Finally managed to find time fully watching the first episode. Not really wow me (except the awesome armor design) but I do find it enjoyable. Seeing Garo in old western era was quite refreshing in comparison of modern Japan all tokusatsu seasons played on. Makes me wonder if we'll ever get Garo in old Japan, samurai or ninja-themed Garo sounds good, though we have technically got ninja-themed Makai Knight with Crowe on Makai no Hana.

The only thing bugged me a little was when Zoro held baby Leon when he saved him. Wasn't Makai Knight armor (Soul Metal, or something?) is supposed to be harmful on human or something? I kinda remembered Kouga said this to Kaoru on the first season. Maybe because there was that green barrier thing covering baby Leon, or maybe it was just my memory playing trick on me

The only thing I missed is Zaruba didn't do the next episode narration like usual.

Man I'm kind of surprised this show hasn't grabbed more attention. To me it's been one of the better ones to start up this season. Just like kind of spot on in all areas it needs to be as a setup. Hopefully the rest of the show is as well executed.

Really liking this show so far- love the dark setting and Herman and Ema seem great characters. Hope to see more from Leon, but that will surely come in further eps.
Only thing that grates on my nerves is Mendoza's voice.

Found this blog entry that I think will be useful for new fans to get to know Garo world and its terminology.

If you haven't watch the tokusatsu version you can just skip the story chapter and just read the appendix. Especially appendix #1-5 and #7, because I doubt appendix #6 will be adapted, or even mentioned on the anime since even on the tokusatsu it only happened on one OVA.

But for older fans who have watched the tokusatsu (especially Saejima ones), the story here is quite interesting. It serves as epilogue for Kouga and prologue for Raiga.

I'm pretty sure that's deliberate. The guy doing him plays the villain part really well, in all honestly I kind of like the role here.

Speaking of Mendoza, his voice really reminds me of Caster from Fate/Zero sometimes. I was wondering if the seiyuus are the same but it turns out that's not the case (Caster = Satoshi Tsuruoka, Mendoza = Takaya Hashi). So I guess that's just how older seiyuu voice an evil magician. Interesting.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit disappointed. Zaruba only had a handful of lines in the episode and when he talked his mouth didn't move... I hope the remove the gag he has in the next episode.

On more agreeable news, a new red armored Makai Knight wielding a broadsword was shown in the opening narration and appears at the end of the episode to safe Alfonso from a band of Horrors...

I hope Leon gets better at his control during fighting since I don't think he mastered his abilities completely yet. He probably will as the story goes on. Zaruba is also awesome imo.

Kinda curious what other role the prince will play in this series later on as well...as he is quite an interesting character.

like the episode, it look like Leon manage to control himself better and really like Zaruba even if he only got a little screen time, Emna seem awesome too, about the new knight I really like his entrance, I'm guessing that he will be some kind of mentor to Alfonso and maybe Alfonso will inheritance his armor.

Overall, good episode. Yeah, Zaruba only got minimal screentime but that’s ok. Liking that red/scarlet/violet(?) Makai Knight. He looks awesome, but seriously, if later on Alfonso gets his own armor and it’s in green, blue or black, we might as well call this series “Garanger”

I think all these riders, garoos and rangers are related and inspired by each others. So It's not realy suprising.

Well, Riders and Rangers come from the same guy, Shotaro Ishinomori, who supposedly based them on his manga Skull Man and Cyborg 009 respectively.

Out of a dozen anime I've followed since this season began: Only Garo, Shingeki no Bahamut, and Fate/Stay (a given) I will continue to follow after this week as they're the only ones I've liked.

I love the OST in this anime.

No, really, I was disappointed they didn't use the original narration.

The episode was good. It was nice to see Zaruba and classic horrors. I hope Zaruba will get to talk more in future episodes.

Also, unless you're a titled Knight - like Garo, Zero, Dan, etc... - then all you got is a simple suit of armor.

Check episode 23 of Makai Senki, where literally a bunch of mook knights show up to fight the Horrors army.

Marcello was quite dumb if he didn't learn in all the 16 years that the ring won't work for him.

Also, how comes that the old alchemist didn't sense that horror was talking out if his candles? Well, maybe because he's old and was busy at the moment...

Still, Ema is the best! What does she want with Leon/Garo?

And now that he got Zaruba - who got his original voice actor too, YES! - he can control it more easily. Really loving Ema though. THat's one crafty lady. And that third knight. I hope he's a good guy, if a bit anti heroi-ish like Zero was. The purple color kind of doesn't work though. Preview for ep 4: ...
