Recommend me action sci-fi animes from the 80s and 90s

So far I have watched:

Space Battleship Yamato (all seasons and movies)

Space Runeaway Ideon

Super Dimension Century Orguss (all seasons)

Armored Trooper Votoms (all TV Shows, OVAs, movies)

The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (most of the good ones)

Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross

Tekkaman Blade (all seasons)

Combat Mecha Xabungle (watching it right now)

Blue Comet SPT Layzner (watched most of it, waiting for the last episode to be subbed)

Round Vernian Vifam

Blue Gender

Gunbuster

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and ZZ

Panzer World Galient (started watching it, never finished it though)

Aura Battler Dunbine (started watching it, watched almost all of the episodes, never finished it though)

Fang of the Sun Dougram (started watching it, watched only a couple episodes)

Havent watched that one, only tried an episode and it seemed to be one of these shows where there is very little action and its just characters talking to one another, kinda like Game of Thrones, except in space? Is that how it is?

Outlaw Star is highly recommended. Really fantastic archetypal sci-fi anime.

If you like comedy, slice-of-life of police officers, politic-heavy (sometimes) and slow-burn mecha anime, you can try Mobile Police Patlabor series:

Watch it in the following order so that you don't get confused:
  • Movie continuity:
  1. Patlabor OVA (also called Patlabor: The Early Days): 7 episodes
  2. Patlabor: The Movie
  3. WXIII: Patlabor the Movie 3
  4. Patlabor 2: The Movie
  • TV continuity:
  1. Patlabor TV series: 47 episodes
  2. Patlabor OVA 2 (also called Patlabor: The New Files): 16 episodes

More Gundam series if you're interested
Gundam series:
MS Gundam: The 08th MS Team
MS Gundam 0080
MS Gundam 0083
MS Victory Gundam
G Gundam
Gundam Wing
Gundam X
Turn-A Gundam

Oh, and please finish Aura Battler Dunbine. You owe it to yourself .

Thanks I have seen that title listed on anidb before, problem is I would have most probably watched it by now, however there is no english subs available? There is only 12 episodes subbed out of 48... The only other option available is the HK release subs which are of questionable quality...

I tried to like it but and I found it to be quite alright, it just failed to grab my interest.

I’m not sure which sub I had back then when I watched it. Maybe it’s the HK sub , maybe not. But from what I recall, the English sub is decent. I might be wrong though. I’ll send you a PM in case you want a link.

One usually doesn't mention that when asking for science fiction, lol... Don't tell me you don't like Firefly.

I don't really like "wild west" either but it doesn't stop me from liking anything that's not quite entirely NOT something you'd might see John Wayne in... (sorry for the convoluted sentence lol)

I don't consider Outlaw Star a wild west setting by any means.

Battle athletes victory. It's not like any of the shows listed since its a wacky comedy with drama but it fits 90s and sci fi. I enjoyed immensely because it was fun to watch. Try 5 eps and decide for yourself

Why not?

Outlaw Star might not be as Wild West focused as Wild Arms games, but they are at least on par with this manga:

And this anime:

I second Outlaw Star, and I wouldn't consider it a western.

Martian Succesor Nadesico

I only watched a single Patlabor movie (1, I think) and it was great.

Any Gundam you are lacking (don't know about Wing, and X was so-so)
