World of Cultivation is the tale of a disgruntled young man and his quest to be the best farmer he can be, at least if it wasn’t for those annoying people who keep getting in the way of his pursuit of agricultural excellence.

Will conspiring forces turn him into a sword cultivator, or will he manage to throw off the shackles of fate and grow the best darn crops in the sect? Those air-headed cultivators dream of too much nonsense and don’t know how to live properly, they need to get a real job to earn some jingshi for a living like a normal person.

This story has a slow pace and lots of build ups and world building, it starts with the MC as a farmer in the outer sect of a small country which is really refreshing compared to the all present focus on fighting of other stories, the first chapters are all about establishing the personality of the MC as an honest and (just a little) greedy worker who wants nothing but to live a good life making tons of money with his hard work

His most outstanding characteristic is his rigid face that doesnt move and looks like a zombie and the fact that he has no memories before he was found by the master of the sect, when he learns that his face and memories were altered by some powerful expert he aims to discover his past but that is a goal long in the future and he has it clear that the culprit may be someone incredibly powerful so all his ambition is to learn about his past to be at peace, at the moment there are no oats of revenge or stuff like that

The MC is the pinnacle of practicality and only learns stuff that can be useful, if it were for him he would never learn any combat arts and remain as a production cultivator but the world throws danger after dangers at him and he has no choice but to become powerful


Is there a harem?

Nope, there are some women there and there but the MC has more important goals at hand, like surviving the next fight or the next battle or getting money for the daily expenses of his people but there are close interactions with a couple of women and some general interaction with other women

There is a little girl on the same sect who is some years younger that the MC, they become acquainted after he helps her with her weed problem (as in magic weeds killing her plants)

The most outstanding characteristic of this girl is that she is on the verge of crying ALL THE TIME and specially when the MC talks to her, first because she is afraid of his face and later because she asks him for guidance in her training and she is afraid of being reprimanded

She is cute waifu material, she cooks him, fed his animals when he is out and cleans his house, she seems to have a crush on the MC but she also seems to be unaware of it, the MC gifts her his spare equipment and is overall a good sempai to her

A Gui (Little Ghost)

A mysterious woman who appears out of nowhere full of wounds, she never talks and has some kind of power that makes her powerful but damages her body, her body is full of scars except for her feet that are described as extremely beautiful which hints to her being a beauty before being scarred

She always stays next to the MC and uses a mask he gives her, when she is in danger the MC feels the desire to protect her and she also seems to have a desire to protect him, she is the only clue the MC has about his past

Ceng Lian'er aka Snake Girl

A really pretty girl from the Mo territories, she has snake genes

The MC accidentally heals her by giving her a part of his energy and they are compatible for dual cultivation because she practices moon powers and he practices sun powers, the problem is that their specific kind of powers bind their lives together so if one of them dies so does the other

Because of this the snake girl decides to follow the MC to make sure he doesnt die, they practice dual cultivation by meditating next to each other so no snu snu

This girl is very reasonable, as she realizes that the MC has an actual plan to develop his power and faction she just goes along training with him and fighting at his side, not bitchy, not cute but pretty, calm and collected she is a good ally

Princess Xia

A daughter of an important family from the Mo territories, this girl is hot as fuck and traditionally the role of a girl titled as princess is to make alliances by marriage and the MC gets a lot of recognition among the Mo so an alliance by marriage is not totally out of the question

Princess Xia has swan genes so her body is slender and elegant but also full of voluptuous curves (she gives me an air of One Piece girls) and has tons of admirers trying to get her attention, because of this she gets a good impression of the MC because he doesnt try to show off

Regular guy: "it doesnt matter if this enemy is strong, i will keep fighting for the princess recognition!"
MC: "Whoa, this guy is too strong for me, hey princess: do you have a secret door i can use to escape?"

Regular guy: "dont worry princess i will risk my life fighting this guy!"

Princes Xia is cunning and calculating but as she realizes the MC has no interest in power games she becomes friendly and they really connect, the MC almost develops a crush on her and she almost develops a crush on him and they get along as really good friends, she doesnt mind that the MC is checking her out all the time and shows off her body on purpose, also she is really amused by the survivalistic and practical way of the MC as opposed to the formal customs of society

Li Ying Feng

A woman from the same sect as the MC, she levels up and enters the inner sect before him and they develop a cordial relationship after he supports the female disciples she used to support when she was in the outer sect, when the MC levels up and becomes an inner sect disciple she sells the stuff he produces and manages the loans from the sect

The Crane Girl

In this story people can send messages in paper cranes and this girl keeps sending messages to the MC, she is powerful and very skilled in magic so she also sends explosive cranes to him because she is bored, she only appears in the beginning but is hinted that she will appear later

Hot women with seduction magic

The crane girl sends an illusion attack to the MC and he gets trapped in a place where he sees hot women, after this incident he remembers the feeling and can detect when a woman is using alluring magic which is a practice relatively common among sexy women because it enhances their natural charms to the point they can distract enemies in the middle of battle or make men fawn over them, he gets angry on the spot and beats the shit out of them

Sometimes the MC thinks those women are using charm magic because they are just that hot

Kinda, first he is an OP magic farmer because farmers have a set of five spells for farming and every spell has many levels, the regular farmer knows around one spell at second level and the MC knows three at the third levels

Later when he starts practicing combat abilities he gets OP in the traditional way but still then his production skills are key to many moments of survival, i will explain more in the next comments

The power levels seen so far are:

Every level is stronger than the previous one but from level 4 the level is way stronger than the previous one to the point that it was said they could not be defeated by numbers alone... they do get defeated by numbers all the time so its proven wrong but it requires an elite squad of at least 500 with flawless team work to take down an enemy of an upper level


The sect

The MC belongs to the Wu Kong sect, a sword sect with some history that has been on the decline for a while but in the previous generation there are four elders in Jindan level (one Jindan is the standard for a small sect) so they are fated to go on the rise if they find suitable disciples and that is why the try to force the MC to become a sword cultivator

The four elders are one same voice most of the time so there is not much to say about them, in the sect it is possible to join by becoming an outer sect disciple and doing jobs like farming or taking care of the animals, once someone reach level 2 level that person becomes an inner sect disciple, if someone shows outstanding talent they can become core disciples

Wei Sheng

Your traditional MC material, hot blooded, pure hearted, nice guy with a lot of talent and loves the sword (no homo)

He starts as an outer sect disciple and becomes friends with the MC, his character doesnt changes that much and trains all the time, he is the kind of genius that shocks everyone in the tournaments and the sempai everyone can go to ask for guidance

He has thick plot armor and get the typical power ups of a xianxia MC: hot blooded breakthrough, ancient weapon found by chance, training arc, lone wanderer, young master enemies, the only thing he lacks are beauties throwing themselves at him but as he is offscreen for long periods there may be some

Second Not-Really-Bro

When the story starts he is a core disciple and is the arrogant Young Master type even if he is not really a young master, after Wei Sheng surpasses him he vents his frustration of fighting the MC and gets defeated again, after this he realizes he has been an asshole and once again trains with dedication an love for the sword... maybe too much love (see the spoiler below for details), he is not seen that much after the initial arc but later he makes a comeback and fulfills the weeaboo golden dream

The Spirit Teacher

No xianxia can be complete without the MC having a plot device that makes him able to go toe to toe against the geniuses of the world, the problem is that his spirit teacher is an asshole that abuses him and robs him of his money on a regular way

As many other spirit teachers this guy called Pu Yao is weak and needs a host to survive but all his knowledge comes with a price and most of the time with unwanted side effects, the MC has to haggle for any spell or technique he needs and Pu only collaborates if is clear that he cant get more money unless he helps the MC

Later on Pu realizes that his power is depleting faster than expected so he decides to actively help the MC but they still play mind games to insult and scam each other even if just a little for their amusement

A good touch is that as Pu has been sealed for 3000 years some of his knowledge is outdated and from time to time the stuff he sells to the MC doesnt work or works but is not that useful, in those times the MC will demand a reimbursement and remember it to mock him later on

Pu is prideful and the MC just cant understand how OP he was in his prime so he is satisfied later on the story when he can finally land his hands on new students even if he is still spirit bound to Zuo Mo

After Zuo Mo becomes a little stronger Pu gets the idea of experimenting with him and sells him some power ups that may or may not be compatible with his body... For Science!!!

"Hey, this is a cool meditating technique... are you already practicing? good, but if you dont reach a basic amount in one month your body will shut down"

"Hey, this is a good body upgrade, i installed it when you were not looking... it may make you explode but dont mind me"

Pu Yao is not alone and from the very beginning we know that the gravestone he is always sitting on top of is also alive but only until later it wakes up and then Zuo Mo has TWO spirit teachers trying to convince him to do things their way for their own reasons

The two of them are opposed most of the time so they try to gain the upper hand each over the other, if the two spirits are fighting Zuo Mo can get techniques cheaper than usual, if one spirit is fighting with Zuo Mo the other spirit can sell him techniques more expensive than usual

Our MC doesnt like fighting and his main strength lies in making formations (magic circles and the likes), farming and medicine making but hen he finds the Spirit Teacher and the "help" he gets from him makes the elders think he is talented with the sword, after this our MC will be pushed to train and fight with strong people when he would rather be earning money with his production skills

His attachment to money is pretty amusing and his talent with magic formations makes his elders go crazy as the think he is wasting his "genius-level" talent with the sword

The elders force him to enter a tournament despite him being in level 2 and the tournament being for level 3s, instead of honing his sword skills he wins by bombarding his opponent with magic objects (called talismans in this story) and one single sword attack with all of his power, everyone is shocked but the elders know that his sword has not improved anything and he just relied on formations to power up his sword attack

And then:

The elders force him to attend the second phase of the tournament (which he only manages to get in because his opponent for the second fight of the first phase was absent) and warn him to get one of the top ten spots or he will feel their wrath, all of this on the hopes to force him to practice the sword out of desperation

The thing is that the tournament was pretty big and to this point the 100 participants were the best of the best and all of them were one level above the MC so even if he trained like crazy he could not defeat even the weakest of them, to make it worse the tournament was a battle royal in a forest so there were no rules to hide behind them so the MC makes a gigantic spell formation (that drained him out of all his money... the pain!!!) and accidentally blows up a lot of the participants which impresses the viewers but facepalms his elders as he again improved his formations when he was supposed to improve his sword

AND THEN:

The elders make a gigantic formation full of sword energy and throw the MC there for some months to force him to comprehend the sword energy by being cut by thousands of sword energies everyday, they drop supplies in different safe zones so the MC has to walk from one place to another every day facing the sword energies, the only way to get our of the formation was to comprehend the power of the sword...

Instead of that he comprehends the formation and manages to get out without learning the power of the sword so the elders just gave up on him, which he gladly accepts

From the first chapters we know that a war is coming and when it finally breaks the MC gets separated from his sect and has to become actually OP in order to survive

A point of originality is that the MC is not the lone roamer many other xianxia MCs are, as he soon realizes that he cant survive in the war by himself he starts gathering allies and eventually makes a compact force which he nurtures until they become a small army

Because at the first arcs he is in his sect all the time and later he is with his mini army all the time there are plenty of relationships formed and they have an actual weight in the story unlike many other xianxia were the MC levels up and leaves everyone behind while he goes to search for more glory, the secondary characters also have their own path of strength and all of them are useful in the mini army


A part of the story i find really amusing is that at the beginning the MC is the lowest of the lowest so he speaks politely to other people but inside of his mind he refers to himself as "Ge", which is a respectful form of saying "I", he does that to keep his self respect because he is steamrolled by authority or power from time to time, when he becomes more important he finally calls himself "Ge" in public

The World

This story uses a pretty cool concept of worlds which are more like bubble worlds, the countries are called Jie and consist of a landmass surrounded by a void (which has turbulence so it may not be a void) those Jie are connected to each other by huge rivers which are the only safe natural entrance to every Jie

It is possible to make teleport formations from one Jie to another and you need a formation on every side, it is also possible to teleport blindly into another Jie but if its not done right they may end up in the void where the turbulence will destroy them

The size of the Jie determines the amount of natural resources it has and the quality of them so the big sects are all in the biggest Jie, when the story starts the MC is in a small Jie almost in the frontier

While there are natural energies in every Jie it is possible to alter them in a deliberate or accidental way to suit the needs of the inhabitants as the enemy does


The Enemy

The humans are at war with a faction called Yaomo who are said to be evil monsters who feed on humans, actually they are two species, the Yao which are born from natural energies and plant energies, they mostly cultivate mental powers the other faction are the Mo, which evolve from magical beasts and mostly cultivate body strength

The yaomo do feed on humans as their bodies are tasty and a good source of energy but the humans also hunt yaomo to refine their bodies into medicines, weapons and all kind of useful stuff so they are at war to consume each other

The spirit teacher is a Yao, which is the reason Zuo Mo never reveals his existence to anyone because he fears he will be killed when other people try to extract the yao and refine him into some kind of treasure

Bloody Sky Metropolis Jie

4000 years ago humans were at war with the yaomo and it lasted for a whole millennia, the humans were victorious and captured many powerful yaomo to refine them into useful stuff but the war ended because the strongest yaomo sacrificed themselves to create a zone were the humans could not absorb energy from the environment and thus were forced to retreat once they ran out of power

In the 3000 years after that humans constantly attacked Bloody Sky Metropolis to hunt for yaomo and while they were still unable to absorb energy they just had to go prepared with energy medicines and energy stones, the story starts with news that the yaomo are regaining the area and later they are able to advance while they use their method to make other Jie unsuitable for humans

Bloody Sky Metropolis Jie is actually composed of more than 50 Jie of medium and small size

The MC

Zuo Mo is not a paladin of justice and is all about being practical, he doesnt reject the yaomo as long as they dont attack him and gets along with some yao later in the story, he may be scared when he is weak and small but he soon understands that both sides have personal interests and there is no good or evil per se, all he cares is about his survival and the well being of his people
