Frankly, I wouldn't go so far to about the negatives against popular series. This world would be immensely boring if everyone shares the same perspective about things anyway.

I know tons of people who dislike mecha shows for various reasons, some ridiculous due to perceptions of limited shows when there's like 3566765 different variations of mecha shows out there, some justified for other reasons. Likewise, I knew a damn lot of people who thinks stuff like Naruto, Bleach are wayyyy better than any stuff labelled Magical Girls on it. And no, they never bothered to watch beyond the OP, much less get to know a different side to stereotyping. And also, there are people who just don't watch these kind of shows. Especially those that want to be wowed, PlanetES, Twelve Kingdoms, etc style. Shows that scream epic in a million degrees.

Put 1+1+1, and there's bound to be a huge number of them. And in that huge number, just like the GSD fiasco where everyone claimed they stopped watching after episode 30 due to vomit-inducing-nausea, when they are actually still watching it, there'll be people on the other side of the wall who won't like it. In fact, it's even understandable if people within the walls don't exactly like episode 1. Just that I don't really see how it deserves a 1. Maybe a 3 at worst, even if judged solely by seiyuu performance and the technical aspects of the show.

So we've evolved to having fansubs released only 24 hours after an episode first airs? Now I REALLY feel the "old" in "old school". What's next? Will I eventually find myself in a conversation like:

"Hey, there's a subtitled version of the 4th season opener!"

"But... they've only made THREE seasons of that show! That opener doesn't EXIST yet!!"

"Well, you know how good the fansubbers are these days..."

According to the airing schedule, Wakayama city has a 24-72 hour head start than the rest of Japan in airing Nanoha StrikerS episodes. (On Sundays while bigger cities like Kyoto/Osaka and Tokyo/Chiba have to wait till Tuesdays. ) Considering that Wakayama isn't exactly a big city (pop. ~380,000), raw capturing technology probably isn't as adequate as in the big towns. Hopefully we'll see some higher res raws by Tuesday.

Spoiler for the OP:

Secret Ambition is in a league of it's own; I mean, Eternal Blaze (S2) was a little differently flavoured than Innocent Starter (S1), but both were still relatively close. For S3, StrikerS, however, Secret Ambition is in no way close to it's two precedents. (I know it's no point comparing, but I can't help it.)

kur0gan described it as "manly" and in an indescribable way, that's pretty true. I'll try to describe it in my own works. Secret Ambition isn't a song where a lot of feelings, especially innocent and uncertain feelings, get through thru the vocals. If I would have to use a word to describe it, I'd say that this is a "up-and-fighting" song. From the start we have a strong and confident vocal that just gives the idea that they have no weaknesses, fighting for victory all the way. Is it also significant that "boku" is used? The only remotely strained vocals I heard was near the end. Sadly, this lack made Secret Ambition kind of fall flat for me. I want more teenage (read: loli) uncertainty and difficult-decisions-angst in the vocals! No, really. Also the tune, I guess, had much a part to play - a pretty strong, and kind of forward tune thoughout the OP, if you ask me, that was too uniform.

The sequences of the OP, however, are an entirely different matter. Well, epic describes it well. Especially zooming into the Fate and Nanoha henshin preview; I do not know how many times I replayed the OP just to see that. While this time the scenes did not fit as well with the music, it was still an enjoyable watch.

In all, the OP wasn't all that good for me. Secret Ambition is a meh song to me atm, but hopefully, by the end of StrikerS I'll be loving it, as happened with A's.

Spoiler for The episode:

I'm happy. StrikerS definitely got started off on a strong episode. The introduction of Teana and Subaru was necessary, and that they did it well at that. The action was pure eye candy, as were the both of them hehe. Anyway, I was really wowed to hear Nanoha's matured voice (same seiyuu, I'm told), and after all this time of waiting; so that, if I may quote this, "I cried manly tears." Also, I got goosebumps hearing Raising Heart's vocals again; Donna Burke FTW!

Seriously tho, what I liked about the first episode was that they quickly got into that emotional (emo) spirit, the spirit that I watch and love MSLN for, almost right away; with Subaru getting trapped, later between her and Teana, and finally her reunion with Nanoha herself. It was this that especially made the episode such a strong one for me.

And, lastly, about Nanoha's barrier jacket; I honestly prefer her having a fully covered dress. The way it is now (while yes it does show off her miniskirt) makes her armor actually look comedic.

So confused. I thought all she still had was the Schwertkreuz...

Err, anyway, I liked the episode plenty. The visuals in the opening seemed quite sharp even with the low video quality. The combat animation for Subaru and Teana's trial seemed well above the par set by A's, and Subaru's moves are very flashy, but I still feel like the shots are just too static a lot of the rest of the time. I agree with... I think it was Lowegear, it's nice to have a character outside the presumably permanently-departed Aria with good illusion skills.

I guess they wanted to design a character that is different from your usual cartridge fed mages. Instead of using more and more cartridges to power up, she combines super robot style. XD
