Translation of the Prologue of the Welcome to the NHK Novel
Prologue
There is "conspiracy" in this world. However, the conspiracies that come out of other people's mouths are more than 99% of the time mere delusions or intentional lies. Books one would see in a bookstore, such as "The Big Israeli Conspiracy Responsible for the Japanese Economic Downturn!" or "The Ultraconspiracy of the CIA to Hide a Secret Contract with Aliens!", are all merely dull delusions. However, despite all that, we as humans love "conspiracy." Conspiracy. We have been helplessly drawn in by its sweet and painful sound. For example, let's take a look at the process in which the "Israeli Conspiracy Theory" was created. The people who would write about the Israeli conspiracy theory are the ones who have severe complexes and cling to resentment, often asking themselves "Why is it that I'm so poor?" or "Why is it that my life can't get easier?" or "Why is it that I can't get a girlfriend?" and so forth. Their mind and body are constantly exposed to both internal and external pressures. Furthermore, there are suppressed grudges, an inexhaustible hatred towards society. Anger. However, that anger most of the time has roots in one's own worthlessness. You are poor because you lack the ability to make money and you have no girlfriend because you have no charm. However, to recognize that reality and to realize one's own incompetence, considerable courage is required. Because we are human, none of us would want to look upon our own faults. And thus, the conspiracy theorists project their own worthlessness externally. They have created external to themselves, a fictitious "enemy." The enemy. Our enemy. Society's enemy. The enemy somewhere has weaved out a web of evil conspiracy, and thus I am not able to find happiness. Because of the conspiracy, I cannot get a girlfriend. Yes! It is the fault of all the Jews! Because the Jews are involved in an evil scheme somewhere, I cannot find happiness! Damn those Jews! I won't forgive them! ... Sheesh! It's a big annoyance to the Jews as well. All the conspiracy theorists should stare reality in the face some more. There is no external "enemy." There is no external "evil." It is all your fault that you are a worthless person. By no means is it a Jewish conspiracy, nor is it a CIA conspiracy and of course it's not an alien conspiracy. One should first of all be firmly aware of that fact and go on with one's life. "..." However, despite all that... In extremely rare cases, there people who discover a real "conspiracy." Even right now, there are people who bear witness to conspiracies in progress beneath the surface. And who might they be? I'm one. ---- The prologue looked amusing, so I did a quick translation of it, but I have no plans to translate the rest of the novel. |

I'm so addicted to this series, I can't wait to see 31 and beyond.
Anyone know if any companies are translating the original novel? I don't know japanese myself, but would really like to read the novel. Imo the story is dragging quite a bit, and Satou is running into even more problems than he already have, I think chapter 31 is just a setup for more pain later on for Satou, but it depends how Satou learn to adapt and accept it this time, maybe he'll really become stronger and face reality the correct way with his senpai. . I hope this is the last if it turns out to be negative, I think this turn of events might also affect the relationship of Satou and Misaki in some way. Ever since welcome to the starry skies, this is one of my favorite manga, but it's releasing very slow =( Last edited by Sole; 2006-09-23 at 23:32. |

Yeah, Welcome to the Starry Sky's so good thanks to its over the top madness.. and of course, its moving type of story telling. It'll be good to see what they can do with it for the anime.

This manga is great. I really liked the anime, so I picked up the manga and have read everything that's been scanslated in the past few days. I like all of the characters a lot and like a couple of other members here I'd want Satou to be with Kashiwa though I don't see the story going in that direction (up to 26 anyways). Appears I may be in for a long wait before I read the next chapter, though .
