The New Gate series is getting an anime adaptation

Plot

I think I read this so long ago that I didn't even put a date in my link. Is this the story that started with his follower that was dressed as a maid?

I have no idea why I stopped reading it. I liked how it started but I have no clue how it went later.

I'm not surprised this got an anime but...

I liked the beginning story but it got lost later, throwing in one Big Bad after another as light novels often do since the creator didn't really have the plot properly thought out when they started writing (see also Shield Hero...). The first season will probably be worth watching.

I am looking forward to seeing Wilhelm animated, I enjoy grumpy-but-good characters more than the nicey-nicey types.

The New Gate was one of the first "stuck in a VR game" chestnuts outs there so it is in fact old but back in 2014 it was a surprisingly fresh idea. It's more like Overlord than SAO though, the protagonist appears in a world similar to the game after it is shut down when he defeats the death-game final boss.

It's... actually kind of interesting even if the MC is a dollar store Kirito, and the premise feels 5 years out of date. I'll give it another episode anyway.

New Gate was never masterpiece and it obviously took lot of cues from SAO and Overlord, but anime transforming 20+ adult man with plenty of life experience into awkward teenager, who is no longer just inspired, but straight up plagiarize Kirito, certainly doesn't do it any favor. Considering SAO is no longer even relevant (I think), it's at bare minimum very baffling decision on anime team part.

It doesn't help that Schnee also seemed to get few hundreds years agelift...

Anything but that! Even having incestuous sister/cousin would be better option. Well, irc there is neither in NG. It has actually quite likeable heroines.

they skipped what made sword art online good and transported kirito to the sequel of the game but this time it's real.

nothing special but there is something, I don't know what it is but is something that let me finish the chapter. Let's see the next one.

Frontier Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2013	Spoiler: What if Alfheim Online was a Death Game like SAO? Only instead of being ended by Kirito, it was ended by swordsman in black and red named Shin voiced by Kensho Ono? Only he wasn't as lucky as his fellow humans in logging out of the game and got ported 500 years into the game worlds' future! Dude deserved better after beating the Final Boss...though at least he got his stats boosted ? I guess it's a pre-requisite for a fantasy protagonist to save a girl from danger, be it being kidnapped by men or a giant boar monster. Of course no better excuse to save them than their being a busty elven cutie voiced by Kaede Hondo ! Tiera is obviously suspicious of Shin because he seems as confused about his current situation as she's confused by him, though his intentions are pure and what was common currency for him is now vastly more rich now. And he also has a history with her master, the High Elf Schnee (Asami Seto!) . Tiera is also cursed with her dark hair which draws monsters to her and caused her no end of grief...so the least Shin can do (especially after getting an eyeful of her chest) is purify her and bring back at least a sliver of her old white hair, which is enough for her to be eternally grateful. Especially now that she can see the world again . So like do those twin guild girls work everywhere? Is this an Officer Jenny/Nurse Joy situation ? Get a simple letter of introduction and now you're already a big deal! Just a day in the life of a fantasy MC ! Seems like even the monsters have changed after 500 years, where the beginner area in a normal RPG now has a high level monster...though even with a cheaper sword, Shin is able to defeat it. Even if he also sent the sword flying through a busty military officials window in the process. I'm sure that won't come back to bite him ! __________________
