Well why not? I doubt they served him wines or such in Impel Down.

He has normal human body functions and he needs to drink, sure he can dry moisture with his right hand but he can drink and eat like any other person.

Ah thanks. That clarifies a lot for me.

It was bothering me how phonetically similar Oz and Oars Jr. were, in addition to their similar appearance. The funny thing is, the katakana reading of Oz is exactly the same. So that big guy is actually Oz Jr., which would make a lot more sense since they look very much alike.

Is it possible that the scanlations I've been reading mistakenly translated Oz to Oars?

Actually Oars is very likely a correct translation.

You can see Oars's ship in chapter 551.

We know its his ship because it has his head at the bow and a sail with 'OARS' written on it.

Its also the largest ship of the fleet, fitting the world's largest giant.

Maybe it's other way around where Oars is the correct translation and Oz isn't.
