i doesn't pick up joshikousei vibe at all after going through the first 2 episodes. joshikousei have excessive panty shots and 'not so cute' character design, while doujin work is on different side. the only similarily, as mentioned, is dancing ED but there's couple of other show with dancing OP/ED as well.

i love it when a female cute otaku exists in the show. think of konata and nagi 99% that i will be continuing the series all the way to the end.

Ep 2

That was brilliant! Brilliant I say! I never thought they could have topped "Ojou-san, you dropped your porno manga" in this episode and yet somehow the did. This really looks to be shaping up to be a grand sitcom, which is great, since anime doesn't have enough sitcoms (and yet, ironically, American television has way too many).

I think everyone has noticed this, but what is that underwear thing doing in the anime, is there a point to it?

The beat goes on. I really enjoyed ep3. Asano Masumi and Saitou Momoko are doing great, and the character design and animation of expressions works very well for me. No Joshi Kousei vibes at all, for me. This is so much cuter and less gross.

I'm sure they're producing this on a shoestring -- for example, with Najimi flat/spinning on the way into the Big Site, with the blank background characters, and with the short duration. But they are also doing some nice animation when it counts -- or at least that's how it feels to me.

The similarities I see with High School Girls aren't superficial, since these anime deal with very different topics, it's more subtle and has to do with the humour styles, the situation comedy, the whole "the universe hates the characters" and the risque jokes that push boundaries, but have enough self-restraint to not go completely overboard. And both are very clever anime that a lot of people underestimate. Like I've said before, I really wish there were more sitcoms like these in anime, and it's particularly the ones that choose to unflatteringly deal with social taboos and backhand romanticism (like Doujin Work and High School Girls) are the ones that I find particularly refreshing.

Yeah, that's exactly the parallel I'm seeing. Well, that and the general "girls behaving badly" slant - like Joshikousei, it's refreshing to see female characters with a good healthy streak of perversion (Najimi may still be in denial, but I have complete faith in Tsuyuri's ability to corrupt her).

As an example, I've been puzzling over Tsuyuri's voice-over at the end of ep1, where she says "I'd better go and prepare some osekihan [rice with red beans]. You were thinking of something strange just now, weren't you?" Then I looked up sekihan in Wikipedia and saw this:

Quote:
In some areas, it is made when a young woman has her menarche, suggesting another source of the tradition.
I don't know if that was the intended reference, but if it was then it's a joke Eriko and friends would be proud of.

I guess I'll have to go back and look at High School Girls again. I lost interest in it surprisingly quickly, considering the great seiyuu line-up. Much as I like "girls behaving badly," the humor of the anime just didn't reach me -- unlike Doujin Work, and even unlike the manga. The comparison of DWork to a US situation comedy is apt and interesting.

Episode 2 was cute, but tsuyuri continues to prove the only reason for me to watch heh.

One thing that struck me odd in the episode...In japan is it normal policy for the police to harass young women at night or something...

but i love najimi
the police stopped her because she was traveling at high speed...they then wanted to check her bag to make sure that there wasnt anything ilegal inside ~ random stuff like this happens so ill just say that najimi was unlucky to be caught speeding

Lol. Nevertheless, I get the feeling that Najimi loves the universe.

Watching and reading manga in parallel...anime version is worthless, each episode proves it more and more. I wont even bother naming each and every one of the jokes they decided to cut out, theres like a flood of them.

I see a rationale here. Do not read manga version of the anime you're currently watching. Or you'd end up comparing them down to the slightest details.
As I didn't read the manga, I more or less enjoy the show particularly because of a cute female otaku and the comiket.

Thats the thing, there are NO details, anime guys just cut off 70% of actual content !

For example, i immensely enjoy Lucky Star & Kekkaishi & Lovely Complex, all the while reading the according mangas.

you are being too picky thats why...as a given rule (to me anyway) its quite bad to read the manga before watching the series due to all the nit picking missed out parts you will come across (100% in any adaption) ~ as i see it the anime is awesome...havent read the manga but i will not be fussy with finishing this series before picking up the manga myself for full enjoyment and considering that each ep is only 13 mins i would say that they would be missing a lot of jokes out...but that is where the reading after comes in ~ so in time i can be shocked :O
