Just saw ep 1

and man, am I confused. LOL

All I get is Noel has been waiting in same spot for years while she gets forgotten until end of ep 1 when Nonoka remembers.

Tho... the setting reminds me of another series (can't quite remember)

At this point anything's possible, I think we need to give it at least 2 more episodes before we can know what she really is

Lovely characters. I like Nonoka, and I really like her dad. All the other characters show promise at least. Very charming show so far.

The one red flag for me is the supernatural/fantastical element. I've admittedly become a bit cynical towards shows that are basically "cute SoL + one distinct supernatural element". Said supernatural element often ends up being just added eye candy or marketing flavoring designed to draw in the viewers, while ending up being poorly thought out and/or adding little to the show.

Still, Sora no Method's first episode was largely excellent, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.

It's not just Glasslip. Though Glasslip being fresh in my mind doesn't help.

Golden Time is another somewhat recent anime show that I probably would have liked better if it didn't have a certain controversial element. And there are other shows I could name, but I don't want to drag this thread off on a big tangent.

Basically, I'm a bit leery of anime shows having one lone fantastical/supernatural element, because it tends to feel overly gimmicky to me, when I encounter it in anime.

But hey, this show may well be an exception to that, and I hope it is. For what it's worth, that "thing in the sky" certainly looks great. It's well-drawn and well-animated at least.

I'm hoping this turns out like Anohana which also used a supernatural element.

That's pretty much Hisaya Naoki's signature, though. Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly.

hm, still no idea what to make of this episode 2.
Has just enough for me to check out episode 3 next at least.

A few characters introduced, but that's it. The character designs are a cute, and the animation seems good, but very vague still on what kind of story its trying to tell imo.

Ep.2

So, they are going to fight the saucer, eh?

All Nonoka's friends except the long-black hair girl (and maybe that guy) don't remember her at all even after she introduced her name.

Yuzuki said something about "that girl fault", if 'that girl' means Nonoka, I wonder what could she have done If she moved away without saying anything to her friends.

Still don't see how they will make the saucer realted to the plot. I guess I have to watch more eps...

Ep 02

Well, well, well. Color me intrigued. That was not the direction I expected the story to take... it definitely gave me the vibe of being deliberately crafted, though.

Somehow, I think it is more than just fireworks or being able to access the island. Yuzuki is troubled by something else, and as best I can make it it might be related to her closeness to her twin brother (and perhaps by extension even her family and what she felt to be happiness and stability in general?) - remember when she was in her closet looking for "a weapon", stumbled across the photo album, and began quietly looking through it with a happy smile on her face? And remember her later fuming with anger and stomping on the pier while calling her brother an idiot and that he didn't get it after he told her to stop what she was doing? I must admit I am also curious who "that girl" is for Yuzuki: Nonoka? Koharu? Shione? Maybe even Noel (though I doubt Noel is the one being referred to)?

It's interesting that the story also had Nonoka, Yuzuki, Koharu (the childhood friend of the twins whose family runs the souvenir shop dedicated primarily to the disc) and the headphones wearing girl (whose name is Shione who seems to remember Nonoka) all wind up in the same class together and yet none of them sees the all-encompassing narrative behind the appearance of the disc, Noel, Nonoka and what went on "behind the scenes" back then. We, the viewers see a little bit more, but we do not have the full picture, as the story trickles bits and pieces out to us of more details of different facets of the overall story from different characters' words and memories.

I am very, very interested to see the story unveil, and for me there actually was a lot going on in the ep.

Of course...I may be a little biased here in my enthusiasm.

It's a very charming show, with a lovely female lead character in Nonoka. The rest of the cast is thus far either amusing, intriguing, likable, or some combination thereof.

It's also a pretty show, and generally fun to watch. So far this show seems very well-made and I have no major criticisms of it, really. But all of this has one huge caveat...

My mind just can't stop going back to the bigger picture here.

You have a huge, flashy flying saucer in clear open view over a Japanese town. It's been there for several years, and it is not moving. Everybody knows it is there.

The ramifications here are absolutely huge. And so loads of questions are flying through my mind.

How is the world reacting to it? It would seem to be rather strong evidence for the existence of extra-terrestrial life. Which is huge, and would garner endless speculation. This Japanese town would become the world's biggest tourist destination for millions of people fascinated by the idea of alien life.

Have scientists tried to communicate with it? Or study it? Or land on top of it? Try to cut off samples of it, maybe? Sure, there's a big risk, but I have to imagine this would be endlessly fascinating to many scientists, and some may well want to take the risk to get up close and personal with this flying saucer.

Some would see it as a major threat. With this in mind, Yuzuki's reasons for wanting to get rid of the saucer were so, so cute, in every sense of the word "cute". I'm pretty sure there's people at the Pentagon that would similarly want it removed, but for much less sentimental concerns than fireworks displays.

"Has somebody tried throwing a F-15 at this yet, I wonder?" I'd imagine the idea of trying to blast it out of the sky with something more powerful than a toy rocket has been discussed by now. Again, some would see it as a major threat.

Much like the first few episodes of SAO, my mind keeps drifting to the unseen story surrounding the seen story.

Yes, I know, I know - This is clearly not that kind of anime, just like SAO wasn't particularly concerned with the wider world response to an event that would truly rock the world. But I can't help thinking about it, because it's like having a 800 lb elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about, aside from maybe admiring his relatively tiny tail or disliking his scent.

I'm going to do my best to silence these thoughts in future episodes, though it would be nice to see at least some of my questions get addressed a bit, even if in passing.

Lol, saucer. I'm curious about this Noel girl more than I had thought now. There's a lot of mystery about her but I think we'll find out soon. Oh and the OP song is somewhat catchy now that I heard it a second time this week.
