Oh, was reading vol 19 today. It seems some of you got confused by the machine translation, but in the chapter where he arrives at the Doldia village and hears that his daughter is the messiah, what he thinks is something like.

"The Messiah huh? I guess I really should teach her kung fu or something? It's Isshi Souden."

There's nothing about secret arts or anything. It's just a mistranslation. The whole thing is a reference to Hokuto no Ken, where the Messiah/Saviour of the End of the Century World (Kenshirou) is a man who practices the legendary kung fu "Hokuto Shinken (North Dipper God Fist)".

Hokuto Shinken is passed down in an isshi souden style. Isshi Souden is a term used in Japanese to refer to arts that are passed down to only one person per generation, usually father to son etc. In a lot of Japan's traditional arts, things are done in such a way (think pottery schools and caligraphy schools etc.)

Dormouse, I think you are being too hard on that particular translator. After all, Fist of the North Star is quite an old series, around 1983-1987 after all. It may be a generation gap you know?

It was a joke, lol and I haven't actually finished the series myself. Thought it'd be obvious since I called such a cheesy series like that "the maddest series of all time".

And for the record, I'm like 21 lol. It's just that it appears in so many other series as references, that I know quite a bit about it.

ah, so it was reference to fist of north star. well since I never read that manga myself, I don't know about that reference
