Gahh!! I'm so happy yet so sad!!

Happy: The episode, of course.

Spoiler for special2:

This took place from when Yorito created his sky wall and ends with his meeting with Matsuri.

Throughout the episode, we see the characters in their daily life.

Yorito, as always, is unhealthily obsessed with the sky. (I hope Mana doesn't become like him)
Mana is acting like a childhood friend, even waking him up.
Matsuri goes about her daily life as a Yaka. She even PUNCHES the vending machine.
Koyori is... Koyori. (Her sleeptalk... )
Aono is bed-ridden, being Aono.
Chisato and co. go around spying on Mana and Yorito. Sae gets hit a few times this episode.
Mayuko was really funny in this episode, from diving into a trashcan to catching a cold because she slept in the box. It is slightly disturbing that her expression became like that when she saw a shiny trash can.
Takeshi is being bossed around by Mayuko, as always.


It seems Matsuri earned money by selling the books in the church.

So... where does Takeshi get his?
By the way, Takeshi and Mayuko need to settle down somewhere. It is best not to sleep outside for their whole life.

A really nice episode. It is not as funny or as silly as the first special, still it is a really good episode.

Spoiler for Special 2:

This is a pre-Episode 1. I was hoping that we could see more on what's going on with Mayuko and Takeshi after the final episode, so I am somewhat dissapointed. Nevertheless, this is a really nice episode that reminds me why I liked Sola so much.

Some impressions about the episode:
1. The origin of "sky" in Yorito's bedroom. So it was way before him meeting Matsuri and I thought it was influenced by Yorito's desire to please Matsuri. I wonder if Aono, Mana, and Koyori will have that kind of room later.
2. So Mana was jealous of the sky, which is understandable considering the crazy obsession of Yorito to the sky. I wonder whether it was a design bug on the part of Aono or Yorito really needed to lay on the psychiatrist couch.
3. I do think after watching this episode that the series should focus more on Mana-Yorito path. It was highly underutilized throughout the entire series. They made a nice couple. Too bad Yorito was too thick-headed and I sympathized deeply with Mana.
4. Some focus on the classmates. Nice job. I like how three of them spied on Yorito-Mana and Mana's assault on Sae.
5. Apparently the constant "chops" did traumatize Koyori that she dreamed about being hit by Mana! There will be a couch for Koyori in the future for sure, not to mention when Aono, Mana and Koyori will be committed for being too obsessed with sky. (Not that I dislike sky, I like watching and taking picture of it once in a while. In this case, it just seems to be an unhealthy obsession.)
6. I don't know that Matsuri was a looter! Apparently that's how she survived for the past hundred years. Unfortunately, Matsuri was unable to cash on her skill unlike Aono! She should try to find a job on construction site as a demolisher.
7. Takeshi's small bits are funny, from his "accident" to his shock of seeing Mayuko and her bunny sleeping in the cans. Yeah, it is also very disturbing to watch Mayuko's expression when she saw the trash can. Though that explains why she decided to be a loli-in-a-can than a loli-in-a-box.

Spoiler for The can:

8. I thought Matsuri developed her kicking skill back when she lived in the cave. Apparently not....

Yeah, too bad no more Sola. The scanlation project is also dead.
I am hoping for a Takeshi-Mayuko spin-off.

They need to make an OVA to assure us this won't happen and that they will take the hobby in moderation.

I had no idea how much I have missed the music in this show. Absolutely mesmerizing and soothing. Mentorian pretty much sums things up for me as well by saying: "this is a really nice episode that reminds me why I liked Sola so much." For me, it was the atmosphere the show captured through out the series.



The episode serves as a prologue to the series.

Now this was an excellent episode. If the previous one was meh, this one fully managed to capture the charm of the characters and the nostalgic atmosphere that so quickly drew me in to the original. I can only nod and agree with the aforementioned "this is a really nice episode that reminds me why I liked Sola so much." And we even got to learn where Matsuri gets her money from This is how extra episodes should be done.

Finally watched my copy of the special ep. Finally, the last DVD to complete the collection. (^o^)b

Anyway my thoughts are split into two camps :

Spoiler for Thoughts:

1. Bueee~~~~ Why is this episode 0? Looks like I'll have to rely on the game and/or the manga for any potential "After" stories for all of them. (And maybe a happier end for Matsuri and Yorito?)

2. Yay~! Nice episode~~~ Pity about not that much Matsuri-chan, but Mana-san and the san-baka are yay as well.

This ep reminds me of the special prologue manga that was in Dengeki Daioh some time back... except that Matsuri-chan was wearing pajamas for part of it and was acting somewhat cuter. Boo.

Either way, it's a nice episode, especially if you're a Mana fan. Lots of Mana x Yorito scenes, (poor Mana vs the sky, ironic how she's now the sora baka now though) poor Koyori and her head (Mana's evil eye is quite powerful... ) , and yay for Takeshi and his explosive mishap! Mwahaha, it is a good punishment for what you're about to do to Matsuri-chan, I say.

Best moment of the episode - Takeshi finding Mayuko KO'ed headfirst in a dustbin. Seriously, why was Mayuko blushing when she saw such a clean dustbin? Sounds like she's had to sleep in really dirty places before this.

Maaa... in any case, I concur with most of you guys - this ep brought back the nice calm soothing atmosphere of the first few episodes. I still say we could have done with more Yorito x Matsuri scenes, but oh well. I suppose the sola project is pretty much closed for now.

Can't wait for the game. XD

I liked it yet was hoping for an explanation for the last scene in sola. This is one of the few series in recent times I got so emotionally involved in that I could hardly bear to see it end. More than anything else, it brought back those same feelings of loss and nostalgia...much like everyone else who's posted up to this point.

so this special took place before matsuri met with yorito - the meeting at the end just screams for a rewatch of the whole series

anyway some interesting and melo events went on here.

firstly seeing that mana actually would have had a chance with yorito if matsuri didnt turn up was kinda depressing cant help but feel sorry for her for the way things turned out...iirc she still didnt get an explination as to why yorito disappeared at the end of the series.

interesting to see matsuri pawning books to make money ^^ and who can forget her little adventures with that blasted vending machine! i wonder who actually comes and fills it up seen as it looks old and worn out - so much so that a good beating would dispense a beverage ^^

poor koyori...she is even having nightmares about mana beating her up - now that is serious loli abuse

takeshi and mayuko - perfect "father and daughter" relationship XD

i loled pretty hard seeing mayuko looking at the trash can...and blushing i guess the box wasnt enough for her ^^

anyone else find the scene with he sneezing in her box delightful? soo cute when she said "saite" XD

overall it was just plain awesome...times like these makes me wish that the series didnt end...happy but sad at the same time indeed ~

Only other new Sola will be manga and game (whenever that comes out).

this episode was great.

Spoiler for :

it was showing daily life of everyone and before Matsuri meet Yorito.

Mayuko and Takeshi part was funny, especially Mayuko got into the trash can .

Another scene was I feel quite lonely when showing Matsuri hang out alone in the night with that song...

At last, the ending there was nice, joining the part with the ep1, meeting Yorito then finish.

Now Sola is no more, sad ..

btw, anyone have the vol5 special cd drama translate??

Yea, although a lot of the scenes were nostalgic, I felt the ending song with the scenes of Matsuri were particularly well done and gave off a lingering bittersweet loneliness that culminated into their first meeting quite nicely. All things considered, I'd definitely say this was a great episode (even if it started off a bit slow).

A surprisingly nice prequel that really uses Sola's fantastic music to bring out the unique tone of the series. Could have used more Matsuri, you can never have too much Matsuri.

Ureshii just released the sola DVD SP2 just last night. Now I wonder should I get it or wait hoping for Doremi release which is still uncertain..?

A perfect "conclusion" to a series I enjoyed greatly. As mentioned, the music is fantastic and the mood is just right. I'm sad to see Sola come to an end, but they did such an excellent job with this episode, I'm thoroughly pleased.

This was rare territory for a "special" episode, very much capturing the mood and magic of the original series. It felt and looked like a part of the larger whole and not a free-standing structure. Sadly, that it was so good was cause to remember how much I miss this show, and how empty the ending left me feeling. Much like life, you can't have the joy of the relationship without the eventual pain of saying goodbye.

Definitely. I wanted more Matsuri.

It was a nice episode. It nice to see how Mana hated the sky in this prequel and how she eventually grows to love the sky in the "last" episode (episode 13).
