Codetermination: worker representation on corporate boards of directors

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codetermination

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worker_representation_on_corporate_boards_of_direc tors

In various European countries, there are laws and policies regarding employee representation on the boards of directors of companies. Germany is perhaps the best-known example of this. Employee representatives are elected by the workers or perhaps appointed by the labor unions.

In the United States, in Congress, there have been bills promoting worker representation on company boards in both the House and the Senate. They are the Reward Work Act and the Accountable Capitalism Act.

employee ownership

There also have been congressional bills promoting employee ownership of businesses. Together with codetermination's worker representation on corporate/company boards, they could promote economic democracy in the United States.

Volkswagen proposed workers' councils during the attempt to unionize its plant in Tennessee. The workers voted down the contract, though I don't think the councils were the primary obstacle.
