Koharu has an impressive talent of being so cheerful while also saying things that could really make her enemies in a hurry. An interesting mix of cheerful while also being unintentionally (I think) rude.
Second episode was admittedly less good. Hiyori's personal drama did carry that first episode as terrible as that is to say. Obviously need to build up the cast though. And wow...Koi's father actually sucks. I'm amazed his wife hasn't divorced him. Although I guess she'd be stuck as a single parent since that guy would probably crash his business if left alone and wouldn't be contributing at all. Considering his obsession I'm kind of surprised he got married at all or that Koi even exists...

As for this third episode, this latest episode's combination of discussing what makes family was a valuable one and, in conjunction with the bit of camping and meal preparation, sets the table for a further presentation of how everyone's going to grow this season as a result of the sum of their time together. Now that we're three in, I'm going to continue holding the stance that any psyc or phil isn't going to work well with breaking down Slow Loop: small details like names and Koharu running her mouth at times isn't going to negatively impact the overarching themes in this series, and I have noticed that with past Manga Time Kirara works, some folks have relied a too heavily on small details to gauge the characters' future actions, to the point of forgetting that Manga Time Kirara series typically show personal growth through cultivating diverse interpersonal relationships – minor individual flaws here and there, if they are detrimental to a noticeable extent, end up being things the characters work on and eventually improve upon.

I wasn't expecting Koharu to have an even more tragic backstory than Hiyori. When we saw pictures of her little brother, my first thought was that the mother must have custody, but it turned out he and the mother are both dead. Koharu being so happy telling stories about them really threw me off. Such a strong girl.
Koharu feeling uncomfortable with Hiyori's mother was also unexpected. The show first presented her as the genki airhead but she's much more than that.

Casting a line at a human got things off to a very bad start; great slice of life shows like Kiniro Mosaic and Non Non Biyori never needed anything so unnatural.
This initial absurdism and the simplistic moeblob art clashed heavily with the emphasis on information, which pushed out any very distinctive development of the two girls' friendship in the first part of the episode. Laid Back Camp had plenty of info on camping, but spread out, rather than in an infodump. The cute girls show has a wider target audience than the hobby-based show, so it would have made more sense to work on the girls' friendship rather than do two things at once that don't effectively support each other. They certainly need to work on distinguishing the girls from all the other genki-girls and stoic moes in existence; a difficult task. The blonde girl's audience surrogate role with fishing trivia wasn't any help with her developing distinctive character. Have no reason to watch. Last edited by Ghostfriendly; 2022-01-22 at 07:46. |

While Laid Back Camp and Encouragement of Climb managed to successfully combine hobby and cute girls shows, they did so by spreading out information, giving us characters we could care about first, and with travel through excellent background scenery. This gave an excellent sense to those shows of young people learning and journeying through a fresh and beautiful world. The backgrounds in Slow Loop aren't absolutely bad, with some decent skies, but comparatively plain and mediocre, which is another serious drawback for this sort of series.

Didn't make it past ep 1; possibly the backgrounds get better, though the characters getting better is less likely. Starting on a concrete pier perhaps wasn't the best idea. I thought the comparison between this show and successful cute girls with hobbies shows merited a very little more consideration.

Manga Time Kirara series will vary greatly in terms of whether or not they work out. The unqualified successes work because they keep interpersonal interactions simple and excel in presenting one topic, whereas series with a little more focus on drama will be more hit-and-miss depending on the person. Historically, because anime usually turn out, one's initial reaction on episode one will likely remain consistent with one's reaction at the finale.

This one was more mundane than the previous episodes, but still enjoyable. Koi getting caught trying to get pampered by her mom was gold. Hiyori in a maid outfit wasn't too bad a moment either.
