Favorite Anime From The Past Five Years?

From 2007-now, what have been your favorite anime? Try to list your reasons why and what stood out to you about them. Any genre is possible, but try to pick series that you consider to be well-made and enjoyable to you personally. I'd like to try watching some from this time span as I've missed quite a few, though for me it would be:

Gurren Lagann: It was the last anime I watched during the height of my fan-hood. It is one of my favorites because I thought it was both clever in its references to classics and extremely entertaining and exciting in its own right. I'm not a mech fan by any means, and I'm not even usually a hot-blooded hero type fan (though it's certainly fun), but the atmosphere in this one swept me up completely.

Clannad and Clannad After Story - In my opinion one of the best slice of life, romance anime I've seen, ever.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - One the best plots. Its got action, emotion, stratergy, politics....what more could you want?

Baccano - Its too much fun

Negima! : After watching a good number of generic action shounen (Naruto, Hunter X Hunter) I suddenly come across this one, created by Ken Akamatsu (Love Hina). It's good to see a ecchi/harem show like this to have a underaged yet physically strong MC who wants to protect plenty of girls with his cool magical powers. I find it so enjoyable that I even bought some random manga volumes. Even after starting watching simulcasts (like Qwaser of Stigmata), I'll never forget my experience with this one.

Clannad and Clannad After Story-I am a heartless wench when it comes to so-called tear-jerking animes, but I wept like a baby when I watched this. Clannad fans will know which scene I am talking about.

Gurren Lagaan-I remember shaking in awe when I watched the last episode. Words failed me then, and still do now. Epic.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood-You don't know what awesome means until you watch this anime. It has everything you wish for-action, politics, a little romance, but more importantly, brotherhood.

Steins;gate
: The self-proclaimed mad Scientist Rintaro Okabe brings with him a whole new definition of mad. I like mad heroes. It just makes them extra adorable, ya know?

Macross Frontier: Even if you are not a fan of mecha, you will willingly sit through 25 episodes and 2 movies for the sake of the songs.

Level E: Baka Ouji. The mere thought of him in his ridiculous antics is enough to make you want to laugh and smash the computer screen at the same time.

Starting from 2007? Not older? Hmmm...

Angel Beats, not my top series but it has some of the best soundtracks I heard and really nice animation. Story wise it's undeveloped bus still has some great parts.

Aria series, first season is old but the last one is from to 2008. Really enjoyed this series, made me feel very relaxed. And last season left a warm and longing feeling.

Baccano has one of the most unique story telling styles which I really enjoyed starting from episode 2-3.

Claymore was released in 2007 and I really enjoyed the series. It has interesting characters and story and I also liked the action as well as dark atmosphere in the series. Wish there was more.

FMA: Brotherhood, I liked the first season and I like this version too which follows the manga. If you are a fan of FMA or shounen, this is a must see. Great characters, interesting story and nice animation. And I don't hate main character here, usually all main charas in action series are under death flag in my book.

Ga-Rei Zero is among my top 5 anime. I like the action and I love the twist in episode 1. I also like the drama and I really like the main heroine Yomi, never though I could get attached to a character in just 12 episodes. She made the series for me, without her it would be boring. Her story will make you emotional.

Ghost Hunt began in 2006 but finished in 2007. One of my top series too. I love ghosts and detectives and this is a mix of both!

Mayo Chiki, can't call it the best series but this comedy made me laugh a lot and I liked the characters.

Phantom: Requiem of the Phantom another one of my faves. I loved the dark atmosphere in it and the characters. I also liked the fact that series were not afraid to show some of the heavy themes that action series usually try to avoid. Series are about assassins and they were shown killing, not goofing around.

Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin are another strong, heave series about group of friends and their hardships. Series follow their life while in prison and when they are out. Cover some dark and sad themes.

Shiki are done by same author as Ghost Hunt. Like the dark atmosphere and music. Even though the culprit is obvious, series still kept me on the edge.

Sword of the stranger is a movie with great sword action and nice soundtracks.

Chihayafuru are a surprise series for me. I watched them out of boredom and because there was nothing else at the time. I have never regretted watching it. I've enjoyed the series far more than I have ever expected. The theme seems very boring but anime managed to turn it into a fantastic ride that keeps you entertained. Besides series have good cast of characters that actually develop.

To limit to just a few, since it's pretty close between for me.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica - An amazing story, paced perfectly(imo anyways) that was emotional, thrilling, and thought provoking to watch and very interesting cast of characters. Probably my favorite series.

Bakemonogatari - It's dialogue is just amazingly witty, has romance that develops at better pace than majority of series, and it's very unique, but if you don't like a good bit of dialogue you might like it as much.

Clannad/AS is honorable 3rd for this . For reasons mentioned by others.

Other 2:
Shakugan no Shana III/Final - One the most satisfying endings to a series like this in a long time. (And III on a whole was so much better than II went...)

Steins;Gate - Great story and cast, while being funny and serious when needed, and thrilling towards second half.

1. Death Note - Gotta be honest here, this is still my favorite of the last 5 years. You may have already seen this one so I won't say anything about it.

2. Seirei no Moribito - An extremely well-made fantasy anime, so rare to be almost nonexistent. Immersive world, awesome animation, great character development, just top quality all around.

3. Katanagatari - with 2 shows on this list I guess Nisio Isin is my favorite writer for anime made in the last 5 years. Give him a try. Weird dialogue, strangely attractive animation, and unpredictable things happening that make an odd kind of sense.

4. Kaiba - Speaking of unique animation, Yuasa Masaaki may be at the top. "A world where memories can be stolen and altered, and replaced in a new human body." Sound interesting? If so, you'll love it.

5. Baccano - agreed with everyone who recommended it. Unique style and tons of fun.

6. Nodame Cantabile - an anime about classical music based on a shoujo manga.

7. Seto no Hanayome - one of the best anime comedies I've seen. Random and over the top, yet it stays on the top of its game the whole series.

8. Nijuu-Mensou no Musume - To be honest, this did not live up to its potential. For a while I was thinking it would be an all time great adventure, but it losts its way somewhat. Still very worth watching and the protagonist (Chiko) remains one of my all time favorites.

9. Bakemonogatari - another Nisio Isin anime. Even more dialogue based.

10. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - One of the best shounen series. Really nice plot and character relationships. I was a little overloaded on FMA having already watched the first series and read the manga, but still enjoyed it a lot.

Good pick, I just started watching it recently on Netflix and it's awesome. Cool soundtrack too.

Thanks for all the input!

Gintama (It's the best...if you're part of the crowd that grew up and became fascinated with shonen anime in the early-to-mid-90's, there is no other show that captures the comedy, action, heart, and pureness of that time-frame and this genre like this show...It's about the most perfect anime ever created for it's content..the only show that gives me that inner goodness feeling I had when i first started getting into anime)

Welcome to the NHK
(sublime meets reality meets sublime)

Tokyo Tribe 2 (If you can get pass the first episode, which is a big "if", there's really nothing like it, and it unveils a territory of Japan that went without notice for too long)

FMA: B'Hood (The only problem with this show is it may be too good...There are like 5 final fights in the last 10 episodes...It's almost too much...It also includes what I believe may be 2 of The Top 5 ANIME EPISODES OF ALLTIME- Hide your flasks!)

Gundam OO (Went off the rails at times, but at it's core, it was truly Gundam...Erm, until the movie )

Bartender
(Just a mesmerizing show that sobered you with every sip, plus it taught me how to get looked at like a fool in American bars by asking for the special drinks at the end of each episode =/)

Last but not least by any stretch, hell 1st:

Mitchiko E Hatchin
(How is this show so under the radar...Let me tell you how unappreciated and almost non-existenat this show comes up in anime relevance

Cowboy Bebop --> Samurai Champloo--> Mitchiko E. Hatchin

other than Lupin the 3rd, there are no shows that can enter this genre...Not that overrated gun porn Black Lagoon or Baccano either...I can live being one of the only people on earth that knows this truth...
