Hmmmm, least it's looking like those who don't like competitive play are finally going to have a good mode to play in the game since all they're fighting are AI's.
Kind of looks like TF2's take on a "tower defense" game style considering the robots come in waves and you can upgrade your weapons and such between them.

I'm not too surprised about this, since I'd heard before about the presence of robot class variants being present in the Source filmaker collection of ingame assets. Even the giant parts.
Should be an interesting gameplay addition.

But the brothers are dead now...so that leaves the Blu and Red team leaderless doesn't it?

Just so we're clear, it's 99 cents for a random chance hat/misc drop. The game mode is pretty much free. You only have to pay for the rewards, which are entirely cosmetic and non-gameplay affecting. So no incoherent nonsensical rage, please. Edit: Update is out. Oh yeah, MvM servers are 32 player servers with 6 slots held by players and the rest by bots/spectators. This entire Mann VS Machine update has been a complete comical* screwup as far as the servers go. Valve, there's something wrong when 10k players are waiting half an hour to an hour to join a coop minigame, and then to get kicked when they finally start loading into the server.
*It's comical because this is probably costing Valve money. New/returning players to TF2 because of the publicity of the Mann VS Machine update probably aren't going to stick around if they can't ever actually PLAY the Mann VS Machine update. Which means they won't buy stuff from the Mann Co store, which is the way TF2 makes money now that it's F2P. edit: Okay, I'm officially convinced that Valve is worried like shit about people being pissed at the Mann VS Machine update server issue. Maybe it's just coincidence, but it seems kinda weird that after two days of mucking about with the Mann VS Machine servers, I get a hat drop for the Tyrants helm.

I'm guessing since everyone wants to try it out, particularly the "Mann Up" variation of the co-op mode, so there probably aren't enough servers to meet the extremely high demand... Looks helluva lot of fun, but I guess I'll let the whole thing cool off a little first.

I've played a few games of MvM. It's incredibly fun, though there are a few kinks in how servers handle the game mode. If there's somehow a spectator (apparently there's supposed to be no spectators), that's one less bot on the map at any given time, so having several spectators can severely nerf the difficulty. Also, either there's some bug in the server browser where full servers somehow are displaying as empty servers full of bots that can't be joined, or bots are taking up slots that are supposed to be for human players.
