Anime Fashion Disasters
Now, anime is filled with wacky styles, but has it ever gotten so bad where it actually impacted how you viewed a character?
I made this thread, because I suddenly remembered about Yuji (the male lead in Shana). He's mostly a standup guy, but in season 3, he looks like Spoiler:
And I could no longer take him seriously anymore. I mean, for anime standards, it's not really that outlandish, but the change in his look while having a point in the plot just made me laugh every time I saw him. So for better or for worse, it didn't work. Another example would be the titular Nanoha from Nanoha StrikerS. This is a lesser case, because while she remains cool, the problem is she's still wearing those childish ribbons in her barrier form, which leads me to consistently think "Yo, you're not 10 anymore!" Also, this seems to apply whenever someone gains an eyepatch like this guy: https://dragonaut.fandom.com/wiki/Kazuki_Tachibana though he's borderline as nothing in that show could be taken seriously. And then there's Rebuild of Evangelion.... Of course if the character started with an eyepatch, I don't seem to mind. And then there are those arbitrary "haircut" moments that seem really overused, but I'm biased towards long hair, so YMMV. Also, if a style change had a positive effect, feel free to bring that up too.

Archer from Fate Stay Night looks fucking stupid. There I said it.
Also a post from Baby Steps. Also remember Star Driver where all the women dress like strippers.

There was some context to why Yuji ended up looking like a Chinese general. The long hair was supposed to be the "tail" that serves both defensive and offensive functions, while the armor was a separate Treasure Tool called Bakuyagai.
As for the topic, there are a lot of characters in mind, particularly people who likes belts too much.

Well, let me see.
*Shingo Araki's Andromeda Shun This is a man but covered in a pink armor with exception of his crotch. Guess who was Saint Seiya character that everybody made fun of as kids? *Train from Black Cat I guess it's supposed to be a Western based outfit but it's ridiculous. Feels like something Dante from Devil May Cry would throw to the trash. Then for some reason Araki started making some really weird costumes for his Jojo characters ever since Part 4. Giorno and Bruno must be the weirdest but it could take forever
