Well, they got Hirano to do a couple of throwaway lines for the episode, so I don't think VA availability was a component in making this a spinoff. The Children will continute to be relevant, it seems.
That said, the writing is pretty good. I expected a lot of thing, but so far, it turns out to be very interesting and a well-written thing that is an absolute treat for the series' fans (except for Manglobe character designs, these can be polarizing). |

A bit of Yugiri, a bit of BABEL, and a birthday party. Nice episode. I got a small chuckle out of the "How to Be An Emperor for Beginners" book. Such a practical gift. And that animation for the hellish carnival Yugiri summoned was pretty freaky. Having Kaoru, Aoi and Shiho make another cameo does suggest they might have parts to play in later episodes. They wouldn't put Kaoru in the OP for nothing. The scene with Minamoto and Andy negotiating was also pretty nice - keep 'em going with the mind games, Fujiko. The spinoff's tone looks to be getting a little closer to the main series as it moves along.

I was always wondering how will Kyousuke die....this episode answered it for me~....in the manga even tho he chnged the future, Kaoru would still be the Queen....without kyousuke!!
So basically this is the biggest spoiler it seems!

It's quite strange, personally, to be seeing Unlimited tackle all these Hyoubu character hints/developments that were planted way wayyy back in the Elementary arc... and then practically vanished during the Middle School arc.

But it's nice to know they've follow what is, apparently, a popular trend from the first series: lolicon jokes at the expense of the male leads. Though it actually works from a story telling stand point to do it that way. While they may be cheap jokes, they also allow them to remove that aspect of tension from the series, so it never really gets squicky. |

Calling the rest of the series now:
1) Hyoubu is predicted to die because his powers are unhealthy for him in unlimited mode. However, Andy hasn't been accounted for in any predictions (at least BABEL seemed to think he came out of nowhere) because of his cancelling ability. 2) Hyoubu knows that Andy is a spy. Gradually PANDRA wins him over. 3) Andy's cancelling ability is able to save Hyoubu by keeping his fatal overload in check. This involves him and Hyoubu no longer using artificial limiters because ~THE UNLIMITED~ 4) ??? 5) Yugiri has two daddies. |

Odds are it was whoever was animating that scene that's a fan. Which, given how it's barely on screen for a second, it's not surprising the editors wouldn't pick up the references. For as popular as Doug and the AVG are, they're still pretty niche, especially for a Japanese editor.
