I guess you wouldn't feel well in Germany then. Almost no girls wear skirts at school here. (at least in northwest Germany)
95% of girls wear trousers here.

So I have a hard time to understand why such a ban is so shocking, call it culture shock.

Girls at my school had the choice of trousers or skirts, but usually just wore the trousers in the winter because skirts in cold weather sound like a stupid idea to me.. seriously, why women wear skirts on cold winter days.. then go on to complai- getting side tracked...

Anyway, I was fine with them wearing the trousers, except for one reason. The trousers were made of the same material, and colour as the skirts, and looked down right silly. Like someone had gotten a skirt, unfolded the hem a few dozen times (somehow - probably possible with how short some of the skirts were worn), and then stitched the center together to make pants. Truly horrible looking pants they were. They looked better off wearing the boys pants (which I managed to convince a friend to wear - well the whole male uniform - when she stayed over one night but left fresh clothing at home. Teacher made her change into spare girls tracksuit in the lost and found though when we got to school, QQ. Either way, she looked good, better than the usual silly pants they had).

The fact that the school banned skirts in itself is shocking. They didn't even give the students a choice.

It's a church school, so this is probably the work of some god-bothering petty minded Conservative puritan who probably keeps the piano legs covered up because of 'Victorian Values'.
Not official policy... (yet, but I bet Mr. Cameron is thinking about it).

As a flipside, there's this other story about a bunch of boys who weren't allowed to wear shorts at school because they weren't part of the uniform, so wore skirts instead....!
(Luckily, I managed to find the link where I first read this, so I didn't have to google for it. I really really did NOT want to google for it!)

I can vouch for that

But that was almost 20 years ago! So it's not like they were wearing skirts and changed, all the students were going casual to begin with
