My antivirus software is about to expire. McAfee annoys the crap out of me, the only reason I'm using it is because someone gave it to me for free. But I am planning to change it. I am undecided between Karpersky and Norton.

This is compares antivirus software: http://www.av-comparatives.org/. I find it kinda hard to understand but if you want in-depth comparisons, here's a purportedly third-party set of tests.
Anyways, I've never used Karpersky, but Norton, I think, does a really good job at finding and removing or quarantining viruses. As an alternative, I'd look into MalwareBytes. It's free and among my favorite. Now for an amusing story. A friend of mine was using a pirated Windows 7 that came with McAfee. After installing the OS and booting it up, McAfee decided that it found a virus. Not exactly unexpected for pirated software. Unfortunately, one of the files it found was critical for McAfee to run. Well the antivirus died as a result. He's never really liked McAfee since.

I'd choose Karpersky over Norton any day for your 2 options.
For me: Microsoft Security Essential MalwareBytes Firefox Ad-blocker Dr. Delete or File Assassin Used to use AVG but MSE takes up way less memory and processing. It's also pretty darn fast at scanning. |

If you want a much better take on the subject than what I can give I'll direct you to the amazing works of Carl Sagan in the Cosmos mini-series, in particular the bit about precisely travelling at the speed of light.

<-- My current avatar is a chibi (the original character is not though).
Edit: Yes, that's Lan. Chibi (in anime and manga art) is the style of drawing characters in a deformed way, with big heads and small bodies. |

I'm in the UK, and I bought the flowers from a site in the country I want to send it to, so I can't taste it even if I want to. Sigh, looks like this question may remain unanswered.
