Here's the OP song again since the other video is not available anymore:

Nao is more energetic than I had thought and I find it funny at how she uses her photography skills for more than just taking photos

Episode 2

Writers: We've improved from Angel Beats!"

Me: "No. No you haven't..."

[EDIT]

This might turn out to be a complicated one for me. Angel Beats' biggest redeeming feature (against a myriad of writing issues) was the hilarious comedy that had a double effect of retaining charm for its characters so I still cared about them in the end for their drama moments. Charlotte's comedy is a little more hit and miss now that the douchebag side of the MC is gone. The glasses guy's antics are pretty funny but aren't enough to fill the gap. So if this show is just going to be another Angel Beats without the good comedy then I'm not sure I can take that.

MC-sister-interaction for win.
The dialogue sometimes really felt forced. If you want to make us care about the characters thats very bad.

And now some rambling:
Why the fuck are scientist always so evil? Getting him to cooperate shouldn't have been that difficult, secured you the maximum amount of test time and you wouldn't have to worry about civil uproar if the tests get discovered and less about scientist defecting for ethical reasons. The possibilities to look into a human body and its processes without causing harm are already pretty extensiv and they didn't even at least disect him and stuff once he became useless.
Also why the student council? I don't know what they are doing IRL, but taking care of other people with abilitys seems to be pretty time intensive so make it a specialized group, they can still work together with the SC if for any reasons it would be necessary.

PS: Photographtelepathy guy spinoff!

I'm not feeling it, yet. The development seems slow and unstable. Why did they leave the archer in his school? Getting lunch was funny, but the broken glass and flying tables were hard for me to square with the serious tone underlying things. How can Nao just blithely go into the facility to see her brother? Why is she still free? The "one person I can trust" is like a "no, you can't" flag, but I guess that's okay. I'm afraid I do get vibes of Angel Beats, another show I never really got.

But I do connect with the four (including the sister) main characters so far, so that's good. I do agree with mergele about the forced dialogue, however.

That was a lot less snappy than the first episode. Now that the main character is a good guy and has become Nao's lapdog, the series has lost a lot of its charm. Thankfully, they sort of made up for it by giving the heroine a strong personality.I didn't think I'd like Nao as much as I do after this episode. She's great.

Hmm well not a bad episode. Honestly I prefer the MC acting a bit more moderately than a complete unlikable jerk that he was in the first half of last episode.

Though I wouldn't say it's flawless either. I second the question of why are the scientists in this written to be complete morons? Torturing and messing up these kids makes no sense. You can't just replace them with a different kid, that's how experiments like this would work. Finding a kid with the exact same ability is like trying to win the lottery. Just using another kid means starting up a completely different avenue of research....that's just dumb. Scientists would breaking out in that case of losing all the work they just put in. It'd be a priority to fix kids like Nao's brother and work to find a way to keep these powers going past adolescence. The battery analogy is just flawed in how she uses it. These kids aren't the same. The only similarity is that they have powers. It's like trying to use a remote that requires AA batteries but all you have laying around are AAA batteries. You are screwed.

Maybe you can just read it as Nao being overly pessimistic. There's just no way there is no one researching this. No one that wouldn't like the idea of having people with freaking super powers that they can use to advance research and technology.

Anyways....I'm curious to see how things go. I like the MC a bit more when he's acting a bit out of character to be honest. At least I can understand him sympathizing mostly because he can see a terrifying image of how his sister could turn out if he continued to act stupid and got himself captured by complete psychos.

I like how they depict 'teleportation' as just really high speed movement.

Nao constant mood swings in her voice has a nice range.

I really liked Episode 2. It was better than I had expected.

Personally, I'm glad that they're taking their time with the characters and the setting. I like how we're not having a bunch of new characters thrown at us, and are mostly focused on developing the Student Council characters.

I agree with Kanon on Nao - She was great in Episode 2. I also didn't expect to like her as much as I do now. She was nicely amusing and very sympathetic. The highlights of the episode were definitely finding out about her background, and meeting her brother. That was very emotionally compelling, and had a good blend of "dark" with "sci-fi" that reminded me some of the Raildex franchise.

Another good thing about meeting Nao's brother is that it enabled PAW to show off their visual capabilities some. It was great to see more of that highly picturesque PAW scenery.

The first case, with the archer guy, was mildly amusing and decent for a first case. It was a fun little scene.

I can respect how those who love Key comedic hijinks might have wanted more of that than what Episode 2 provided. But for me, it was just the right amount and style of comedy to compliment the drama. Glasses-guy provides good comedy, and there's some chuckle-worthy moments here and there. As long as the character drama is good, and the plot interesting, I'm more than happy with this amount and quality of comedy.

Charlotte might actually live up to the hype. This does seem more well-wrote to me than Angel Beats! was. The plotting feels more focused and purposeful, the storytelling is more slow and careful and methodical, and the story is allowed to breath some by first focusing on our initial core cast before we move on (much) to other important characters.

And one excellent mysterious hook has been introduced in Episode 2. Something that will certainly help to maintain my interest.

That mysterious hook is a major question now looming in my mind - Who is Nao's benefactor? The person who she feels she can trust?

It seems this person would have to be wealthy or powerful or both.

I'm looking forward to later seeing this person. And I have a speculation on who this individual may be!

Spoiler for Make it so!:

Knowing how Key works, I have a feeling Nao's benefactor and the missing person from Yu and Ayumi's family are one in the same. There's nothing to base this on except it would really poetic. That, and if you think the guy left Yu and Ayumi around the same time as he helped Nao, well...

After the refreshing episode 1, episode 2 felt like a damper as it went into oh-so-familiar, background characterization territory that is supposed to make you sad and care for them.

Except I dun.

Art and graphics were great to look at. Story-wise, meh.

Episode 2

Nao Tomori is fighting against Otosaka Yuu for best character this season. Lol when the picture guy called her attractive and then she started to jump around in joy that someone acknowledges her cuteness. Too bad we didn't get to see the picture that guy had to blackmail her. Bummer.

The humor is awesome here. The super fast dude is hilarious especially when he tries to save the day and then acts like nothing happened.

We get some info on Tomori and why she's so determined to not let these special children run amok. The little bits of emotional stuff are starting to surface now. It was done nicely I guess. This had me at the humor already and I think they might pull off the emotional part well too.

Ep 02

Interesting. In some ways the series got a lot more interesting for me and a lot more detailed, but there were also aspects of the ep that also made me scratch my head as needlessly over the top...like the sandwich purchasing scene launching the cafeteria crew 10 feet in the air.

The OP is pretty nice and the ED is better, but the visuals for the songs were quite something.

I agree with really liking Nao at the end of the ep, by the way.

Also...good guess on Akuma's part, I think.

After watching the second episode I feel like this will end up just like Plastic Memories did last season for me. Great character design, nice characters, decent setting but really poor development that will make me want to drop it around ep 5.

I hope I'm wrong though since they did give us hints that it will get considerably darker later on, but I'm not too optimistic for now.

Well, character driven stories are supposed to make you care about the characters in it. You laugth and cry with them, you get happy if something good happens to them or get sad when something sad happens. That's how these kind of stories work. If it doesn't work for you, it's just the wrong show for you.

That's just loud/explosive Key slapstick comedy, in my view. Perhaps it stands out more here since it tends to come in short bursts, and doesn't tend to take over large chunks of full episodes.

But I think we're supposed to take these scenes as visually exaggerated and as pure comedy. It also makes Yuu's little car accident stunt from Episode 2 look maybe less serious in retrospect, for me.

Key sometimes has comedy moments like these - Little Busters! had it. Angel Beats! had it. It's probably best to just roll with the absurdity and assume nobody got seriously hurt.

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to feel sad yet. This is still really early game territory; it's not Maeda's style to punch the viewers at this tage.
