Champion RED is not a seinen magazine, but a shounen manga magazine. Amazon Japan sucks :P (its reliable many times but not always) any manga that comes from Champion RED magazine is mentioned by the publisher (Akita Shoten) to be a shounen manga.

Yeah, every manga that comes from Champion RED magazine is according to the publisher a shounen manga.

Shigurui manga, a very bloody manga (which has an anime currently broadcasting), is also a manga from Champion RED, and every single manga volume is mentioned as shounen manga by the publisher

Shounen is not a genre, but a demographic categorization. Therefore, a yuri series can perfectly be shounen (or shoujo).

I've read all the bits of manga I can find. I've read several different stories, none of which is the one in the anime. All the Blue Drop stories concern the invasion of Earth by a race of aliens who are all female humanoids. Various stories take place at different times during this process.

Spoiler for basic story of the Blue Drop universe:

A huge blue ship called Blue is the vanguard of an invasion of Earth. The ship has an accident that disables it, and it goes into hiding. The crew and the inhabitants of the island where it landed fight a vicious, all-out war that leaves all the humans dead except for one young girl.

Eventually, the invasion succeeds, largely owing to a weapon that focuses people's thoughts and manifests them physically. This was originally a toy, but was made into a weapon that amplified only fears. The vast destruction caused by this leaves big areas churned up and formed into solidified mountains of nightmare images.

Later stories take place a thousand years after the invasion. The aliens and their agents are in control. Earth is quite liveable, but has been kept at its original technological level. The aliens are highly libidinous women who have a private street that men are not allowed to enter. There they have bars that are basically for yuri group sex among humans and aliens. The men end up with their own similar street, with boys cross-dressing to take the place of girls, whom the aliens have drawn away.

The anime story takes place four years after Blue's landing. The captain of the disabled Blue has assumed a disguise and has become a student at a private residential girls' school. In fact, she is the student council president. Then the only girl to survive the war on the island four years before between humans and the crew of Blue is sent there as a student....

There are various manga, all of which take place well after the invasion has succeeded. In one, a girl loses her best friend -- who has been the subject of experiments on creating immunity to the thought-amplification weapon -- when she is assimilated (voluntarily) by "sea-men," creatures formed by association of millions of tiny alien bio-weapons in the sea. In another, a half-breed who has joined the human resistance saves another girl who has been subject of these experiments and there is a complicated romance amid adventures of escaping the authorities. In another, a boy opens his door to find a beautiful girl there, who asks him to have sex. It turns out that the beautiful girl is his (male) best friend, who has been transgendered by the aliens and commanded to get pregnant. This is the story of the manga whose cover is shown in the previous post.

The mangas are different combinations of science-fiction, relationship, and yuri fanservice.

The mangaka says the anime project began a year and a half ago with coinversations among the producer, the mangaka, and the director. The mangaka, Yoshitomi Akihito, describes the director, Ohkura Masahiko, as a genius. The director's previous anime was Battle Fairy Yukikaze, about an AI-controlled fighter plane used in Earth's war against invading aliens whom Earth forces have confined to a planet at the other end of the aliens' wormhole invasion route. I've only seen one episode, and it is slow, but intense and realistic, with good battle scenes and interesting evolution of feelings between the pilot and his commander and between the pilot and the AI.

I had a gut feelings this will be an interesting series to look forward to, and it seems I won't be disappointed after reading those brief synopsis that are posted above by Kaoru. I really hope the series will push for some of these stories in the anime.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one. My stomach tells me that with a bit of luck, BD will turn out to be excellent. Somehow, the vibes from the PV were quite convincing. Serious, non-comedy, non-moe Yuri drama with a bit of sci-fi action in the background?

I bet the mangaka was inspired by Stephen King's It. And even if she didn't that sounds quite interesting.
