A television anime ofMysterious Joker(Kaitō Joker),Hideyasu Takahashi's caper action manga for children, has been green-lit. The wraparoundjacketband on the manga's 17th volume is announcing the anime on Friday. In the story, there is nothing in the world that the mysterious phantomthiefJoker cannot steal. He goes after one treasure after another in unpredictable capers with seemingly miraculous tricks. The anime will premiere this October on theTokyo MX TVandKIDS STATIONchannels.More detailswill be Shogakukan'sMonthly CoroCoro Comicmagazine. Takahashibegan the manga in Shogakukan'sBessatsu CoroCoro Comicmagazine in 2007, although it then moved to the mainMonthly CoroCoro Comicmagazine. The manga won the children's category of the 58th Shogakukan Manga Awards last year. **** Picked up by CR announcement and staff listing: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...-saying/.79568 **** Saw ep 01; and yes, definitely a "kid's series". Not that bad as a whole, though this sort of series is not really my thing others might enjoy it.

Episode 1 was pretty funny and more light-hearted. It's definitely not an adult series, but it was good.
On the other hand, it had blood... so I'm not really sure if it's actually a kid series or rather if it just LOOKS that way. |

While the amount of violence that's allowed in Children's television has been reduced, some networks still allow for stronger violence (NTV and TBS are notable two, though they have very few slots allocated during the day for this programming). Just because a show has some stronger violence, doesn't mean it's not intended for children. Although shows sometimes aim a little older of the spectrum of it, most Shonen titles are targeted at around the Boys 8 and older demographic. Either way, Mysterious Joker is intended for children. As for my opinion of the show? I thought it was pretty enjoyable. Although it was over the top in some areas, I really love how Joker is and some of the techniques he uses to steal the treasure. In a way, it reminds me of Magic Kaito, but with a more stylized design and more comedy focused. I'm not sure if some of these tropes are common with the Phantom Thief genre, but I am enjoying it, regardless. Definitely will go good with some of the other kids shows I'm checking out from last season. |

It feels weird having two Space Dandy scriptwriters (Dai Sato and Kimiko Ueno) doing another episodic series right after Space Dandy ended though this one is a manga adaptation (with some changes), not anime original like Space Dandy.
Hopefully Kimiko Ueno's episodes will be as good as her Space Dandy episodes. |
