"It really is nice of you to stop by, Fate." With a soft chuckle, Momoko slid a cup of coffee across the kitchen counter before pouring herself a cup as well. She'd long ago accepted the fact that her children—even the ones who weren't hers by blood—would always worry about her, and as such had stopped scolding them about constantly checking on her.

"I have some time off before I have to go to the station, and Chief likes you." Murmuring her thanks, Fate grabbed the cup and took a sip.

Momoko pulled over another stool and sat beside Fate. "Speaking of which, where's Nanoha? She's usually with you."

"Chief made her help Signum with some paperwork as punishment for our latest case."

"Oh, my." Momoko laughed. "What did she do this time?"

"What doesn't she do?"

Chuckling, Momoko stirred some sugar into her cup. “Did she threaten to throw someone into the car wash again?”

Fate twitched, although she tried to hide it, knowing that Momoko would notice. No, she decided to push a jumper off a bridge and then take a swan dive after her. She didn’t want to worry the older woman needlessly, so Fate sighed exaggeratedly. “No, she just went against proper procedure just one time too many this month, and so the Chief got fed up and decided to teach her a lesson.”

“Nanoha’s always had her own way of doing things.”

“Yes,” Fate agreed, rolling her eyes. “Violent ways. But she’s got good intentions underneath it all.”

"She takes after Shiro in that regard." Momoko's smile was both affectionate and sad; even years after the fact, she still felt a small ache whenever she spoke of her husband. "He was very much the same way when we met. I don't think I ever managed to completely calm him down."

"Did you try?"

"I gave up before we even got married."

Somehow, that statement made Fate blush. Quickly, she gulped down her coffee, wincing as she nearly burned her tongue. “Well, some days I just want to strangle her, but then she does something so…Nanoha that I end up—” The memory of last night made Fate go red, until she felt even her ears burning. “—um, I end up sort of forgiving her.”

Momoko chuckled. "Fate, honey, you don't have to dance around me. I know you and Nanoha have had sex."

Fate, who had lifted her cup to her lips, choked.

“WE HAVEN’T!” She nearly squealed, then blustered, “NO! We really haven’t! Who told you that we did?!?” Fate wanted to just die; this was not something that she wanted as conversation topics with Momoko. Or with Lindy for that matter.

Just as Fate feared, Momoko was giving her an amused, clearly unbelieving look.

"We haven't!" Fate knew she was digging herself deeper, but the denial wouldn't stop coming. "I've never even thought about Nanoha in that way, I swear, and I definitely haven't—"

"Fate, dear." Momoko held up a hand, chuckling. "I'm a grown woman. I was a wife, and I'm still very much a mother. I'm not going to judge you, or Nanoha, for having sex. Especially if it's with each other."

“But we really haven’t!” Fate could feel herself about to self-implode.

Momoko looked at her for a while, then nodded. “I believe you.” Fate had barely took in a breath of relief when Momoko commented with a knowing grin, “But you want to, right?”

Before Fate could explode with embarrassment, they heard a crunching sound of broken wood and the slam of the front door as it hit the wall with force.

An intruder?!

Fate's hand flew to her belt, and she tightly gripped the butt of her gun, not quite ready to pull it out. It seemed like a regular robbery, but if the suspect was armed...

She didn't even have time to think; all she knew for sure was that he was a man, clothed in black and quite huge, but fast for his size. In a heartbeat he was on her.

Fate blocked his punch and ducked in close, heaving an arm around his neck while throwing her weight to the side, using his momentum to flip him onto the ground. She tightened her choke hold, struggling to keep the larger man from dislodging her as he lashed about.

“FATE!” Momoko’s warning cry came too late.

All of a sudden, Fate’s world fractured into pieces, her perception floating away from her like ribbons in the wind. Somehow she was on the ground now, lying on her side and staring up at a second man brandishing a blood-smeared pipe. She had a gun—Fate knew that, but she couldn’t process what she should do next.

The pipe rose into the air again.

Later on, when asked what Momoko had done, all Fate would ever say was that the woman had amazing aim and a killer throw.

Through blurry eyes, the blonde saw a lamp soar into her line of vision, cracking the thug sharply in the head. It wasn't enough to take him down completely, but it made him stagger, and it was all the opening Momoko needed.

She was a blur of movement, so fast that she put Signum to shame; her elbow rammed hard into the man's gut, her knee flew up and smashed right into his jewels, and with a whistling cry the man crumbled.

"Sorry." Momoko's voice was soft as she came over to Fate, gently patting the blonde down. Finding her handcuffs, the older woman plucked them up and quickly clicked them into place on the man's wrists.

“Other man?” Fate slurred out, feeling oddly disconnected with the world.

“Frying pan,” Momoko answered, coming back over and putting her cold hands on Fate’s head. Just the touch made Fate moan and cough wetly.

In an experienced manner, Momoko moved out of the way while still holding Fate’s head as the blonde vomited onto the floor, shaking and seeing black blurs dancing in her vision. “Shh, it’s alright,” she soothed, carefully sliding Fate across the hardwood floor away from her mess.

“Sorry—”

“It’s alright.” Momoko pulled off her apron and folded it, putting it underneath Fate’s head. She found a clean dish cloth and pressed it to the side of Fate’s head, making Fate whimper and twitch in protest. “Hold that there while I call an ambulance, you’re bleeding a lot.”

“Call the police,” Fate muttered, one hand lying limply against the rough bandage to hold it down, although gravity was probably doing a better job of it. Inanely, she stuttered, “I think…I have…a concussion.”

"Shh. I will, honey, don't worry." Aching for the blonde, Momoko gently pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Don't move, you'll make yourself sick again."

Fate nodded dimly and lay still, listening to the sound of Momoko's voice as she pulled out her cell phone and made the call.

At least, that’s what Fate thought she did…it looked like the floor was moving oddly, like waves that rippled across her entire field of vision. Fate closed her eyes, fighting the nausea, and slowly the sounds dribbled out until they all turned into background noise.

Someone—Momoko, she assumed—was shaking her, speaking, shouting. Fate tried to open her eyes, but it was too hard…she knew that she had to fight, but Fate had never beaten it before, in all the forms that it took.

She gave in to the darkness.

When Fate came to again, only briefly, she saw only gray and faint shapes. She went back under.

The second time she managed to stay awake long enough to make sense of what she was seeing. She was in a hospital bed...

“Do you still remember your name, Fate-chan?” Nanoha grinned at her, seated beside the bed and leaning on the rail.

“Fate-chan,” Fate replied dryly. Inside, she felt a bubble of warmth and contentment rise up when Nanoha squeezed her hand.

“Your mom’s here too, she’s just outside with Mom filling out your paperwork.” Gently, Nanoha brushed Fate’s bangs back, her fingers light on the bandage wrapped around the blonde’s head. “Did you hear the funny story?”

“Huh?” Fate muttered drowsily, although she tugged at Nanoha’s hand to show that she was listening.

"Apparently, Mom called the police to bring in the men and then called the hospital like you asked her to." Nanoha chuckled. "They took too long coming in, so she drove you here herself."

Fate blinked. "Really?" For some reason, she still had a hard time keeping her eyes open.

"Yeah. So everyone arrived to find an empty apartment and two quivering, crying guys on the floor. I have no idea what Mom said to them, but…” Nanoha whistled with appreciation and grinned. “I want to know, those guys were terrified.”

A soft knock at the door got their attention, and Hayate smiled in at them. “Hey Fate-chan, I hope you’re feeling better.”

“Nuh,” Fate disagreed, squinting at her. Even though the lights in the room were dimmed, her head still pounded.

“I’m sorry I can’t stay, I have to process those guys,” Hayate apologized. “Nanoha, your mom is one awesome lady—deadlier than a cop, faster than an ambulance!”

“I know she is,” Nanoha said proudly.

“She and Lindy-san are having a great time out there comparing take-down strategies,” Hayate sweatdropped, laughing nervously. “I don’t think I’ve heard of more vicious things since that time we plotted to wax Yuuno’s legs while he was sleeping.”

Briefly, as Fate drifted off again, she thought Momoko was wrong in saying that Nanoha got a majority of her personality from Shiro. Between the two of them, it seemed evenly split in half.

“Do you think that Momoko-san would agree to come in and workshop Attacker Neutralization some day?”

And the White Devil's mother.

Ok, so it's a well known fact that one chapter of Life Goes On is on hiatus because of Lutecia. However, I got the urge to finally write out the key scene of the chapter. The chapter has Nanoha asking Fate and Yuuno when they fell in love, prompting them to go into flash back mode to the event that caused their relationship to change. Here is said event:

Yuuno silently slipped into his pitch black apartment, conscious of the fact that it was late and Vivio would be in bed by that hour. He had to admit that he was a bit grateful he didn’t have to deal with the child, as it had been a rather taxing day at the library. While he did care of Vivio and didn’t regret taking her in, lately it had gotten so tiring being around her.

The man still suffered the pains of losing some one so precious to him, but he couldn’t allow any of that above the surface. He had to appear cheerful for Vivio’s sake, and he wouldn’t let his work suffer because of his negative emotions either. As the days passed it got harder and harder to hold it all in and it threatened to burst out at any moment.

Yuuno sauntered towards his room. He was exhausted and wanted to climb into his bed and get to sleep as soon as possible lest he lose himself to his emotions. However, when he entered his room, he found his bed already occupied.

He was hardly surprised as he stood over his bed, and saw Fate sleeping in it. The Enforcer was back to work, but only on light detail and she would always come over to his place after work to be with Vivio. He imagined that she had wanted to share the bed with Vivio in the second bedroom, but the little girl probably replied with “I’m a big girl, I can sleep by myself!” Little did the child know that is was Fate who didn’t want to sleep alone.

While showing a marked improvement from her behaviour immediately following Nanoha’s death, it was clear that Fate was still hurting. She would often come to him and he would lend her a shoulder to cry on. Part of him wished she would stop doing that, though. He wanted to let his hurt out too, but he knew that he had to be her strength.

It was such a burden taking on her problems on top of his.

Knowing he was slipping, Yuuno shook such thoughts out of his head before turning to leave. He would have to sleep on the couch.

“… No…” He heard a pathetic mutter and the rustling of sheets. Yuuno looked back at his friend, his adjusted vision making out the contorted look on her face.

“Must be a nightmare…” He murmured and kneeled at the bed side.

The place where Fate was was dark and cold. She was surrounded by nothingness, everything that had been there before having been ripped away. Those happy times she had thought she had had with her mother shattered, and the smile of her most precious person overflowed with blood before it went lifeless. Fate was alone, abandoned by those she had loved the most. She felt no warmth.

When she shot upright in bed, her heavy breathing was the only thing in her ears. She wrapped her arms around herself to escape the cold, but all she felt was her skin covered in a cool sweat. She felt like a lifeless husk, devoid of any sort of sensation outside of the chilling numbness.

“Fate.”

She became groggily aware of some… presence beside her, but her brain could not process who it was.

“Fate.” Yuuno repeated, placing a hand on her shoulder. “You’re all right. It was just a dream.”

When his hand came into contact with her bare shoulder, she felt a bolt of energy go through her body. The warm hand was a stark contrast to her icy flesh, making her one shoulder feel as if it were the only real part of her body. That one small point of contact was the only part that felt alive.

It felt good, and Fate wanted more.

Her arms shot out and latched onto the stranger before her. Were they really a stranger? She knew who this person was, but Fate didn’t give it much thought as she clung to the source of warmth.

She felt arms go around her back and begin rubbing it gently, but it wasn’t enough. The heat spread slowly and wasn’t enough to fight off the chill. She needed something more intense.

Yuuno nearly yelped in surprise as Fate pressed her mouth against his, the force of it almost knocking him over. She pulled him in closer and held him firmly as her mouth noisily worked over his.

When the shock subsided, he managed to hold her at a distance. “F-Fate, what are you doing?”

“Please…” She whispered at him. She pulled one of his hands from her shoulder and brought it down to her chest where she pressed into the large mound of flesh. “Make me feel good.”

Seeing the tears welling up in the corners of her longing eyes is what broke the dam. Tossing aside his inhibitions, he let his pent up emotions flood out, crushing his mouth against hers and pushing her back down onto the bed.

Their clothes just seemed to melt away...

The chapter will also deal with the aftermath of this, however I felt it important to post this scene before continuing. I can't go on unless this part is done just right, which is why I want your feedback. Thanks.

The "M" rating says "non explicit" content. If I wanted to add in an intimate scene between two people having intercourse, but didn't use the "lewd" words for their body parts or actions, would that still be considered the "M" rating? If so, what would be the line between "M" and "MA" ?

That, would still be an explicit sex scene, and is not allowed. Our site only allows for up to M rated stories.

M: Not suitable for children or teens below the age of 16 with possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language.

MA: Content is only suitable for mature adults. May contain explicit language and adult themes.

Not very helpful, but my question was answered at least. Lemons aren't allowed, period. However, someone has to actually report them before they're removed. I have a few lemons up there and they havn't been reported, but I'm pretty sure if it was anything but NanoFate then they would be reported.

An expected reply, considering how they use 'explicit' rather than 'obscene'. While what counts as obscene is subjective, explicit means showing it in detail. So if you're going to write a sex scene, make it as vauge and obscure as possible.

Ok after reading this and feeling kinda sad that people abandoned it...I figured why not try to see if we can get it going again? If nothing else it will be a project for me to work on, but since this did start out as a joint fanfiction...it should remain as such for those who wish to continue it. Time to try to resurrect this project from so long ago..

Spoiler for Nanoha Part 10:

"You know, I am surprised" I spoke to Fate while trying on some skirts in the changing room

"About what?"

"That they didn't ask about my appearance." I replied while fumbling a little bit "I thought they would comment on how similar I looked to your Nanoha, but I guess they just never thought about what I would look like as an adult."

"I hope you didn't just jinx us by making that statement" I heard Fate laugh a little nervously "are you almost done?"

"Jyaaan~~" I opened the door and stepped out of the little changing booth "What do you think?"

Fate blushed a little bit and turned her head to the side. I could see her stealing glances at me which made me just want to run up to her and *ugh* squeeze the hell out of her.

"I-isn't that..." she mustered her courage to look at me again "isn't that a little too short?" she glanced at the white miniskirt I was wearing

"Mmm~?" I looked down at it and even spun around to check all sides "looks fine to me" I responded "My instructor uniform is this short and my barrier jacket is even shorter--Fate-chan? Fate-chan?!"

The blond was processing my words and I guess it was a little too much for her. She was embarrassed enough seeing me like this so I guess revealing that I wear something...shorter was just too much for this poor 9 year old that was one day going to be my lover. I quickly caught her and set her down gently, automatically checking her body for any sign of injury. I rushed over the to cashier to pay for the skirt after making sure she was ok.

Small ruby eyes slowly started to open as its owner began to regain consciousness

"Nano...ha?" she said half awake

"Good morning, Fate-chan" I looked down at her face.

"Where...am I?" she looked around a little hazily before realizing her head was resting on my lap "...!" she gasped and bolted upright.

"Fate-chan!" I caught the wobbling girl who was dizzy from her sudden movement and laid her back down "Just rest, its ok"

Her cheeks burned with embarrassment and she turned her head away from me "Nnn~" she nodded a little bit and shut her eyes. It was so adorable I had to resist the urge to hug her like I would my favorite doll.

We continued to sit like this on the bench for a few more moments...moments that I wished would last forever. "But this isn't right..." my mind spoke "This isn't MY Fate-chan...and I am not her Nanoha." I mentally sighed "As invaluable this experience might be...I must not do anything that will risk the future."

"Nanoha..? Nanoha?" her voice snapped me back into reality

"W-what is it?" I looked down at her concerned face.

She reached up and rubbed my cheek with her hands "You're crying..." she wiped the tears that I didn't notice escape my eyes

"I'm sorry" I turned my head away and wiped my eyes, trying to recover.

"Dont worry, Nanoha" she sat up and hugged me "I'm sure Yuuno-kun and the others will get you back...and I am sure the others in your time and dimension are working just as hard to get my Nanoha back."

"Thank you, Fate-chan" I returned her hug for a few moments before smiling at her again. "Tell you what" I looked around "want to get some ice cream?" I pointed to the stand "My treat for going shopping with me today."

"Nnn~!" Fate nodded and grabbed my hand as we walked on forward towards a yet uncertain future.

Fate's hand flew to her belt, and she tightly gripped the butt of her gun, not quite ready to pull it out. It seemed like a regular robbery, but if the suspect was armed...

She didn't even have time to think; all she knew for sure was that he was a man, clothed in black and quite huge, but fast for his size. In a heartbeat he was on her.

Fate blocked his punch and ducked in close, heaving an arm around his neck while throwing her weight to the side, using his momentum to flip him onto the ground. She tightened her choke hold, struggling to keep the larger man from dislodging her as he lashed about.

“FATE!” Momoko’s warning cry came too late.

All of a sudden, Fate’s world fractured into pieces, her perception floating away from her like ribbons in the wind. Somehow she was on the ground now, lying on her side and staring up at a second man brandishing a blood-smeared pipe. She had a gun—Fate knew that, but she couldn’t process what she should do next.

The pipe rose into the air again.

Later on, when asked what Momoko had done, all Fate would ever say was that the woman had amazing aim and a killer throw.

Through blurry eyes, the blonde saw a lamp soar into her line of vision, cracking the thug sharply in the head. It wasn't enough to take him down completely, but it made him stagger, and it was all the opening Momoko needed.

She was a blur of movement, so fast that she put Signum to shame; her elbow rammed hard into the man's gut, her knee flew up and smashed right into his jewels, and with a whistling cry the man crumbled.

"Sorry." Momoko's voice was soft as she came over to Fate, gently patting the blonde down. Finding her handcuffs, the older woman plucked them up and quickly clicked them into place on the man's wrists.

“Other man?” Fate slurred out, feeling oddly disconnected with the world.

“Frying pan,” Momoko answered, coming back over and putting her cold hands on Fate’s head. Just the touch made Fate moan and cough wetly.

In an experienced manner, Momoko moved out of the way while still holding Fate’s head as the blonde vomited onto the floor, shaking and seeing black blurs dancing in her vision. “Shh, it’s alright,” she soothed, carefully sliding Fate across the hardwood floor away from her mess.

“Sorry—”

“It’s alright.” Momoko pulled off her apron and folded it, putting it underneath Fate’s head. She found a clean dish cloth and pressed it to the side of Fate’s head, making Fate whimper and twitch in protest. “Hold that there while I call an ambulance, you’re bleeding a lot.”

“Call the police,” Fate muttered, one hand lying limply against the rough bandage to hold it down, although gravity was probably doing a better job of it. Inanely, she stuttered, “I think…I have…a concussion.”

"Shh. I will, honey, don't worry." Aching for the blonde, Momoko gently pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Don't move, you'll make yourself sick again."

Fate nodded dimly and lay still, listening to the sound of Momoko's voice as she pulled out her cell phone and made the call.

At least, that’s what Fate thought she did…it looked like the floor was moving oddly, like waves that rippled across her entire field of vision. Fate closed her eyes, fighting the nausea, and slowly the sounds dribbled out until they all turned into background noise.

Someone—Momoko, she assumed—was shaking her, speaking, shouting. Fate tried to open her eyes, but it was too hard…she knew that she had to fight, but Fate had never beaten it before, in all the forms that it took.

She gave in to the darkness.

When Fate came to again, only briefly, she saw only gray and faint shapes. She went back under.

The second time she managed to stay awake long enough to make sense of what she was seeing. She was in a hospital bed...

“Do you still remember your name, Fate-chan?” Nanoha grinned at her, seated beside the bed and leaning on the rail.

“Fate-chan,” Fate replied dryly. Inside, she felt a bubble of warmth and contentment rise up when Nanoha squeezed her hand.

“Your mom’s here too, she’s just outside with Mom filling out your paperwork.” Gently, Nanoha brushed Fate’s bangs back, her fingers light on the bandage wrapped around the blonde’s head. “Did you hear the funny story?”

“Huh?” Fate muttered drowsily, although she tugged at Nanoha’s hand to show that she was listening.

"Apparently, Mom called the police to bring in the men and then called the hospital like you asked her to." Nanoha chuckled. "They took too long coming in, so she drove you here herself."

Fate blinked. "Really?" For some reason, she still had a hard time keeping her eyes open.

"Yeah. So everyone arrived to find an empty apartment and two quivering, crying guys on the floor. I have no idea what Mom said to them, but…” Nanoha whistled with appreciation and grinned. “I want to know, those guys were terrified.”

A soft knock at the door got their attention, and Hayate smiled in at them. “Hey Fate-chan, I hope you’re feeling better.”

“Nuh,” Fate disagreed, squinting at her. Even though the lights in the room were dimmed, her head still pounded.

“I’m sorry I can’t stay, I have to process those guys,” Hayate apologized. “Nanoha, your mom is one awesome lady—deadlier than a cop, faster than an ambulance!”

“I know she is,” Nanoha said proudly.

“She and Lindy-san are having a great time out there comparing take-down strategies,” Hayate sweatdropped, laughing nervously. “I don’t think I’ve heard of more vicious things since that time we plotted to wax Yuuno’s legs while he was sleeping.”

Briefly, as Fate drifted off again, she thought Momoko was wrong in saying that Nanoha got a majority of her personality from Shiro. Between the two of them, it seemed evenly split in half.

“Do you think that Momoko-san would agree to come in and workshop Attacker Neutralization some day?”

"It really is nice of you to stop by, Fate." With a soft chuckle, Momoko slid a cup of coffee across the kitchen counter before pouring herself a cup as well. She'd long ago accepted the fact that her children—even the ones who weren't hers by blood—would always worry about her, and as such had stopped scolding them about constantly checking on her.

"I have some time off before I have to go to the station, and Chief likes you." Murmuring her thanks, Fate grabbed the cup and took a sip.

Momoko pulled over another stool and sat beside Fate. "Speaking of which, where's Nanoha? She's usually with you."

"Chief made her help Signum with some paperwork as punishment for our latest case."

"Oh, my." Momoko laughed. "What did she do this time?"

"What doesn't she do?"

Chuckling, Momoko stirred some sugar into her cup. “Did she threaten to throw someone into the car wash again?”

Fate twitched, although she tried to hide it, knowing that Momoko would notice. No, she decided to push a jumper off a bridge and then take a swan dive after her. She didn’t want to worry the older woman needlessly, so Fate sighed exaggeratedly. “No, she just went against proper procedure just one time too many this month, and so the Chief got fed up and decided to teach her a lesson.”

“Nanoha’s always had her own way of doing things.”

“Yes,” Fate agreed, rolling her eyes. “Violent ways. But she’s got good intentions underneath it all.”

"She takes after Shiro in that regard." Momoko's smile was both affectionate and sad; even years after the fact, she still felt a small ache whenever she spoke of her husband. "He was very much the same way when we met. I don't think I ever managed to completely calm him down."

"Did you try?"

"I gave up before we even got married."

Somehow, that statement made Fate blush. Quickly, she gulped down her coffee, wincing as she nearly burned her tongue. “Well, some days I just want to strangle her, but then she does something so…Nanoha that I end up—” The memory of last night made Fate go red, until she felt even her ears burning. “—um, I end up sort of forgiving her.”

Momoko chuckled. "Fate, honey, you don't have to dance around me. I know you and Nanoha have had sex."

Fate, who had lifted her cup to her lips, choked.

“WE HAVEN’T!” She nearly squealed, then blustered, “NO! We really haven’t! Who told you that we did?!?” Fate wanted to just die; this was not something that she wanted as conversation topics with Momoko. Or with Lindy for that matter.

Just as Fate feared, Momoko was giving her an amused, clearly unbelieving look.

"We haven't!" Fate knew she was digging herself deeper, but the denial wouldn't stop coming. "I've never even thought about Nanoha in that way, I swear, and I definitely haven't—"

"Fate, dear." Momoko held up a hand, chuckling. "I'm a grown woman. I was a wife, and I'm still very much a mother. I'm not going to judge you, or Nanoha, for having sex. Especially if it's with each other."

“But we really haven’t!” Fate could feel herself about to self-implode.

Momoko looked at her for a while, then nodded. “I believe you.” Fate had barely took in a breath of relief when Momoko commented with a knowing grin, “But you want to, right?”

Before Fate could explode with embarrassment, they heard a crunching sound of broken wood and the slam of the front door as it hit the wall with force.

The skipping around is because DC and I wanted a certain gap of time to fill in before the Runaway arc. DC in particular felt we were moving Fate and Nanoha into drama and angst too quickly, so we decided to set the Runaway Case File in February so we could fill in the gap of January with the hijinks and adventures they had before things got serious.

Ok, so it's a well known fact that one chapter of Life Goes On is on hiatus because of Lutecia. However, I got the urge to finally write out the key scene of the chapter. The chapter has Nanoha asking Fate and Yuuno when they fell in love, prompting them to go into flash back mode to the event that caused their relationship to change. Here is said event:

Yuuno silently slipped into his pitch black apartment, conscious of the fact that it was late and Vivio would be in bed by that hour. He had to admit that he was a bit grateful he didn’t have to deal with the child, as it had been a rather taxing day at the library. While he did care of Vivio and didn’t regret taking her in, lately it had gotten so tiring being around her.

The man still suffered the pains of losing some one so precious to him, but he couldn’t allow any of that above the surface. He had to appear cheerful for Vivio’s sake, and he wouldn’t let his work suffer because of his negative emotions either. As the days passed it got harder and harder to hold it all in and it threatened to burst out at any moment.

Yuuno sauntered towards his room. He was exhausted and wanted to climb into his bed and get to sleep as soon as possible lest he lose himself to his emotions. However, when he entered his room, he found his bed already occupied.

He was hardly surprised as he stood over his bed, and saw Fate sleeping in it. The Enforcer was back to work, but only on light detail and she would always come over to his place after work to be with Vivio. He imagined that she had wanted to share the bed with Vivio in the second bedroom, but the little girl probably replied with “I’m a big girl, I can sleep by myself!” Little did the child know that is was Fate who didn’t want to sleep alone.

While showing a marked improvement from her behaviour immediately following Nanoha’s death, it was clear that Fate was still hurting. She would often come to him and he would lend her a shoulder to cry on. Part of him wished she would stop doing that, though. He wanted to let his hurt out too, but he knew that he had to be her strength.

It was such a burden taking on her problems on top of his.

Knowing he was slipping, Yuuno shook such thoughts out of his head before turning to leave. He would have to sleep on the couch.

“… No…” He heard a pathetic mutter and the rustling of sheets. Yuuno looked back at his friend, his adjusted vision making out the contorted look on her face.

“Must be a nightmare…” He murmured and kneeled at the bed side.

The place where Fate was was dark and cold. She was surrounded by nothingness, everything that had been there before having been ripped away. Those happy times she had thought she had had with her mother shattered, and the smile of her most precious person overflowed with blood before it went lifeless. Fate was alone, abandoned by those she had loved the most. She felt no warmth.

When she shot upright in bed, her heavy breathing was the only thing in her ears. She wrapped her arms around herself to escape the cold, but all she felt was her skin covered in a cool sweat. She felt like a lifeless husk, devoid of any sort of sensation outside of the chilling numbness.

“Fate.”

She became groggily aware of some… presence beside her, but her brain could not process who it was.

“Fate.” Yuuno repeated, placing a hand on her shoulder. “You’re all right. It was just a dream.”

When his hand came into contact with her bare shoulder, she felt a bolt of energy go through her body. The warm hand was a stark contrast to her icy flesh, making her one shoulder feel as if it were the only real part of her body. That one small point of contact was the only part that felt alive.

It felt good, and Fate wanted more.

Her arms shot out and latched onto the stranger before her. Were they really a stranger? She knew who this person was, but Fate didn’t give it much thought as she clung to the source of warmth.

She felt arms go around her back and begin rubbing it gently, but it wasn’t enough. The heat spread slowly and wasn’t enough to fight off the chill. She needed something more intense.

Yuuno nearly yelped in surprise as Fate pressed her mouth against his, the force of it almost knocking him over. She pulled him in closer and held him firmly as her mouth noisily worked over his.

When the shock subsided, he managed to hold her at a distance. “F-Fate, what are you doing?”

“Please…” She whispered at him. She pulled one of his hands from her shoulder and brought it down to her chest where she pressed into the large mound of flesh. “Make me feel good.”

Seeing the tears welling up in the corners of her longing eyes is what broke the dam. Tossing aside his inhibitions, he let his pent up emotions flood out, crushing his mouth against hers and pushing her back down onto the bed.

Their clothes just seemed to melt away...

The chapter will also deal with the aftermath of this, however I felt it important to post this scene before continuing. I can't go on unless this part is done just right, which is why I want your feedback. Thanks.

I like this, but I have to say that I think Yuuno giving in comes off as a little too abrupt, and it damages the flow a little. Earlier in the scene, when the narration is focused on him, how he feels about the stress of supporting Fate while keeping himself in check is made pretty clear, but once Fate becomes the focus, his own problems with the situation sort of fade into the background, making the quick shift back when you mention the dam breaking feel a little awkward.

By the way, excellent job writing Fate. Her side of things was really, really well done. I hope you'll write more of this soon.

Yeah, that was me . I apologize if it jumps around some, but RB and I have roughly plotted out where the characters' development will go, and so if we get inspiration to write something, we try to set it in the timeline so that their actions correspond well with their characterization at the time.

“When the moon's in the sky, like a big-a pizza pie, that's amore,” the portly Italian waiter sung, playing his accordion and moving around the small table.

The full moon was indeed high in the sky, as Nanoha and Fate watched him, eating from the same plate of spaghetti. They didn't even notice they were slowly slurping up the same noodle until their lips met suddenly, and there was a pause of a few brief moments as they gazed into each other's eyes.

Then they both blushed and quickly separated, while the waiter continued to sing his love song.

It really was like flying, Fate realized. She spread her arms out to either side, feeling the wind blow strongly from she stood on the very tip of the prow of the large boat. Behind her, she could feel Nanoha holding onto her so she wouldn't fall, and was glad the other girl had taken her up here for this.

Fate gasped as she grabbed and picked up, long flowing dress and all. “What do you think you're doing!?”

“What does it look like?” Nanoha told her, a bit drunk, as she took another step on the staircase.

“It looks like you're going to take me to bed!” Fate protested, upset. “Have you not considered my feelings?”

“Frankly, Fate-chan,” Nanoha replied, in an even voice as she continued to ascend the stairs. “I don't give a damn.”

The pair headed for the bedroom, over Fate O'Hara's protests.

Fate Testarossa's favorite pasttimes were riding her horse and tormenting the farm girl that lived there. Her name was Nanoha, but she never called her that. Nothing gave Fate as much pleasure as ordering Nanoha around.

“Farm girl, polish my horse's saddle,” she ordered. “I want to see my face shining in by morning.

“As you wish,” Nanoha said simply. 'As you wish' was all she ever said to her.

“Farm girl, fill these with water,” Fate commanded, bringing two large buckets and setting them down, then added, “Please.”

“As you wish,” Nanoah replied.

That day, Fate was amazed to discover that when Nanoha was saying “As you wish,” what she meant was “I love you.” And even more amazing was the day she realized she truly loved her back.

“Farm Girl!” Fate commanded, as Nanoha was about to leave the room; she had to think of a reason to keep her here, then discovered it. “Fetch me that pitcher?”

Nanoha stepped over, right in front of Fate, the edges of her lips rising just a bit, as she reached up and plucked the object from it's hanger. “As you wish.”

“Nanoha?” Fate asked, fear creeping into her voice as she watched the horizon slowly light up. “What is it? Why are we out here at this time?”

The other woman sighed, slowly unbuttoning her shirt. “There's something I want to show you. The real reason, that no one else knows.”

Growing more fearful, Fate glanced back and forth as the first rays of sunrise streaked over the hills and through the trees, striking the woman she loved.

And her jaw dropped as Nanoha started to sparkle a rainbow of colors, glimmering in the sunlight.

“Do you hate me now?” Nanoha asked hesitantly, fear in her voice.

Fate answered by hugging and tackling the girl into the grass, tears in her eyes. “I could never hate you....”

They lay chastely in the meadow for a long time, basking in the love they had for each other.

Nanoha blinked as her teenaged daughter, Vivio, ran in from the back door, cheeks bulging, hand over her mouth. She disappeared into the hall and then Nanoha heard the bathroom door slam shut.

“Fate-chan, do you know what's wrong with Vivio?” she called, worried.

Fate walked in from the backdoor, looking perplexed. “I'm not sure. She wanted to know what it was like to be in love, so I was telling her about some things in our past.”

Nanoha raised an eyebrow in confusion.

I like this, but I have to say that I think Yuuno giving in comes off as a little too abrupt, and it damages the flow a little. Earlier in the scene, when the narration is focused on him, how he feels about the stress of supporting Fate while keeping himself in check is made pretty clear, but once Fate becomes the focus, his own problems with the situation sort of fade into the background, making the quick shift back when you mention the dam breaking feel a little awkward.

By the way, excellent job writing Fate. Her side of things was really, really well done. I hope you'll write more of this soon.

I'm afraid I'm not following your argument. By "serious" I'm referring explicitly to the Runaway case, which you'll notice is differently titled from the normal Logs in that it's actually a Case File. The order is sporadic, I'll admit, but again, this was the result of the fact that we felt Nanoha and Fate were moving in terms of character development far too quickly, but we'd already started our work on the Runaway Case File and didn't want to drop it. So we pushed it up to February and used January as a "fill in the gap" to see how Fate and Nanoha operate under regular circumstances. It isn't so much out of order as it is filling in the gaps.

“When the moon's in the sky, like a big-a pizza pie, that's amore,” the portly Italian waiter sung, playing his accordion and moving around the small table.

The full moon was indeed high in the sky, as Nanoha and Fate watched him, eating from the same plate of spaghetti. They didn't even notice they were slowly slurping up the same noodle until their lips met suddenly, and there was a pause of a few brief moments as they gazed into each other's eyes.

Then they both blushed and quickly separated, while the waiter continued to sing his love song.

It really was like flying, Fate realized. She spread her arms out to either side, feeling the wind blow strongly from she stood on the very tip of the prow of the large boat. Behind her, she could feel Nanoha holding onto her so she wouldn't fall, and was glad the other girl had taken her up here for this.

Fate gasped as she grabbed and picked up, long flowing dress and all. “What do you think you're doing!?”

“What does it look like?” Nanoha told her, a bit drunk, as she took another step on the staircase.

“It looks like you're going to take me to bed!” Fate protested, upset. “Have you not considered my feelings?”

“Frankly, Fate-chan,” Nanoha replied, in an even voice as she continued to ascend the stairs. “I don't give a damn.”

The pair headed for the bedroom, over Fate O'Hara's protests.

Fate Testarossa's favorite pasttimes were riding her horse and tormenting the farm girl that lived there. Her name was Nanoha, but she never called her that. Nothing gave Fate as much pleasure as ordering Nanoha around.

“Farm girl, polish my horse's saddle,” she ordered. “I want to see my face shining in by morning.

“As you wish,” Nanoha said simply. 'As you wish' was all she ever said to her.

“Farm girl, fill these with water,” Fate commanded, bringing two large buckets and setting them down, then added, “Please.”

“As you wish,” Nanoah replied.

That day, Fate was amazed to discover that when Nanoha was saying “As you wish,” what she meant was “I love you.” And even more amazing was the day she realized she truly loved her back.

“Farm Girl!” Fate commanded, as Nanoha was about to leave the room; she had to think of a reason to keep her here, then discovered it. “Fetch me that pitcher?”

Nanoha stepped over, right in front of Fate, the edges of her lips rising just a bit, as she reached up and plucked the object from it's hanger. “As you wish.”

“Nanoha?” Fate asked, fear creeping into her voice as she watched the horizon slowly light up. “What is it? Why are we out here at this time?”

The other woman sighed, slowly unbuttoning her shirt. “There's something I want to show you. The real reason, that no one else knows.”

Growing more fearful, Fate glanced back and forth as the first rays of sunrise streaked over the hills and through the trees, striking the woman she loved.

And her jaw dropped as Nanoha started to sparkle a rainbow of colors, glimmering in the sunlight.

“Do you hate me now?” Nanoha asked hesitantly, fear in her voice.

Fate answered by hugging and tackling the girl into the grass, tears in her eyes. “I could never hate you....”

They lay chastely in the meadow for a long time, basking in the love they had for each other.
