Huh, I was thinking this might be a live action since the tease last month.
Although I do appreciate this turn out to be an anime, I am going to worry about if the anime can do the manga justice. Also, here are the links to the official site and collab video. https://blue-period.jp/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vELh3Q6BBx4 |

That one of the characters dressing like he does and it is accepted in that high school points towards the high school that they are in is a lot more liberal than the norm in Japan. There is a trend in the major cities in Japan that allow the students to be who they are instead of being pigeon-holed. |

Episode 2:
There are some changes in the anime adaptation. There's quite a fair bit that is snipped off. That includes the more detailed introduction to drawing, background about art schools, etc. which were more to introduce readers who are not familiar to drawing and art in Japan. The anime adaptation has also done some rearrangement of the story flow compared to the manga. The end of the episode was brought forward from a later chapter. It does work because it is still early in series. |

Episode 3:
No comment about the developments in this episode since only English subtitled Episode 1 has been released by Netflix. There are a few famous paintings showcased in this episode. From the looks of it, it appears that they used digital photos of those paintings and adjusted them to fit in the show. Example of pieces shown - Vermeer's The Milkmaid (http://www.essentialvermeer.com/cata...aid.html#top); and Degas' The Dance Class (https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/438817). EDIT: My bad. The Vermeer stated above is wrong. It should be "Young Woman With A Water Pitcher" (http://www.essentialvermeer.com/cata...tcher.html#top) Last edited by leongsh; 2021-10-10 at 04:26. |

I think a lot of people can probably relate to working hard both socially and education-wise because that's what it takes to get by in society and fulfill people's expectations, but that comes off more clinical than, say, following your passion even if that can seem to be a far-off dream with no real promise of reward...especially in something as complex as art. But sometimes you just get bit by that art bug, y'know .
I have to admit Yuka is a character that it took a while for me to get when reading the manga. A crossdresser? Trans girl? That scene of Yatora using "Ryuji" came off like he was deadnaming Yuka, although it's a little more complicated than that. Whatever the case, Yuka paints a striking figure and has a contentious relationship with Yatora (and they apparently have each other's numbers/Line ID's, so they seem to be connected somehow), and Yumiri Hanamori has experience voicing both male and female characters so she's the perfect choice to play someone who blurs gender lines . You want to paint your girlfriend's boobs? Well then you better paint them well, thoroughly, and with the proper buoyancy . Fumi Hirano is, like, the best choice to voice this serene and worldly art teacher who knows talent when she sees it and knows the right things to say. And of course the character with her eyes closed the whole time makes an impact whenever you actually get to see her eyes . Sometimes in art it's all about what you see, how you see it, and conveying that in art form. And it can be all the more gratifying to see that recognized and for people, let alone your buddies, to acknowledge and see your work for what it is . Yatora is joining the art club! Hope he survives the experience .

That was a decent start. I was genuinely surprised the MC's friends didn't mock him when they saw his painting and realized what he was trying to express. Especially with what glasses guy said to him earlier, and Yuka accusing the MC of being a social smoker.
The art teacher is extremely nice, and knows how to joke to boot. Really cool lady.

The game Lost Judgment has outside advisors (which allows for the player to advise several clubs) but I don't know if that's an actual thing.

Yes, sometimes teachers advise multiple clubs. Seen it happen for sure.
I think certain clubs like art and drama tend to have advisors who actually teach it - ones who are passionate/skilled about the theme. A lot of clubs just have random advisors who get assigned to them though. Even in Chihayafuru, while Mizusawa just got a random sensei Fujisawa has Sakurazawa-sensei, who's basically a pro karuta coach (it's a power school, true). If there's a teacher there who's really into a theme, it's only natural that they'll volunteer to work with that club.
