Fun fact:
The body type and builds of the main sumo characters are more similar to late 19th century sumo wrestlers.
Sumo wrestlers of that period were thinner and more muscular compared to their rotund late 20th century successors.

Spoiler for Meiji-era examples:

PS. Pity the mangaka didn't choose to make Hinomaru a historical themed one...it would have fit the era perfectly.

Chapter 159 is the last chapter of part 1 of the series: 学生相撲編 the Student Sumo Arc. Part 2 of the series starts on chapter 160.

I haven't read chapter 160 yet, but it is probably safe to assume that it is a time skip.

Chapter 160:

1st time I see a sport manga actually go into professional circle here, most Sport manga I knew ended in the last year of HS or final College match, the other closest is Koihinata Minoru, but that is happened while the MC in college so hardly count

^what is with ippo?

anyway, i agree still, most sports mangas (actually pretty much all except for shamo, ippo and 2 or so others) end after school or college,

nice to see this series go all out

Ippo was part of the pro from the start, similar to Joe, no HS club or tournament, Ippo take straight pro license & involve with ranking in the very beginning

One month ago I would of answered that most likely not since it was reaching its conclusion, but with the news of a second season/part starting, it is still a possibility for it to get animated

Though while it will now showcase the pro career stage, is Hinomaru still in highschool or he has already graduated?

I think he graduated.

I've heard sports anime are usually more popular with female viewers because they get to see cute/handsome guys there.
Hinomaru's guys are drawn as more rugged and rough than the average ikemen, so there's concerns it may not attract that usual fanbase.
