Anyway, I just finished watching this episode. I think it was ok, not epic like the previous two but it still had some interesting things. An actually I don't think animation did suffer. More like the design of the characters was a bit simplified in the first half (but the animation was smooth just like in the other episodes, unless with "bad quality animation" you're actually referring to other technical elements that really do not have a lot in common with "animation"), and I think it was intentional, because in the second half things were back to normal. Why would that be intentional? Well, don't you think that it's a bit of a weird coincidence that Spoiler:

Quick thoughts on Gurren 9: Amazing episode once again, with quite a few amazing Norio Matsumoto scenes here and there (most first half), new Opening animation, Spiral God Generals, new mecha designs, foreshadowing, an exciting plot, good introspective yet still fun script and SUPER CUTE NIA. Lagann FUKKEN DELIVERS. Most fun show for me this season.
Spoiler for Oh, Simon...:

Since he brought name similarities up, I was making a joke to the anime NieA_7, where protagonist's room is inhabited by a useless under-class alien named Niea. (In Japanese, reads the same as the other two Nias mentioned. ニア)
