Episode 1
Finally Clockwork Planet started but not in a good way. Good points: -VA's work is really good -Animation in general was okay, not terrible I must say. -Character introduction was on par with the manga version. -Backgrounds are great most of the time. Bad points: -The animation and CGI was disgusting on various scenes. -Character design is mostly fucked up, obviously they can't replicate the LN designs but there is no need to turn them into something ugly. -This was rushed, really rushed. Compared with the manga version is okay but looking at the LN version they skimmed through vol 1. -Sometimes the backgrounds were absolutely awful. I like clockwork planet quite a bit, but Xebec is not doing a good job with the adaptation and hopefully this improves a bit because this story don't deserve this kind of treatment. Even IMS can do better than this. Spoiler for RyuZU:

Episode 1:
Heh, they jumped right into the action with the episode without wasting much time. OP song is by fripSide which is pretty recognizable by their style. I think on most parts, the episode's has that techno intense feel and combined with elements of cyberpunk. Some of the concepts introduced in this show is interesting so far in particular the techo gears. RyuZU's character design is what I had expected and surprisingly, I think they got that CGI part right at least. Mixed thoughts on the first episode so I hope it improves. I just hope they make Naoto more likable as he doesn't seem like an impressive character to me yet. The fan service felt weird...

^It could be worse than that, I just want Xebec to stop rushing it.
On a side note, I'm laughing hard as hell thanks to comments on other places saying that rebuilding the earth and using the Gears as basis of the technology development in the world is stupid because of EMP attacks, is almost like they have no idea what EMP is and how that works LMAO. |

You call the backgrounds both great and awful. Here's the thing. We have words to describe when the overall experience is made of two extremes. When it isn't simply all good or all bad. Average, run-of-the-mill, milquetoast, decent, mediocre, mixed-bag. Pick one.

That was... weird.
I don't really know what this show is trying to be or who it's for? It's got what I think is an interesting premise/setting, and the music carries the scenes well. All of the voice work was good. And I like RyuZU's personality and design. But the rest felt rushed, looked ugly, and was needlessly awkward at times (i.e. the finger sucking scene, the gag with Marie sleeping nude, etc). Maybe if I'm bored I'll give it another episode or two? I also rather liked the ED (not a fan of the OP's visuals or song, personally).
