service to the OFM, he has experienced the full gamut of battles that they go through, and typically operates as the commander of the OFM's Air Wing (whilst Erick leads the Ground Force). A capable Magic Knight, there is one tick about him that sets him apart from his contemporaries: His fire magic, and an odd distortion in his Linker Core that manifests the "Berserk State".

Personality:
- Alignment: Chaotic Good

Of the four leading OFM mages, Glen is considered the "terse, unfriendly, taciturn, straight man." He's the one who has to talk the other three "less thinking" leaders from doing something insane. He's the one who gives Franz most of his Paperwork (like Ivanovich, he believes in full use of Unlimited Paper Works), helps Erick come up with plans that follow the KISS principle (aka Keep It Simple, Stupid) without being too simple (Erick prefers the "run in and gun 'em all down" strategy; Franz prefers victory through, quote: "Determination, Hotblood, Courage, and the power of the True Spirit of Men!"). He trains Franz on a semi-regular basis. Oh, and he also has a girlfriend: Emili Naïlo.

In essence, he's the Fuyutsuki to the Gendo (if Gendo were hotblooded), the Rossiu to the Simon, the Kyon to the Haruhi, the master to the apprentice. In his own mind, he's also the most normal one (though insanity is probably a requirement to get into the OFM).

Contrary to popular belief though, Glen is not really an unfriendly guy; rather, he's simply withdrawn. Yes, he's blunt, but he prefers the straight and narrow approach when it comes to dealing with people (including Franz... especially Franz). Once you get to know him, he's actually not a real bad guy. Past the intimidation is just your average Magic Knight.

Of course, getting that close to him is a problem. Glen has an introverted attitude in part from how he grew up and in part from his... Berserk State (more on that later). It takes some time and effort, and only a few people have managed to get close to him. Emili obviously is close to him, and Erick has been close to him ever since he was 14, having almost raised Glen from then on. As for the established OCs and Aces, the only ones really close to him are Kha and Fate. The former is because he and Fate are an "item". The latter is because at some point during MC073 Glen found himself torn between Fate and Emili. "Damn emotions..."

History:
Glen was born on Soto eight years before the Subjugation War. As a child, he possessed no special or exemplary skills in anything, and his parents were consigned to letting him grow up into another normal kid.

During the war, however, that was shot out the window. His father was called back into active duty and subsequently killed, and Erusian soldiers kidnapped his mother, ultimately using her as bait in a failed "Hostage Negotiation". Orphaned, the TSAB rescued him (and countless other orphans) and placed them in a shelter until they began to pull out. Less than six hours after leaving his homeworld, 8-year old Glen saw as Sotoa was nuked 3 thousand times over. His homeworld, destroyed by his own race's hands, was a scar that to this day has never left him.

The TSAB conducted some tests on the orphans that made it offworld, including Glen. They found that 1% of them had stable-enough Linker Cores to utilize magic, and took this 1% to another world (codenamed "Outer Heaven"), and began to raise them while training them in Project ATX - Alternative Type X Magic. This magic style was supposed to utilize Ancient Belkan Magic and Devices with Midchildan Magic mixed in. This project would eventually die out in favor of the Neo-Belkan project, but for six years Glen and 39 other orphans would learn this type of magic.

Shortly before his 14th birthday, during a training session, a 35 year old Erick von Long visited the ATX facilities on Outer Heaven (the project wasn't exactly secret; this project and the forerunner of Neo-Belkan magic were at odds). He was impressed by Glen's skill at such a young age at had him taken out of the project (by this point, Erick had some influence) and put into the Order of Freelance Mages. When he joined, Erick took a necklace and put it around Glen's neck in a flash (similar to how Kamina put the Core Drill on Simon's).

"Well, kid," he said. "This'n here is called Phoenix. Treat 'er well, and she'll do ya right."

Erick received Phoenix from a retired TSAB mage. He had been holding on to it, and since he couldn't use it, decided to give it to Glen, who at the time of their meeting was practicing the Belkan-style of Magic. Phoenix and Glen's magic mingled well together, and soon after Glen started to develop his affinity for Fire-based magic.

This is when the problems started.

The problem was the Berserk State; a mental imbalance in Glen's mind that also affected his Linker Core. Triggered by a swell of negative emotion from him (such as sadness or anger), the Berserk State pushed Glen's conscious mind down and brought out a second personality known as "Id". This ruthless, vengeful personality would stop at nothing to destroy whatever had caused this emotion, ignoring the pain of his body. The initial trigger of the Berserk State happened on the same planet that would eventually be the death of the former OFM XO. A firefight that killed another young boy Glen had become friends with unleashed the Berserk State, and in the ensuing chaos Glen cut a swath through their opponents with nothing short of a blazing fire.

Glen was hospitalized for two weeks after this, having burn marks and mana depletion. In order to prevent something like this from happening again, Erick had Glen placed under hypnosis therapy to rid himself of "Id" and keep him stable until a more permanent solution could be found. This took time and effort: Erick went to non-TSAB sources - sources that could get him court-martialed - if his superiors found that he was keeping a mentally unstable person in the OFM.

At any rate, Glen calmed down for many years, eventually becoming XO of the OFM and taking on Franz as an apprentice. Around MC069, his mental instability began to return, and Erick needed to find a more permanent solution. He went to longtime friend/rival Aurion, and together the two worked on installing a special limiter in Phoenix that would not stop, but limit, the outbursts of "Id". Only strong emotional trauma could bring Id out, so long as Glen had Phoenix with him. As such, after the Limiter was placed, Glen was ordered never to take it off.

Shortly after meeting the Aces and the Wolkenritter, Glen and a new recruit named Emili Naïlo began to see each other. Though his personality was mostly the same, there were subtle changes in his attitude, especially around her. She helped stabilize him further, and over the course of 4 years the two have formed a very close relationship. It's not exactly love - both have a very difficult time with the concept - but it's more than friends, not quite lovers.

As for the other Aces, Glen has slowly developed a small friendship with them, though "polite acquaintance" may be more correct. Except when it comes to Fate T. Harlown and Kha der Kleriker. Peculiarly, Glen holds Fate in especially high regard, insofar as to start falling for her, and thus by proxy he and Kha have a small rivalry.

Over the course of his interactions with the Aces and Wolkenritter, he and Signum have reached a mutual respect and comraderie with each other. Both spar when they can, sharpening their skills for when it's needed. Signum is happy to teach someone her old Belkan style, which the ATX project used.

The last few years have been interesting for him. For some reason or another, Glen can do "Combination Magic"; a term he came up with simply because he can't come up with anything else. Perhaps due to the odd nature of his fire affinity (Erick thinks that, deep down, Glen has a fire affinity because of watching the nukes go off on Sotoa), he can mix his and someone else's magic spells together, and together the two can use a more powerful attack. To date, there's only three people he's been able to do this with: Emili is one and the most powerful Combination Spell (and maybe the most powerful spell in the OFM), called Rampage Ghost: Spiral Shift. Next would be Franz, his apprentice; Franz's lightning is necessary, oddly, to hold the fire together for their Akashic Buster spell. Finally, during a deployment, Glen and Fate did an impromptu combination spell, Plasma Firebolt.

The Id State still exists within him as well. Anytime Emili is heavily injured, Id manifests and takes him over, and the Berserk State is reached. In one case, Glen entered the state when Fate was heavily injured, suggesting perhaps she's closer to him then he really wants to admit.

Now, as Erick looks at the future of the OFM, Glen... can only sigh and plant a palm to his face. "Yare, yare..."

Device:
Glen's Device is a cartridge-loader equipped longsword named Phoenix. It looks like an average longsword, with a silver hilt and the engraving on a phoenix going down both sides. Cartridges are loaded into the pommel of the sword - up to 3 at a time. The Phoenix, as noted earlier, was given to him by Erick when he joined the OFM, as Glen at the time had used no other device than the practice Devices used in Project ATX.

Phoenix may have a connection to Laevantein. Signum seems familiar with the Phoenix yet has said nothing, and their cartridges look similar as well.

Phoenix speaks with a light female's voice, and refers to Glen as "Komponist" (Composer). Phoenix's spell trigger is "Ignite!"

Knight Armor: Instead of a Barrier Jacket, Glen wears a set of Knight Armor that resembles a star's flames. (See above image)

Interesting. I'm loving the references here. And don't worry about similarities with some of my characters. I've already redone the ATX team as my OC's with completely new names.

By expending all 3 cartridges in Phoenix, Glen forms a Belkan circle under him and a Mid-Childan circle in front of him whilst simultaneously setting Phoenix aflame. Glen thrusts the sword through the Mid-Childan circle, which begins to gather four red motes of energy. The energies coalescence and gather, and upon the utterance of the phrase "Cosmic Nova, Ignite!", sends them forward. The four lights converge into one that slams into the target full force. [Roughly on par with 2 Divine Busters to the gut.]

Defense Spells:
Panzergeist: Phoenix's auto-guard. Powerful but susceptible to bombardment attacks. As such, Glen has...
Round shield: Which, for him, is better against bombardment but worse against some others.
Knight Armor: Glen's armor. Is fire elemental.
Armor Burst: Glen ignites his armor and causes it to explode, pushing enemies backward and damaging them. Effective, yet requires him to reform his Knight Armor.

Other Spells:
Blazing Wings: Glen's flight spell. Two wings of fire sprout of his back.
Flash Move: No explanation. Rapid-movement spell.
Fire Lash: Glen's bind spell. Fire whips from his fingertips and binds his opponent. A second version of this, Fire Lash EX, binds his opponent without him having to hold the lashes.

Combination Spells:
Plasma Firebolt: {Fate} A simple combination spell developed on the fly when Fate and Glen needed a quick boost in spellpower. Fate summons up some Plasma Lancers, and Glen infuses them with some of his own magic, creating shocking flaming burst sphere. Each sphere is about as powerful as 3 Plasma Lancers.

Akashic Buster: {Franz} Glen forms a Midchildan circle in front of him and concentrates fire energy through it. The fire morphs into a birdlike shape. When this happens, Franz infuses lightning into it, which propels it forward and holds its shape. Soon after, Glen charges through the circle and merges with the fire/lightning bird. The following attack tends to pierce his opponent.

Rampage Ghost: Spiral Shift: {Emili} Glen's most powerful spell. He and Emili both unload 3 cartridges in their devices. Glen summons Cosmic Nova while Emili casts Diamond Dust. The spells merge, forming a burst of fire/ice energy. The Cosmic Nova replicates, splitting into eight spheres of energy. These energy spheres are set to target someone, then fly forward. As they fly, Glen and Emily call out "Rampage Ghost!" Upon this, the Diamond Dust begins to take the shape of flying ghosts. On the unison phrase "Spiral... SHIFT!" the eight spheres begin to twist rapidly around each other. They form a spiral shortly before slamming home into their opponent, usually destroying them utterly. [Note: This spell is very powerful. It is on bar with Nanoha's Starlight Breaker at the least.]

Berserker State Spells:
{When Glen enters the Berserker state and Id comes out, his personality changes. This new personality is reflected in his spells.}
{Also, during the Berserker State, Glen is completely covered in fire, and Phoenix attaches itself to his armor at the wrist.}

"This is a taste of my fury! Inferno Blade!" Id sheaths the Phoenix in a fire blade similar to Zephyr Sword but twice as hot.

"My rage fuels my speed! Demon Wings! Id forms two more wings on his back, next to the Blazing Wings. He becomes extremely fast and leaves firey contrails constantly.

"You cannot escape my hatred! Meteor Storm!" Twelve spheres of fire form and shoot toward Id's opponents. Before striking their opponent, they arc upward then come down, hence the name.

"Certain kill! My final Revenge! Condemn Blaze!" Id's most powerful spell. He uses Fire Lash EX to bind his opponent, then gathers all of his magical energy into Phoenix. The result is a blade that also leaves contrails as Id streaks across the sky and impacts head-on the opponent. Behind him, the resulting power coming from Phoenix is enough to detonate gadget drones.

Nicely done. The spells are direct and effective.
Though that spell list is a long shot from being long. You should take a look at Satty's OC's whom all of which have LONG spell lists.

Here is another episode of "My name is Tais". Fairly lousy attempt on writing from me as usual so don't get your hopes up. A rather silly(and stupid) way of explaining why he wasn't around during the 9-12 event.

As I am logging this right now, Tais is currently recovering in the warship's medical wing from his latest ordeal. As usual, he managed to get into trouble except this time, he is truly the unlucky victim. If not for the super durablility and protections of the EVA device, he would never have survive this accident.

Personally, I just think that he is simply too stupid to know he should have died. Anyway, It was just 2 days before the Public press conference (9-12 event) when Tais was summoned to test a new wizard pack for the EVA. Reporting to the lab, we met up with Dr. Ritsuko who is to brief us on the testing procedures.

Ritsuko: Tais, Yui, I'll keep this short. Today you're going to test a new wizard pack for the EVA Armour, which is basically a flight system.
Yui: Flight system? Does that mean we're going to fly?
Ritsuko: Yes. We have finally completed the Aero Dancer wizard pack with the data we obtained after that exhibition fight with Captain Takamichi. Although using the retro rocket system as a flight tool was an interesting idea, I'm sure you've notice it wasn't efficient at all.
Yui: Efficient? We're like a pig on an ice skating ring. It was so hard to control...
Tais: :hee:
Ritsuko: Anyway, we'll be testing the pack in EVA mode 2, so activate it without the rest of the subsystems and mount the pack.
Tais: Yes ma'am.

After the pack was mounted to the armour, a series of integration and diagnostic tests were performed. Needless to say, all the tests checked out fine and we proceeded outside the lab where Director Tsuzuki was waiting for us. Getting closer, we saw that he was standing in front of some weird object with a slap mark on his cheek. Next to him, surprisingly is Seles, who seemed to curious to the happenings and slightly annoyed at the director's wandering hands I suspect.

Nonetheless, I should at least try to talk the director against using it. However, my hopes were quickly dashed.

Ritsuko: Yes. As we need to conduct quite a few tests today, a temporary phantom cartridge system was installed on the pack and we need Tais to conserve his own power to keep mode 2 active. The launcher would save time and power from the process of taking off.

Tsuzuki: Yup. Get ready as we're going to launch you in 30 seconds. For your information, the pack will automatically activate after you pass FL360 into the air. We will conduct flight tests after that so stay in contact.

It was horrible. For the first launch, we managed to get into the air... and promptly crashed face first into the concrete not 6 feet from where we started when gravity asserted its pull on us. While the rest of the CSDB just stood there and look at us with a dumbfound expression on their faces, Seles, that traitor, was rolling on the ground, laughing her ass off. I still regret mailing her back to the CSDB instead of off planet when we first met her.

This time was alot better as we managed to get to an altitude of about FL150, but the landing is still rather problematic. Since we did not get to the required altitude, we had to land and try again. Although gliding down too fast, and belly flopping across the surface of the lake before skidding around 100 meters, face first across the ground and stopping just before the launcher and calling that a landing is kinda stretching it. I wish Director Tsuzuki had called some of the Air mages to help out. They could have prevented this from happening.

Although Tais climbed back into the launcher with great reluctance, I can't say I blamed him one bit. I can't began to imagine what will happen to us this time. The first was embarrassing, the second was painful. I really hope this time its not fatal but it seems like someone really hates us. Well either that or I was a rather vicious virus in my previous incarnation and this is karma. A few short seconds later as I heard Director Tsuzuki give the order to red-line the launcher system. With a massive burst of acceleration, we were "shot" into the clear blue sky.

It seems like my fears were well founded. We managed to get to FL360 easily but the Aero dancer pack then, malfunction rather spectacularly. No, it did not explode in a massive array of fireworks in the declaration of the CSDB's superiority over other scientists although I wish it happened instead as it is at least more believable than the actual event. To keep it simple, the Aero dancer pack more or less became a extremely powerful booster rocket, and with zero maneuverability nor anyway to stop or ditch the pack, we managed to reach orbit rather quickly.

That was not the worst part. The fact that there is a TSAB XV class warship in our path and we literally put a Tais shaped dent into its armour plating when we crashed into it is. Tais had blacked out long before we even reached orbit so I don't think he felt anything upon impact. After we have been cut out from that section of armour plating, the ship had to go back into dock for minor repairs and replacement of that section of hull.

I did try to apologize to the captain for the accident and to convey our thanks to him but it seems that he wasn't around. The medic taking care of Tais informed me that the admiral had teleported down to the Saint Church and will be visiting until the ship is fully repaired. Although it was just a rumor, it seems that the admiral had said that he rather be accused of committing adultery than stay close to "that disaster in human skin", which prompted alot of visits from the crew members during their breaks. Too bad Tais isn't wake to meet with them.

As usual, he managed to get into trouble except this time, he is truly the unlucky victim. If not for the super durablility and protections of the EVA device, he would never have survive this accident.

Anyway, It was just 2 days before the Public press conference (9-12 event) when Tais was summoned to test a new wizard pack for the EVA. Reporting to the lab, we met up with Dr. Ritsuko who is to brief us on the testing procedures.

Next to him, surprisingly is Seles, who seemed to curious to the happenings and slightly annoyed at the director's wandering hands I suspect.

They did find a way to counter them later though in the form of a disruptor that targets the “technobabble pathways linking individual replicator cells” effectively causing the things to fall apart when hit, but of course the damn bugger being adaptable little shits started figuring out how to resist it after awhile so they had to start changing it’s operating parameters and such. Eventually they lured all the buggers into the Milky Way, turned on ever Stargate in the galaxy and fired an ancient super weapon through them that mimicked the disruption effect on a galactic scale and wiped the little shits out for good, well sorta; they came back in the spin-off kinda.

As I am logging this right now, Tais is currently recovering in the warship's medical wing from his latest ordeal. As usual, he managed to get into trouble except this time, he is truly the unlucky victim. If not for the super durablility and protections of the EVA device, he would never have survive this accident.

Personally, I just think that he is simply too stupid to know he should have died. Anyway, It was just 2 days before the Public press conference (9-12 event) when Tais was summoned to test a new wizard pack for the EVA. Reporting to the lab, we met up with Dr. Ritsuko who is to brief us on the testing procedures.

Ritsuko: Tais, Yui, I'll keep this short. Today you're going to test a new wizard pack for the EVA Armour, which is basically a flight system.
Yui: Flight system? Does that mean we're going to fly?
Ritsuko: Yes. We have finally completed the Aero Dancer wizard pack with the data we obtained after that exhibition fight with Captain Takamichi. Although using the retro rocket system as a flight tool was an interesting idea, I'm sure you've notice it wasn't efficient at all.
Yui: Efficient? We're like a pig on an ice skating ring. It was so hard to control...
Tais: :hee:
Ritsuko: Anyway, we'll be testing the pack in EVA mode 2, so activate it without the rest of the subsystems and mount the pack.
Tais: Yes ma'am.

After the pack was mounted to the armour, a series of integration and diagnostic tests were performed. Needless to say, all the tests checked out fine and we proceeded outside the lab where Director Tsuzuki was waiting for us. Getting closer, we saw that he was standing in front of some weird object with a slap mark on his cheek. Next to him, surprisingly is Seles, who seemed to curious to the happenings and slightly annoyed at the director's wandering hands I suspect.

Tsuzuki: Good afternoon everyone.
Tais: Err... afternoon director. I wonder what he done to get slapped...
Tsuzuki: Oh nothing much. I just fondled Seles here while waiting for you all. (pats Seles's ass while talking)

Tsuzuki: (Groan) Anyway, time is wasting. Tais, please climb up into the launcher behind me and step onto the launching pads found there.

A launcher? It looks suspiciously like a giant, old style linear rail cannon to me. Judging from the look on the director's face, I have this sinking suspicion that it is what I think it is. Nonetheless, I should at least try to talk the director against using it. However, my hopes were quickly dashed.

Yui: Director, why do we even need the launcher? Can't we take off from the ground here?
Tsuzuki: We could but that would be wasting the power stored in the pack itself.
Yui: The pack has its own power supply?
Ritsuko: Yes. As we need to conduct quite a few tests today, a temporary phantom cartridge system was installed on the pack and we need Tais to conserve his own power to keep mode 2 active. The launcher would save time and power from the process of taking off.
Tais: Ah! Ok. (climbs up and steps on the pads) Is this ok?
Tsuzuki: Yup. Get ready as we're going to launch you in 30 seconds. For your information, the pack will automatically activate after you pass FL360 into the air. We will conduct flight tests after that so stay in contact.
Tais: FL360?
Yui: 36,000ft. Don't worry about it. I'll handle that.
Tsuzuki: (To the rest) Clear the launch area! Set acceleration boost at 10%! Firing in 5 seconds.
Seles: Have a good flight master, see you later.

It was horrible. For the first launch, we managed to get into the air... and promptly crashed face first into the concrete not 6 feet from where we started when gravity asserted its pull on us. While the rest of the CSDB just stood there and look at us with a dumbfound expression on their faces, Seles, that traitor, was rolling on the ground, laughing her ass off. I still regret mailing her back to the CSDB instead of off planet when we first met her.

Tsuzuki: Hey Tais, how long are you planning on laying there? Get back onto the launcher, we're going to try with a bit more power this time.
Tais: Urgh...
Tsuzuki: Hurry up!

(Tais climbs back onto the launcher with slight reluctance)

Tsuzuki: Clear the launch area! Set acceleration boost to 50% this time! Firing in 5. 4. 3. 2. 1!

This time was alot better as we managed to get to an altitude of about FL150, but the landing is still rather problematic. Since we did not get to the required altitude, we had to land and try again. Although gliding down too fast, and belly flopping across the surface of the lake before skidding around 100 meters, face first across the ground and stopping just before the launcher and calling that a landing is kinda stretching it. I wish Director Tsuzuki had called some of the Air mages to help out. They could have prevented this from happening.

Tsuzuki: Great landing Tais, that was very impressive. Although try not to do that again. you could have wreaked the Aero Dancer wizard pack.

Although Tais climbed back into the launcher with great reluctance, I can't say I blamed him one bit. I can't began to imagine what will happen to us this time. The first was embarrassing, the second was painful. I really hope this time its not fatal but it seems like someone really hates us. Well either that or I was a rather vicious virus in my previous incarnation and this is karma. A few short seconds later as I heard Director Tsuzuki give the order to red-line the launcher system. With a massive burst of acceleration, we were "shot" into the clear blue sky.

It seems like my fears were well founded. We managed to get to FL360 easily but the Aero dancer pack then, malfunction rather spectacularly. No, it did not explode in a massive array of fireworks in the declaration of the CSDB's superiority over other scientists although I wish it happened instead as it is at least more believable than the actual event. To keep it simple, the Aero dancer pack more or less became a extremely powerful booster rocket, and with zero maneuverability nor anyway to stop or ditch the pack, we managed to reach orbit rather quickly.

That was not the worst part. The fact that there is a TSAB XV class warship in our path and we literally put a Tais shaped dent into its armour plating when we crashed into it is. Tais had blacked out long before we even reached orbit so I don't think he felt anything upon impact. After we have been cut out from that section of armour plating, the ship had to go back into dock for minor repairs and replacement of that section of hull.

I did try to apologize to the captain for the accident and to convey our thanks to him but it seems that he wasn't around. The medic taking care of Tais informed me that the admiral had teleported down to the Saint Church and will be visiting until the ship is fully repaired. Although it was just a rumor, it seems that the admiral had said that he rather be accused of committing adultery than stay close to "that disaster in human skin", which prompted alot of visits from the crew members during their breaks. Too bad Tais isn't wake to meet with them.

TSAB Profile: Second-in-Command of the Order of Freelance Mages, Glen is one of the youngest unit's commanders; at 25, he's second only to Emili Naïlo in being the youngest. In his eleven years of service to the OFM, he has experienced the full gamut of battles that they go through, and typically operates as the commander of the OFM's Air Wing (whilst Erick leads the Ground Force). A capable Magic Knight, there is one tick about him that sets him apart from his contemporaries: His fire magic, and an odd distortion in his Linker Core that manifests the "Berserk State".

Personality:
- Alignment: Chaotic Good

Of the four leading OFM mages, Glen is considered the "terse, unfriendly, taciturn, straight man." He's the one who has to talk the other three "less thinking" leaders from doing something insane. He's the one who gives Franz most of his Paperwork (like Ivanovich, he believes in full use of Unlimited Paper Works), helps Erick come up with plans that follow the KISS principle (aka Keep It Simple, Stupid) without being too simple (Erick prefers the "run in and gun 'em all down" strategy; Franz prefers victory through, quote: "Determination, Hotblood, Courage, and the power of the True Spirit of Men!"). He trains Franz on a semi-regular basis. Oh, and he also has a girlfriend: Emili Naïlo.

In essence, he's the Fuyutsuki to the Gendo (if Gendo were hotblooded), the Rossiu to the Simon, the Kyon to the Haruhi, the master to the apprentice. In his own mind, he's also the most normal one (though insanity is probably a requirement to get into the OFM).

Contrary to popular belief though, Glen is not really an unfriendly guy; rather, he's simply withdrawn. Yes, he's blunt, but he prefers the straight and narrow approach when it comes to dealing with people (including Franz... especially Franz). Once you get to know him, he's actually not a real bad guy. Past the intimidation is just your average Magic Knight.

Of course, getting that close to him is a problem. Glen has an introverted attitude in part from how he grew up and in part from his... Berserk State (more on that later). It takes some time and effort, and only a few people have managed to get close to him. Emili obviously is close to him, and Erick has been close to him ever since he was 14, having almost raised Glen from then on. As for the established OCs and Aces, the only ones really close to him are Kha and Fate. The former is because he and Fate are an "item". The latter is because at some point during MC073 Glen found himself torn between Fate and Emili. "Damn emotions..."

History:
Glen was born on Soto eight years before the Subjugation War. As a child, he possessed no special or exemplary skills in anything, and his parents were consigned to letting him grow up into another normal kid.

During the war, however, that was shot out the window. His father was called back into active duty and subsequently killed, and Erusian soldiers kidnapped his mother, ultimately using her as bait in a failed "Hostage Negotiation". Orphaned, the TSAB rescued him (and countless other orphans) and placed them in a shelter until they began to pull out. Less than six hours after leaving his homeworld, 8-year old Glen saw as Sotoa was nuked 3 thousand times over. His homeworld, destroyed by his own race's hands, was a scar that to this day has never left him.

The TSAB conducted some tests on the orphans that made it offworld, including Glen. They found that 1% of them had stable-enough Linker Cores to utilize magic, and took this 1% to another world (codenamed "Outer Heaven"), and began to raise them while training them in Project ATX - Alternative Type X Magic. This magic style was supposed to utilize Ancient Belkan Magic and Devices with Midchildan Magic mixed in. This project would eventually die out in favor of the Neo-Belkan project, but for six years Glen and 39 other orphans would learn this type of magic.

Shortly before his 14th birthday, during a training session, a 35 year old Erick von Long visited the ATX facilities on Outer Heaven (the project wasn't exactly secret; this project and the forerunner of Neo-Belkan magic were at odds). He was impressed by Glen's skill at such a young age at had him taken out of the project (by this point, Erick had some influence) and put into the Order of Freelance Mages. When he joined, Erick took a necklace and put it around Glen's neck in a flash (similar to how Kamina put the Core Drill on Simon's).

"Well, kid," he said. "This'n here is called Phoenix. Treat 'er well, and she'll do ya right."

Erick received Phoenix from a retired TSAB mage. He had been holding on to it, and since he couldn't use it, decided to give it to Glen, who at the time of their meeting was practicing the Belkan-style of Magic. Phoenix and Glen's magic mingled well together, and soon after Glen started to develop his affinity for Fire-based magic.

This is when the problems started.

The problem was the Berserk State; a mental imbalance in Glen's mind that also affected his Linker Core. Triggered by a swell of negative emotion from him (such as sadness or anger), the Berserk State pushed Glen's conscious mind down and brought out a second personality known as "Id". This ruthless, vengeful personality would stop at nothing to destroy whatever had caused this emotion, ignoring the pain of his body. The initial trigger of the Berserk State happened on the same planet that would eventually be the death of the former OFM XO. A firefight that killed another young boy Glen had become friends with unleashed the Berserk State, and in the ensuing chaos Glen cut a swath through their opponents with nothing short of a blazing fire.

Glen was hospitalized for two weeks after this, having burn marks and mana depletion. In order to prevent something like this from happening again, Erick had Glen placed under hypnosis therapy to rid himself of "Id" and keep him stable until a more permanent solution could be found. This took time and effort: Erick went to non-TSAB sources - sources that could get him court-martialed - if his superiors found that he was keeping a mentally unstable person in the OFM.

At any rate, Glen calmed down for many years, eventually becoming XO of the OFM and taking on Franz as an apprentice. Around MC069, his mental instability began to return, and Erick needed to find a more permanent solution. He went to longtime friend/rival Aurion, and together the two worked on installing a special limiter in Phoenix that would not stop, but limit, the outbursts of "Id". Only strong emotional trauma could bring Id out, so long as Glen had Phoenix with him. As such, after the Limiter was placed, Glen was ordered never to take it off.

Shortly after meeting the Aces and the Wolkenritter, Glen and a new recruit named Emili Naïlo began to see each other. Though his personality was mostly the same, there were subtle changes in his attitude, especially around her. She helped stabilize him further, and over the course of 4 years the two have formed a very close relationship. It's not exactly love - both have a very difficult time with the concept - but it's more than friends, not quite lovers.

As for the other Aces, Glen has slowly developed a small friendship with them, though "polite acquaintance" may be more correct. Except when it comes to Fate T. Harlown and Kha der Kleriker. Peculiarly, Glen holds Fate in especially high regard, insofar as to start falling for her, and thus by proxy he and Kha have a small rivalry.

Over the course of his interactions with the Aces and Wolkenritter, he and Signum have reached a mutual respect and comraderie with each other. Both spar when they can, sharpening their skills for when it's needed. Signum is happy to teach someone her old Belkan style, which the ATX project used.

The last few years have been interesting for him. For some reason or another, Glen can do "Combination Magic"; a term he came up with simply because he can't come up with anything else. Perhaps due to the odd nature of his fire affinity (Erick thinks that, deep down, Glen has a fire affinity because of watching the nukes go off on Sotoa), he can mix his and someone else's magic spells together, and together the two can use a more powerful attack. To date, there's only three people he's been able to do this with: Emili is one and the most powerful Combination Spell (and maybe the most powerful spell in the OFM), called Rampage Ghost: Spiral Shift. Next would be Franz, his apprentice; Franz's lightning is necessary, oddly, to hold the fire together for their Akashic Buster spell. Finally, during a deployment, Glen and Fate did an impromptu combination spell, Plasma Firebolt.

The Id State still exists within him as well. Anytime Emili is heavily injured, Id manifests and takes him over, and the Berserk State is reached. In one case, Glen entered the state when Fate was heavily injured, suggesting perhaps she's closer to him then he really wants to admit.

Now, as Erick looks at the future of the OFM, Glen... can only sigh and plant a palm to his face. "Yare, yare..."

Device:
Glen's Device is a cartridge-loader equipped longsword named Phoenix. It looks like an average longsword, with a silver hilt and the engraving on a phoenix going down both sides. Cartridges are loaded into the pommel of the sword - up to 3 at a time. The Phoenix, as noted earlier, was given to him by Erick when he joined the OFM, as Glen at the time had used no other device than the practice Devices used in Project ATX.

Phoenix may have a connection to Laevantein. Signum seems familiar with the Phoenix yet has said nothing, and their cartridges look similar as well.

Phoenix speaks with a light female's voice, and refers to Glen as "Komponist" (Composer). Phoenix's spell trigger is "Ignite!"

Knight Armor: Instead of a Barrier Jacket, Glen wears a set of Knight Armor that resembles a star's flames. (See above image)

Attack Spells:
Zephyr Sword: A simple enhancement spell. Glen sheathes the Phoenix in fire. [Shiden Issen] [And Zephyr Sword, obviously]
- Blistering Flourish: The sword's flames flare up brightly, temporarily blinding anyone staring at it. [N/A]
- Burning Brand, Zephyr Striker: If Glen pumps more magic into the Zephyr Sword, it will extend to over five feet from the sword's tip. [As Shiden Issen, but longer.]

Fire Missile: Glen points Phoenix at a target and causes two red bolts to form parallel to the blade, which he then "fires" at his opponent. [2 Divine Shooters] [Caloric Missile]

Cosmic Nova: Glen's final attack in non-Berserk form, and when not using combination attacks. By expending all 3 cartridges in Phoenix, Glen forms a Belkan circle under him and a Mid-Childan circle in front of him whilst simultaneously setting Phoenix aflame. Glen thrusts the sword through the Mid-Childan circle, which begins to gather four red motes of energy. The energies coalescence and gather, and upon the utterance of the phrase "Cosmic Nova, Ignite!", sends them forward. The four lights converge into one that slams into the target full force. [Roughly on par with 2 Divine Busters to the gut.]

Defense Spells:
Panzergeist: Phoenix's auto-guard. Powerful but susceptible to bombardment attacks. As such, Glen has...
Round shield: Which, for him, is better against bombardment but worse against some others.
Knight Armor: Glen's armor. Is fire elemental.
Armor Burst: Glen ignites his armor and causes it to explode, pushing enemies backward and damaging them. Effective, yet requires him to reform his Knight Armor.

Other Spells:
Blazing Wings: Glen's flight spell. Two wings of fire sprout of his back.
Flash Move: No explanation. Rapid-movement spell.
Fire Lash: Glen's bind spell. Fire whips from his fingertips and binds his opponent. A second version of this, Fire Lash EX, binds his opponent without him having to hold the lashes.

Combination Spells:
Plasma Firebolt: {Fate} A simple combination spell developed on the fly when Fate and Glen needed a quick boost in spellpower. Fate summons up some Plasma Lancers, and Glen infuses them with some of his own magic, creating shocking flaming burst sphere. Each sphere is about as powerful as 3 Plasma Lancers.

Akashic Buster: {Franz} Glen forms a Midchildan circle in front of him and concentrates fire energy through it. The fire morphs into a birdlike shape. When this happens, Franz infuses lightning into it, which propels it forward and holds its shape. Soon after, Glen charges through the circle and merges with the fire/lightning bird. The following attack tends to pierce his opponent.

Rampage Ghost: Spiral Shift: {Emili} Glen's most powerful spell. He and Emili both unload 3 cartridges in their devices. Glen summons Cosmic Nova while Emili casts Diamond Dust. The spells merge, forming a burst of fire/ice energy. The Cosmic Nova replicates, splitting into eight spheres of energy. These energy spheres are set to target someone, then fly forward. As they fly, Glen and Emily call out "Rampage Ghost!" Upon this, the Diamond Dust begins to take the shape of flying ghosts. On the unison phrase "Spiral... SHIFT!" the eight spheres begin to twist rapidly around each other. They form a spiral shortly before slamming home into their opponent, usually destroying them utterly. [Note: This spell is very powerful. It is on bar with Nanoha's Starlight Breaker at the least.]

Berserker State Spells:
{When Glen enters the Berserker state and Id comes out, his personality changes. This new personality is reflected in his spells.}
{Also, during the Berserker State, Glen is completely covered in fire, and Phoenix attaches itself to his armor at the wrist.}

"This is a taste of my fury! Inferno Blade!" Id sheaths the Phoenix in a fire blade similar to Zephyr Sword but twice as hot.

"My rage fuels my speed! Demon Wings! Id forms two more wings on his back, next to the Blazing Wings. He becomes extremely fast and leaves firey contrails constantly.

"You cannot escape my hatred! Meteor Storm!" Twelve spheres of fire form and shoot toward Id's opponents. Before striking their opponent, they arc upward then come down, hence the name.

"Certain kill! My final Revenge! Condemn Blaze!" Id's most powerful spell. He uses Fire Lash EX to bind his opponent, then gathers all of his magical energy into Phoenix. The result is a blade that also leaves contrails as Id streaks across the sky and impacts head-on the opponent. Behind him, the resulting power coming from Phoenix is enough to detonate gadget drones.

You said Cosmic Nova is equiv to 2 divine busters to the gut. I'm going to hope you mean the original DB's not augmented by cartridges... He's AA ranked yet he puts out the equiv of 2 DB's (AAA/AAA+ each) with the help of three cartidges? When Nanoha is using 2-3 cartidges per (normal)DB? Even with the non-augmented DB's that may still be too high for my tastes. Explanations please.

The SLB level combo attack raised an eyebrow from me as well. Although I'm not as worried about that one. Which SLB? Normal, A's or Strikers? If it's Strikers you should already know my response...

I assume that's there's drawbacks to the power boost that he get's from being in berserker mode (whether he want's to be that way or not). Actually there had better be drawbacks....

He thinks faster and reacts faster, and can charge up his attacks a bit faster, since I have a theory that hot blood makes magic flow faster. At the end of the day though, the disadvantages still don't quite outwiegh the benefits - Giga Drill Breaker is powerful, but when you can defeat it with Barrier Burst...There's actually another Clannad reference in Franz's bio; his next door neighbours are very muchly based off Akio and Sanae.

Sad but true. *sighs* I also read a fair bit of W.E.B. Griffin, David Weber and John Ringo. Ringo especially has a knack for interactions - I recommend the "March" series of books he co-wrote with Weber.

As I am logging this right now, Tais is currently recovering in the warship's medical wing from his latest ordeal. As usual, he managed to get into trouble except this time, he is truly the unlucky victim. If not for the super durablility and protections of the EVA device, he would never have survive this accident.

Personally, I just think that he is simply too stupid to know he should have died. Anyway, It was just 2 days before the Public press conference (9-12 event) when Tais was summoned to test a new wizard pack for the EVA. Reporting to the lab, we met up with Dr. Ritsuko who is to brief us on the testing procedures.

Ritsuko: Tais, Yui, I'll keep this short. Today you're going to test a new wizard pack for the EVA Armour, which is basically a flight system.
Yui: Flight system? Does that mean we're going to fly?
Ritsuko: Yes. We have finally completed the Aero Dancer wizard pack with the data we obtained after that exhibition fight with Captain Takamichi. Although using the retro rocket system as a flight tool was an interesting idea, I'm sure you've notice it wasn't efficient at all.
Yui: Efficient? We're like a pig on an ice skating ring. It was so hard to control...
Tais: :hee:
Ritsuko: Anyway, we'll be testing the pack in EVA mode 2, so activate it without the rest of the subsystems and mount the pack.
Tais: Yes ma'am.

After the pack was mounted to the armour, a series of integration and diagnostic tests were performed. Needless to say, all the tests checked out fine and we proceeded outside the lab where Director Tsuzuki was waiting for us. Getting closer, we saw that he was standing in front of some weird object with a slap mark on his cheek. Next to him, surprisingly is Seles, who seemed to curious to the happenings and slightly annoyed at the director's wandering hands I suspect.

Tsuzuki: Good afternoon everyone.
Tais: Err... afternoon director. I wonder what he done to get slapped...
Tsuzuki: Oh nothing much. I just fondled Seles here while waiting for you all. (pats Seles's ass while talking)
Seles: Hentai! (kicks Tsuzuki's ...bits)
Rest:
Tsuzuki: (Groan) Anyway, time is wasting. Tais, please climb up into the launcher behind me and step onto the launching pads found there.

A launcher? It looks suspiciously like a giant, old style linear rail cannon to me. Judging from the look on the director's face, I have this sinking suspicion that it is what I think it is. Nonetheless, I should at least try to talk the director against using it. However, my hopes were quickly dashed.

Yui: Director, why do we even need the launcher? Can't we take off from the ground here?
Tsuzuki: We could but that would be wasting the power stored in the pack itself.
Yui: The pack has its own power supply?
Ritsuko: Yes. As we need to conduct quite a few tests today, a temporary phantom cartridge system was installed on the pack and we need Tais to conserve his own power to keep mode 2 active. The launcher would save time and power from the process of taking off.
Tais: Ah! Ok. (climbs up and steps on the pads) Is this ok?
Tsuzuki: Yup. Get ready as we're going to launch you in 30 seconds. For your information, the pack will automatically activate after you pass FL360 into the air. We will conduct flight tests after that so stay in contact.
Tais: FL360?
Yui: 36,000ft. Don't worry about it. I'll handle that.
Tsuzuki: (To the rest) Clear the launch area! Set acceleration boost at 10%! Firing in 5 seconds.
Seles: Have a good flight master, see you later.

It was horrible. For the first launch, we managed to get into the air... and promptly crashed face first into the concrete not 6 feet from where we started when gravity asserted its pull on us. While the rest of the CSDB just stood there and look at us with a dumbfound expression on their faces, Seles, that traitor, was rolling on the ground, laughing her ass off. I still regret mailing her back to the CSDB instead of off planet when we first met her.

Tsuzuki: Hey Tais, how long are you planning on laying there? Get back onto the launcher, we're going to try with a bit more power this time.
Tais: Urgh...
Tsuzuki: Hurry up!

(Tais climbs back onto the launcher with slight reluctance)

Tsuzuki: Clear the launch area! Set acceleration boost to 50% this time! Firing in 5. 4. 3. 2. 1!

This time was alot better as we managed to get to an altitude of about FL150, but the landing is still rather problematic. Since we did not get to the required altitude, we had to land and try again. Although gliding down too fast, and belly flopping across the surface of the lake before skidding around 100 meters, face first across the ground and stopping just before the launcher and calling that a landing is kinda stretching it. I wish Director Tsuzuki had called some of the Air mages to help out. They could have prevented this from happening.

Tsuzuki: Great landing Tais, that was very impressive. Although try not to do that again. you could have wreaked the Aero Dancer wizard pack.
Seles: Master you were great! BWAHAHAHA!!!

(Tais groans in pain)

Tais: Why me...
Tsuzuki: Get up Tais, I guarantee that this time we will not fail to get you up there.
Ritsuko: Maybe we should try another time Director. I don't think Tais...
Tsuzuki: Nonsence. The E.V.A can take more punishment than that and Tais is rather durable. I'm sure that he can handle it. After all he managed to fare fairly well against Captain Takamichi before. This should be nothing compared to THAT.
Tais: ......
Yui: ......

Although Tais climbed back into the launcher with great reluctance, I can't say I blamed him one bit. I can't began to imagine what will happen to us this time. The first was embarrassing, the second was painful. I really hope this time its not fatal but it seems like someone really hates us. Well either that or I was a rather vicious virus in my previous incarnation and this is karma. A few short seconds later as I heard Director Tsuzuki give the order to red-line the launcher system. With a massive burst of acceleration, we were "shot" into the clear blue sky.

It seems like my fears were well founded. We managed to get to FL360 easily but the Aero dancer pack then, malfunction rather spectacularly. No, it did not explode in a massive array of fireworks in the declaration of the CSDB's superiority over other scientists although I wish it happened instead as it is at least more believable than the actual event. To keep it simple, the Aero dancer pack more or less became a extremely powerful booster rocket, and with zero maneuverability nor anyway to stop or ditch the pack, we managed to reach orbit rather quickly.

That was not the worst part. The fact that there is a TSAB XV class warship in our path and we literally put a Tais shaped dent into its armour plating when we crashed into it is. Tais had blacked out long before we even reached orbit so I don't think he felt anything upon impact. After we have been cut out from that section of armour plating, the ship had to go back into dock for minor repairs and replacement of that section of hull.

I did try to apologize to the captain for the accident and to convey our thanks to him but it seems that he wasn't around. The medic taking care of Tais informed me that the admiral had teleported down to the Saint Church and will be visiting until the ship is fully repaired. Although it was just a rumor, it seems that the admiral had said that he rather be accused of committing adultery than stay close to "that disaster in human skin", which prompted alot of visits from the crew members during their breaks. Too bad Tais isn't wake to meet with them.

Although I'm not sure if he could actually breathe at 36k feet.... Also I'm fairly certain that the amount of force needed to actually dent the armour plating would have been fatal.... Not to mention that he would have been incinereated upon re-entry to the atmosphere.....

Want to change it so the ship was coming down to the planet for maintainence/repairs/ some other random reason?
