I kind of regret watching this. It had a good buildup but the ultimate payoff was extremely disappointing. S;G and even C;H were more interesting overall. Not sure whether all the blame can be assigned to butchering the source material though, some of these ideas just don't work.

In universe, it's originated from the Visual Rebuilding Technology(VR) of the Victor Condria University a decade ago, especially the process of extracting and converting memories into data developed by Kurisu. When Misaki killed Kimijima in his own apartment, he only converted part of himself for the testing of the system. He is "incomplete" in the words of AI Kimijima. Now he's unreasonable, unfeeling and ruthless. But that doesn't effect the project a bit, because personal feeling is unnecessary for its success. Completing the experiment is always the sole intention of Kimijima Kou, and nothing can ever change it. While he could of used the Noah device he built with data scavenged from the fallen project, he can slowly brainwashing others with mere suggestions. kimijima has been studying psychological warfare and brainwashing since he's young. His suggestions exist in Misaki's mind as whispering voices, not that appears on every screens shit in the anime. Also the look and tone of Kimijima are more sinister in the VN. His face is so twisted that you can’t possibly tell whether he’s smiling or crying most of the time, whereas in the anime, he’s just your average bishounen. They even omitted the fact that he killed Airi’s parent for his own amusement and a way to control her in ep 21. Like Norose before him, he's a true mad scientist.

There are a great deal of times you actually get into the head of Misaki, with all those psychological monologues. At one point she even questions herself if she’s Kimijima fitted with Misaki’s memory. When Aki finally recovered from her coma after the SS Anemone Incident, Misaki said she can die for seeing Aki’s smile again. She isolated herself from the ones she loved so that she can’t hurt them. In those ten years, she was fighting a losing battle against Kimijima alone, trying to kill herself only to be stopped by Kimijima every single time. But fate is so cruel that she intertwines with Kai and Aki again. All she wants is that they can kill her to end this nightmare once and for all. As we all know she got her happy ending in the hands of Kai, which she most deserved.

- Subaru's father -
Subaru and his fatehr had their time in the VN. The father even got some monologues on how he's depressed about his relationship with Subaru. Subaru got his fanaticism of robots from the toy robot that his father gave him at his birthday when he’s a kid. In the prelude novel it's revealed that when one day Subaru’s father met Kimijima, that sicko casually left suggestion in the father’s mind that slowly twisted his view on robots and his own son. He is so afraid that Subaru will eventually leave him due to his love of robots.

- The fate of Frau's mother -
It's still a mystery. Maybe it will be concluded in the on-going spinoff manga of Frau.

- The Committee of 300 -
Cliched evil organization? The Humanity Cattlization Project, to kill off 5 billion people is always their ultimate goal, first revealed in Chaos;head. With 1 billion left, they can easily manage the population and resources, in turn ensured the survival of humanity. Great achievement needs great sacrifices. Compared to Project Atum, the dystopia created by Program Zeta seems way mild. Most surely will see them as cruel monsters, but the Committee must think themselves the savior of humanity.

- Monopoles -
NASA’s Ulysses had already discovered the monopoles around the sun, but that info was concealed by the Committee. Kimijima uses that knowledge and instructs Geji-nee to emit electromagnetic radiation into the geomagnetosphere with the radar tower for many years, trying to pinpoint a perfect coordinate for him to detonate the BHB, and the monopoles are just a byproduct that indicates a success of the experiment. When Kai retrieves the 2nd report on Jul 31, he accidentally adjusted the antenna to the right direction. Monopoles start falling from the sky on Aug 11. It seems that the Committee will have a monoploy on the use of monopoles as a new energy source after the operation.

There are more I want to say. The original material is still decent. It just got fucked up by Hanada's hand of god awful.

This totally reminds me of the hate I have for Star Driver, which would have been 10 times better if they added all the background info that they had in their bible

So basically all the explanations and much of the storyline didn't make the transition to anime. Staring at the list of other shows where Hanada was head writer and how good some of them are, his failure here is shocking.

That's why he's being called Hanada the Psycho. He is too unstable to be trusted. Back in S;G, despite how great the anime was, it still got some pacing problem, and he further reduced the presence of Feiris and Rukako, even cutting the whole yandere Nae mini-arc. He did it again with Nae(arc gone again), Junna, Subaru and others in R;N. Guess he hates minor characters? And don't leaving holes all over the place unless you're going to explain them. That's not how you write a good story, Hanada. Just never let him handle any adaptation.

Suggestion IS a form of brainwashing. It just needs time to sink in, and its effect depends on the willpower of its victim. It's the same as propaganda, which is on a much larger scale. In a sense, Kimijima has achieved global brainwashing with his reports, if not only for a short period of time. While he can brainwash others with the Noah technology he has in hands, Kimijima prefers the power of words.

Misaki found Kimijima's smartphone which was installed with a prototype AI Airi. Misaki was about to sell it for quick cash, but Airi guided her to return it to its master. Misaki has been the victim of Kimijima's suggestions ever since they first met. One year later, after she killed Kimijima, Misaki had expected the police to arrest her for murder, but a month passed and nothing happened. She became paranoia and decided to return to Kimijima's apartment, only to find that the body was gone without a stain of blood. She wanted to confess to the police, but there was nothing to prove that she had murdered anyone. On one hand, she was relieved that no one would ever find out her crime. On the other hand, she was depressed with the fact that she had killed Kimijima. This drove her into a state of chaos. And the ghost of Kimijima striked her at that moment of weakness.

In the prelude novel, Kimijima has shown Mizuka the sleeping Airi at his basement. Mizuka was disgusted and hates Kimijima and his experiments ever since. It seems that she was the one who secretly moved Kimijima's body.

It seems that the Committee will have a monoploy on the use of monopoles as a new energy source after the operation.

There are more I want to say. The original material is still decent. It just got fucked up by Hanada's hand of god awful.

That's an awful lot of important explanatory stuff left out. Suddenly the R;N anime feels much worse to me than I originally thought.

It may not be as good as the game (which I still need to buy) and may have been cliched as hell but damn I loved Robotics;Notes the whole way through. Much like Steins;Gate, the anime made me go and buy them game which I then played through and it's not my favourite series of all time. Mages didn't dissapoint me again <3

Another major thing about people complaining about plot points, I see where you're coming from, but Robo anime in itself is just a massive pile of cliches and half the stuff doesn't make any sense, if it did, it wouldn't be science fiction anymore

I'm probably one of the biggest sci-fi fans that I know of and when you take into account the backstories and random explanations for the majority of sci-fi (heck even Steins;Gate and I love that series to bits) none of it really makes any sense in the long haul. Even Star Trek uses technical babble half the time to cover up completely ridiculous plot lines.

So about that stage play.

It has the actors/actresses for Captain Marvelous/Gokai Red (Ryota Ozawa) as Kai, Yoko Usami/Yellow Buster (Arisa Komiya) as Aki, and Kaito/Kamen Rider Diend (Kimito Totani) as Subaru. It's like Super Hero War all over again. The rest of the cast looks nice, too, but I recognize those three.

I apologise for the bump but Robotics;Notes has finally been announced for a console other than the PS3/360. I can't wait to get my hands on the newly announced vita version and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the other arcs end. Good news for importers and fans of the series atleast.

I don't know where to begin:

The good:
*It had a slow start but there was some sort of charm that pulled me in and I can't quite explain why. I'm not a mecha fan (I love Xenogears and Full Metal Panic, I only watched Code Geass for its unintentional comedy but you won't see me follow Gundam) and if a mecha show convinces me to watch it, it must have had done something right.

* Kimijima report? Some sort of conspiracy? Why the hell not?


The bad:
* I wonder if it's a VN thing but the whole robot rebellion was strange. They weren't even threatening humans in the first place. :/

* That whole Hero of Justice speech Aki gave was just mind boggling. This is where S;G did something similar but at the same time better; sure, Okabe would go into his mad scientist rants but the villains in his game aren't going to stand around and let him finish his speech; instead, they beat the shit out of him.

* The monopole macguffins. I wish they went into detail on what they are and where the came from. I almost forgot about them until someone here brought them up again.

* Speaking of macguffins, what's the deal with Kai and Aki's spasms? Kai, I understand because of ZA WARUDO and such but Aki's was given a few moments of explanation and never appeared again (it's not as debilitating as it appears?)

* Speaking of macguffins again, I still did not understood the deal with Kagome Kagome or why it's suppose to be terrifying.

*I felt like Mizuka's character was completely wasted.

* And back to the conspiracy again. Committee of 300? I like the idea but the execution just felt rushed. I got the whole mass panic thing but was the whole "send in the secret army" necessary?

I don't know what else to write, I'm never good at these things. I enjoyed the show while it lasted but from what I'm reading I feel like I'm missing out on a lot. Oh well, guess I'll have to wait for a PC release.

I agree, as much as I like to see childhood friends end up together in this anime it just didn't work, Frau was a way better choice from what I saw throughout the anime.
