So, was there no new material at all?

If so, I'm definitely skipping it. Recap episodes are something that can never be done right. Doubly so in a supposedly long running series that's only been going on for 12 episodes and is in the middle of an arc rather than at the end of it. No reason for one whatsoever.

yep,only new material is maybe 5 secs at beginning of episode and that is probably filler.
Check beginning of episode skip rest and check the end

What's the point of doing this,i don't understand their reasoning,they're not even close to catching up to the manga,and after 12 episodes,a recap already ?o_O

It makes for a very cheap episode.

I'm assuming the recap is as a person said, to make up for the fact that they'll have to take a break some time... and I'm assuming the break is this next week. Most anime seem to take a break the week of new year's so I think HunterxHunter may be doing the same.

Yeah, I assumed it was going to be a recap and there it was. Glad I didn't bother watching since it would have been a waste of time.

Keiko Han has lines in this episode again.

So hard for me to not just imagine the character saying, "Reinharto" every time she's getting emotional about Gon's quest to be a Hunter. Of all the voice actresses to ever do almost exclusively motherly characters I think she's done it the best in her career. Just something so distinct and reassuring about her voice and tone.

Well, I agree with Toto about the new anime. To me, it's better than the older.
I like the dark atmosphere of the old anime, like everyone. But I feel that the writers who made the filler in 1999's anime were less intelligent, or made no effort, because their scripts were illogical, and spoiled the original plot of the manga (as Gon's mother being the sister of Mito).

Anyway, as Toto isn't doing it, I made my own comparison of episode 11. Please keep in mind that I am not an English speaker so the pictures are in spanish and maybe there is something badly written...

Another interesting test for the fourth stage. Gon really has a tough target. Though even if you don't know who your target is you can still pas by getting 3 other id cards, since you only have to get 6 points. Gon better be careful though. He may have learned the trick to hunting, but he has to realize that it can happen to him as well. I was surprised the guy didn't take Gon's id cad when he was sleeping.

This portion of the test had me hooked to HxH when I watched the older version. It was one of the most powerful moments I've experienced from watching anime. I'll be paying close attention to how the new version chooses to animate what's coming next in the next few episodes.

Am watching old version right now and sometimes checking new one just to see how far has it gotten and... aren't they missing a whole test here? The last one was the tower and now it is hunting... what about the huge wave? Or was that a filler in older series?

Indeed but the story made it clear that there was never really anyway for Gon to beat Hisoka and his fight with the old man only further increased the Mary Sueness by having the old man recognise that Gon had the right attitude (something that the story keeps repeating ad nauseum)

anyway I knew that the boat episode thingy in 99 is a filler, i miss that too but I love how they gone on the story so far.

Anyway, as Toto isn't doing it, I made my own comparison of episode 11. Please keep in mind that I am not an English speaker so the pictures are in spanish and maybe there is something badly written... Spoiler for comparison of episode 11: The episode 11 of 2011's anime adapted the last 5 pages of chapter 20, and 18 pages of chapter 21 of the manga. It matches with the final minutes of the episode 15 and the episode 16 of 1999's anime. Leroute design is more like the manga in anime of 2011, especially the hair. The first bet is on the sex of Leroute. When it's time to examine Leroute body, the way they skip that scene is different in the 3 versions. In the manga Togashi puts a label that says "Please wait a moment." In the anime of 2011 Leorio is seen ascending to heaven as an angel. In anime of 1999, Tompa covers Gon eyes, and for some reason Lippo cameras stop working, so he can't see anything neither. In my opinion the best solution was in the manga. Simple and funny. The 2011's is too childish, and the 1999's has no sense: Tompa concerned about the innocence of Gon? The cameras breaking "just because"? Then we have another monologue of Tompa. And then, another important difference. In the old anime, Leroute was a psychologist who tortured his patients mentally. She begins torturing Leorio, describing him psychologically and making inferences about his past. Somehow she guess the story about Leorio's friend who he could not save. She also says that all the team will lose because of him. Leorio seems to be defeated but Kurapika and Gon encourage him, and he overcomes the problem. In contrast, in the manga and anime of 2011, this scene is far less intense. Leroute is not a psychologist. She just apply a little simple psycological tricks to win the game of Rock-paper-scissors. It is up to Killua fighting, and Leorio distrusts his ability. Graphically his reaction is more like the manga in the anime of 2011. In the manga and anime of 2011, Leorio believes that Killua is weak just because he is a child. Instead, in the old anime, Leorio distrusts Killua's mental skill (the subtitle says "If this fight requires using your brain, we are lost!") Johness design is also more similar to the manga in the anime of 2011 (look at the hair and the beard below the sideburns) Here there is a negative point in the anime of 2011. In the past of Johness, they censored when he attacks the policeman tearing part of his arm. This was shown in the anime of 1999: And then the fight starts. In the anime of 1999 Gon trust in Killua blindly. In the anime of 2011 he just stays looking "thoughtful". In the manga we don't see the reaction of Gon. The instant when Killua attacks Johness is much more explicit in the manga. In both animes it is censored. Johness injury was more censored in the anime of 1999. It was just a black stain. In 2011 is a hole and the blood is red. And here is the heart. In the anime of 2011 they solved the censorship by wrapping the heart in a pouch. In the anime of 1999 it was better done, it is a bit censored, but everybody can realise that it is a heart, and it is more faithful to the manga. Indeed, in the manga is overly explicit LOL. Killua explodes the heart in the manga and the anime of 1999, what seems more cruel, or at least more violent. In the anime of 2011 he returns it back to Johness once he is dead, so is more comical. Well, if you think about it, it's pretty cruel too, He is mocking the corpse. But the way he does it is amusing. Everyone is surprised, Gon explains that Killua comes from a family of murderers. In the anime of 1999 he mentions that it's the Zoldyck family, while in the manga and anime of 2011 he just says "a family of elite murderers." Finally Killua shows how his nails grow. In the manga and the anime of 2011 it is explained once they are in the room where they have to wait. Instead, in the anime of 1999 it's explained when he finishes his fight (a minor detail).
