The first thing it came to my mind when I saw Vividred Blue Operation was Figure 17, despite being a really different series. After the attack, of course I drew comparisons with a certain gold hammer as well.
I can't really say the fanservice is "excessive", I was actually expecting quite more.
The premise can't really be taken seriously (especially the idea of the Engine itself). I think I can link the experience of this show so far with Symphogear: no "classic" but an enjoyable show. Enough for me, I guess.

The two girls seemed pretty goofy and oblivious while discovering their new powers as innocent people around then were getting blown to bits lol No matter, their transformations are eye (candy) catching and I hope they transform more often

I liked the cooperation between the girls and the air force + navy, it was pretty cool and entertaining

This show sure does like it's butt shots lol, not that i'm complaining

That whole becoming one thing was unexpected too lol I thought they would both just power up but I was very wrong XD Man, if they ever make figurines out of all these characters, they're going to be hella expensive lol

Okay... it was actually a well paced and animated fight. As for everything else... it's actually one of the most enjoyable action I've seen in a while provided I turn my brain off for the other parts.

So I'm kinda impressed by the detailing they've put into the military aircraft - we see a flight of 3 F-22s inbound at first, then followed by 6 F-35s, which are probably the \ CATOBAR C, as I don't see the duct fan intake hatch on the spine that would denote the B, and carriers would be the likely source for them Lightning IIs... also, given that the F-22s are shown firing AMRAAM missiles at the Alone, it's no wonder that they're not hurting it: the AMRAAM has a small blast fragmentation warhead, which is fine for killing planes, not so great for a large armored target. I have to wonder as to what missiles the DDGs are firing as well - it looks like Standard Missile 2s to me. Those are great SAMs, and can be used with some success against ships, but that's because naval ships are essentially unarmored. Tomahawks might be a better option, except that I don't see them - and anyhow those are land attack missiles; IIRC nobody uses the antiship variant anymore.

Still, while the fighters might not be too effective - and really, you need the F-35s up there to fire off Harpoons to really hurt that Alone - at least this Alone isn't as hax as the Neuroi.

Okay, this seems to be some kinda modified F-35, or they didn't do the research - the C - since that's what I'm assuming these are, given they're being launched from the George Washington - doesn't have an internal gun, it has a external 25mm gunpod, and it does not sound like a slow-firing machinegun...

Also, nice detailing on the hardware of the DDGs seen - I count two Kongo-class (Kongo & Myoko), plus a mix of Flight I and Flight II Arleigh-Burke-class DDGs (Flight Is are distinguishable from Flight IIs by the lack of an aft helo hangar) and Flight II Ticonderoga-class cruisers, as well as what I believe is the USS George Washington in the OP, based on the hull number.

And they even have Amagi using what looks to be a development of JHMCS - though it's not the actual F-35 helmet, which has a gold mirror surface. Well, she is a named character, afterall.

And while I'm kinda surprised that there's a passenger V-22 that Aoi's riding in, I do recall that Skikorsky and Bell have made civillian models of their military helicopters, the most famous being the Sea King and Huey respectively...

What does surprise me is that I see EA-6B Prowlers on the George Washington's flight deck; really by now they ought to have been replaced by the EA-18G Growler...

...I think I may have missed the point of the last two episodes. '

Why waste so much of the first episode to explain the science than just ignore it all? It's like there was one author that decided the premise than kicked the bucket and another author took over and decided to ignore the entire premise. That is just plain dumb what is the author smoking?

The single girl transformations possibly could be explained scientifically the suits they transform into could be a more advanced form of exoskeleton.. We have silicon clothing that gets hard when hit. So yes a material that enhances our strength and such with a power source could become reality. Even transferring electricity through the air is possible now to a small scale they have done monitors that were powered by the base by up to 3 feet away with no physical connection connecting them.

Teleportation or shape changing metal to form the weapons again semi-believable look at Terminator 2 and Stargate. But becoming a new grown up body from two people.. now that was just taking science and slapping it in the face.

This is taking magic girls in a scifi environment that supposedly are not magic girls.. there is just no practical way to explain merging of two souls and bodies into one and than separating back into two. The author did not know if he/she wanted the world to be science or magic from this second episode. Docking sounded like a more advanced robot form not a merging.

I just can't figure out why they wasted the time to explain the show scientifically only to throw the entire thing out the window.. Should of just started this show with discovery of magic and forgot reality as they blew away any reason for the first episode.
Nobody listens. I said it many times. Magical girls. Because science. That means, for those slow on the uptake, that they will be doing pure magical girl stuff, but using science as an excuse for it. This is what we call "soft science fiction." And really, if you thought the science in episode 1 was good, you weren't paying attention when they stuffed their grandfather's body in the fridge, as if that would somehow do it any good. And let's not even mention his counsciousness ending up in a stuffed toy, which then became fully animate as if it were a living creature.

This show has never been about real science. This is using science as an excuse for fancy mahou shoujo antics.

I recall Clarke mentioning that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

I recall nothing of the 1st episode that recounts any 'plausible' scientific explanation for the technologies at work in the show. Everything is derived from the Manifestation Engine, and how THAT Mcguffin works is not explained (yet). Much like the GN Drives, Photon Energy, Spiral Power or whatnot the exact mechanism is left fuzzy at best (at least until more info is provided). There's no long spiels or exposition on how the Manifestation Engine works, or that even that it has a basis in reality - it's your average sci-fi fantastic power source that works because it does.

The moment they show Professor Isshiki having his consciousness transferred into a stuffed toy through an explosion, I knew enough not to expect hard science from this show, and that's not a bad thing. I don't know where you got the idea that this show had a believable scientific base in the first place, when the first episode had none.

On more cheerful things, I suppose we should speculate on what the powers of the other Vivid girls will be. Since Aoi was Vivid Blue and is essentially KOS-MOS + GOLDION HAMMARRRRRRR, I figure the girl in green - who I am guessing is called Midori - will be some other female mecha/robot girl... crossed with DAIZENGAR.

ALONE WO TATSU TSURUGI!

Oh man, this episode was even funnier than the previous one. Ships and jets get blown up around them, and Aoi struggles to confess to Akane that she actually doesn't like tomatoes! A truly dark secret that weakens their friendship! The whole concept of docking and the attack names (Naked Impact? Really? ) were also hilarious. What was Akane's granddad even thinking when he invented the Vivid System?

The writing is so bad that it's funny. However, the action and the transformation scenes are awesome, so I don't mind that much.

Looking forward to the next episode

Well, if you take it at face value from just the tomatoes, then yes it does sound silly. But the underlying premise is sound: their friendship essentially began with a lie. A white lie sure, so as not to potentially hurt Akane's feelings, but a lie nonetheless. The fact that Aoi chose to initiate said friendship based on said deception made her believe that said friendship would crumble if it was ever exposed as such - afterall, relationships based on deception never last long. So it's a good thing then that Akane had seen through the lie a long time ago and still continued to be her friend because Aoi had put in the effort to maintain said friendship.

I wonder if Himawari and Wakaba will have similar symparate troubles for their first symmetrical docking into Gekiryujin

The Yuri and double enterdes are very strong in this series. Seriously, the elder Isshiki must be quite a pervert.

Yea I figured a lot of this wasn't going to be played straight. Thought I think people getting mad and dropping this show just because it's not straight up science.

Anyway from the look of the Opening credits it doesn't look like Momo will be joining her sister in glorious combat as I had hoped but who knows I may be surprised.

Well I for one didn't see them fusing into one being to save the day coming at all... That was kind of cool. The attack names, not so much. Hilarious for sure though.

I just feel bad for all those navy fodder, poor guys!

I'm hoping Momo will be the hidden badass that will come to save the day in the finale.

Yea I haven't seen a fusion like that done since my DBZ days.

Well they knew the job was dangerous when they took it...

I'm hoping is the one that'll help combine with Akane to make Vividred!
