I agree about the language switch being quite weird. Other than that:
It kind of seems that a lot of dubs just can't match up to japanese standarts, probably because voice acting is taken SO much more seriously, and soo much bigger budget in japan. Over here being a voice actor is generally nothing too prestigous, yet over there - given you do a good job - you're a star. There are some exeptions however, to redub quality. Take 'Golden Boy' for example: I watched German, Japanese and English dub. At that time i was burnt to believe that NO db could ever be nearly as good as the japanese original... however i was wrong: Surprisingly the English (Oo) dub of the series managed to give it an extra feel that made it even more hilarious, spot-on~! Props to that team, really. I have to say most of the time tho, the only thing that goes lower than japanese to english dubs for anime would be japanese to english dubs for games >.< Hate it when they don't give an original language option... Back on topic: After Yakitate!! Japan having ended(at least anime wise) i figured this would be a good anime to pick up, given a similar theme. Naturally the feel and setting are quite different, but after episode one, im quite happy with what i've seen so far. Any other Yaki-fans feel like giving some input on how they felt with this series? Im certainly curious for more... xD |

Well I watched Cooking Master Boy a long time before Yakitate Japan, so when Yakitate started I was actually hoping for another CMB. That's just the opposite of your situation.
Naturally, Yakitate wasn't the same. While I have enjoyed Yakitate, I prefered CMB. Yakitate focused much more on bizarre humor and puns, while CMB was about interesting cooking and drama. Fortunately, they weren't entirely different. Yakitate still had a lot of interest in food.

Yay, thanks for your quick response ^_^
I'll be posting a bit more as i delve deeper into the series. Anyways.. after a couple more eps i hae to say that i do agree that the chinese dub is quite fitting for the surroundings Oo it feels more fitting than japanese in the context... Just like some german(or english) dubs seem SOooOoo out of place sometimes in an explicitly japanese setting Oo |

The Chinese dub does have relevance since the characters are in China. After all, if they are actually speaking Chinese, it makes sense for them to be voiced in Cantonese. Unfortunately I prefered the Japanese voice actors.

Cantonese voice actors, unlike Japanese voice actors, are not paid like a million to dub voices, and there are only about 30 voice actors in the TVB team (I am sure less than 100 in total in Hong Kong). Many of the need to dub multiple roles (and sometimes you can't even tell they dubbed multiple roles!)... Stop dissing TVB voice actors please. They are really awesome. I apologize for bumping this thread up. Oh btw, I have the whole series in Cantonese dub, but episode 25+ are not subtitled... if anyone is interested in getting them, please feel free to contact me. |

As previous posts indicates, episode 37+ are Mandarin dubs, not Cantonese dubs, and a few people said that they would like to hear the rest of the series in Cantonese, hence I made my post. -_-; |

It kinda threw me when it suddenly switched from Cantonese to Mandarin. I wouldn't mind seeing the end of the series resubbed using the canontonese episodes if it were possible (given that getting japanese raws is pretty hard, I took a look once and found maybe 2-3 episodes)

Yeah Cantonese sounds wierd the phonetics are just bizzare its isnt sweet sounding like Mandarin . But dont let that dissaude you from watching this series . I faced a similar problem but by around EP 4/5 you will get used to cantonese sounds and wont mind it .

I am used to cantonese because i am a chinese though...i have the entire series and half of it is cantonese while the other seem to be mandarin. Is it just me or Mei Lin's breast size is doubled after the first half of the series? The drawings of the characters are horribly distorted too.Well, can't expect much since it is old.
I actually tried one of the recipes.I tried to cook "Golden Fried Rice" and it turned out to be complete crap. Then i tried to taste like those people where music and ladies dancing will appear. But i never feel that way.*scratches head* |

After all these years I doubt anyone still has the scripts... But aionion is founder, and I think Burnz functions as leader. You could perhaps ask in conclave too, as conclave were a part of keep before the split. |

Ok, this is about all the patience I can spend syncing the video with audio... (The audio does not match the video perfectly... they are off by a few seconds at different parts, so I had to pretty much watch the whole thing and make edits to the audio and then encode and I suck at encoding >_>) It would be much easier if I can get my hands on the scripts! Even though my Japanese is still crappy at least I can make some edits to the translations! Oh well. I did ask Burnz at a-keep but I was ignored... Anyways, audio is nearly lossless, hence the big file... *doesn't quite know how to compress audio =x* 01 - http://www.sendspace.com/file/89grkf 02 - http://www.sendspace.com/file/kjhd2j 03 - http://www.sendspace.com/file/p17y3a |
