Lead Females who lose out

It doesn't happen very often, but the lead females DO occasionally lose out in getting their man. How many examples can you think of? Here is a partial list:

Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures - Mitsuki Sana has every possible advantage - as the first girl, the lead girl, and the classic tsundere. Alas, she loses out in rather spectacular fashion to the sweet girl, Mitsuki Rara.

Last Exile - As Claus's steadfast friend and pseudo-caretaker, Lavie seems to have the inside line... only to be ditched on numerous occasions in favor of an 11-year-old loli. Tatiana and Sophia also have their turns with Claus. Their last conversation may have been a death knell; Claus might as well have said, "Let's just be friends..."

School Days - An epic finish that takes out all of the leads.

SHUFFLE! - How did this happen? A battle that should've matched red vs. blue instead become green vs. orange.

Kagihime - Arisu voluntarily bows out, as she feels she is a substitute for the person that Aruto really loves.

Fate/Stay Night - No winners in this one.

Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu - Looks like the shrew will get her man. On the plus side, she is basically the older version of his younger sister.

Jinki: Extend - Man, the relationship between Aoba and Ryouhei in the manga doesn't even happen in its smallest form in the anime, or even in the drama CDs.

Nanoha/A's/StrikerS - Yes, I'm going to say it. Nanoha and Yuuno. They definitely looked like they were going to be a couple (the scene where Chrono blushed with Nanoha and Yuuno got that frustrated look on his face at the end of the 1st series comes to mind), but I guess the staff for A's and StrikerS were pro-yuri.

Well it sounds like the bulk of this thread should be under spoiler tags.... Actually, you shouldn't read this thread at all if you mind slight spoilers, because giving away the anime might already mean you know the female lead will not get her man....

Haruka of course, she's so cute in high school too. Although I don't like to admit it, she is the hero of the story, a kind of deus ex machina.

Would you call her a lead female? I would. It started with her, although I will argue that there are two equally important female leads.

This is of the same scenario as KgNE, because I will argue that there are two female leads. Although this is quite different, because...one of them ends up with...part of the male lead.

Spoiler for Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo:

I still don't really understand the ending, but it's pretty much true that Makoto doesn't get her man.

Spoiler for Byousoku 5 Centimetre:

This one is weird, because there isn't a female lead. The most prominent and recurring female figure is the one we see first, and that's the one that I'm talking about, Akari. She ends up happy, but the anime itself has a longer time span than most. She didn't end up with her first man, or the male lead.

Sakura didn't end up with Yukito nor Syaoran. It's quite sad, but I still love the ending, and the second movie even more.

Spoiler for Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal:

Well Tomoe dies, so that pretty much explains everything. In the beginning the man she was destined to marry also died.

Chise did manage to save Shuji, but they don't end up together. It's quite a sad ending.

Let's see, at least seven out of my top ten anime falls into this category. Hm, I must really like bittersweet endings.

If the final scene of the second movie wasn't a "get-together scene", then I don't know what the heck is. She even cried out "DAAAAAAISUKI!!!!" as she jumped over the gap into Syaoran's arms.

Errrr, well, this particular movie is still the official continuation of the series that ties the final loose end, and in the end of the movie Sakura and Syaoran get together. It's not like those Bleach/DBZ/Naruto/Shounen anime movies, where they don't really fit into the timeline of the series...

OMG YEAH THAT SUCKED HARDCORE! Completely retarded, disturbing, WRONG, and WAY too random. I will always hate that pairing aldkfjldsjflsdjf. I had to watch nine episodes of funny School Rumble to cure my emoness of THAT stupid ending! Totally ruined the show's romance. That's why I have a strong love but strong hate for Kannazuki at the same time.

Mitsuki loses the guy of her dreams first but she finds a new MUCH better love so she's a lead female who loses and then wins big time.

MAN but does this poor girl get the short end of the stick!Possibly the worst ending EVER for a main heroine. Not only does she lose her first crush to another girl but she turns back into her original form...a goddamn DUCK. So now she can't even date her still-human maybe-second-crush! It's really really sad.

Wasn't really stupid of her, the truth is there are no real 'pure people' or heroes, that's what makes me love this anime so much.. n_n

And Akio, yeah teh pimp sex machine.. Made love to Touga as well, the part where they get to go on the bed everytime Utena duels.. <.<

This show should also be labeled Yaoi and Incest.. =P
