the mustang would be a much better car if it was significantly lighter, then it would be very good, but its about 1k lbs overweight to be a serious autosports car asside from Drag. Of all domestics honestly the people who have gotten it right are the higher end corvettes, light weight, highpower, very nimble, perfect.

fox body was a major step in the right direction, this new overweight 200 horsepower crap...not at all.

In either case, for once, I agree with you...The Mustang has become overweight, but you can say that about most any mass-produced car in America...The only reason why cars are getting heavier instead of lighter is because of mainstream conveniences, such as your commodities like AC/heating and sound systems, and safety features such as airbags and those bigass mandated crash bumpers...The Mustang is a mainstream car that appeals to the masses, so it's not going to get the same kind of enthusiast-friendly lower-production car like the Corvette is, but even the Corvette isn't a true enthusiast's car (Save for of course the Nurburgring-stomping ZR1 )...No mainstream car from any country of origin is an "enthusiast's" car because the market is dominated by the consumers, and more than a majority of consumers aren't enthusiasts...

...of course, that's where aftermarket comes in...

Anime centric, Japanese second...Too many otaku fanboys/fangirls running around screaming "Sugoi!" that couldn't even name a Japanese car unless it appeared in an anime/manga, so that doesn't hold up...

This is very much true, though one thing does confounds me; Since the consumers are typically not enthusiasts, why are there so many sports, muscle and exotic cars out there with great amounts of horsepower (and sometimes torque, though torque is very useful) that most of the consumers don't really use on a daily driver. I understand it if it were for trucks, but I'm referring to cars. I suppose the manufacturers somewhat answered that question by giving at least two options of the same car with one being lower powered than the other.

Don't forget "kawaii" that some of them actually scream out "kawai" which means something else completely...and isn't something you should remotely use in place of "kawaii..." Of course, to me, the worst one of all is when they butcher and splice two or more languages together in a sentence.

what the hell....

To those who say the current mustang is heavy, it's just as heavy as 350Z and EVO X.

The same case can be applied to your basic commuter cars like mid-size and full-size sedans; You don't have to be an enthusiast to go fast, and it's also something of a bragging right for the manufacturers...

Exactly why I said that any mass-produced car in America can be considered heavy...

i dont consider the 350z a competitive car asside from drift, and the evo X is a major step backwards as the car has gotten increasingly heavier since the heyday of the evo6.5 T.M edition.

It's funny how the G35 Coupe, despite being a slightly-heavier sports luxury with the same chassis, can out-handle the 350Z because of it's slightly larger wheelbase and more balanced weight distribution...I've always liked the G Coupes better than the 350Z, and I have a distaste for the excess that's found in luxury cars...

I don't know much about the G35's predecessor the G37, but if it's like the G35 but improved, then I like that car over the 350Z too...

Not really. With the old EVOs, potential buyers who could see past the crap interior were put off by its rock-hard ride. The latest iteration of EVO has gone mainstream without losing its character.

It's a shame they couldn't get that ATTESA ET-S-derived AWD drivetrain from the G35x Sedan on the Coupe...Then the US would have a real Skyline, and not have to wait for some car badged as the "GT-R" that no one could afford...

you can get a skyline in the us, ofc assuming you have 30-50k to get a motorex /bond released r32/33/34

the r32-r34 skyline is pretty terrible compaired to the FD or jdm evos/stis though on average (were talking the 90's variants), not as nimble, just good at going fast in a straight line, something a supra crushes it at.

thats exactly my point, the Evo is a WRC car, its meant to be a rockhard ride, the point is to be a cornering machine, not a luxury mobile.

g37 was a step in the right direction, but they shouldve just imported the r34 -_-.

In all actuality, the Mustang was originally designed to be a budget sports-like pony car that could get you style for dirt cheap: Midsize 2-door, long front hood/short rear deck looks, straight-6 engine, $2400 1964-era dollars...Performance didn't come in until people saw more potential than just sticking a 289 in it and calling it sporty...

The Mustang has a long history in more than just drag racing:
∙Mustangs won 1st and 2nd in it's class in the Tour de France international rally in 1964
∙The Shelby GT350R won 5 of 6 divisions in SCCA races between 1965-1966, also winning other races between 1966-1967, also winning Trans Am in 1966 and 1967
∙The Boss 302 raced and won Trans Am in 1970 (In competition with the Camaro Z/28 and Challenger T/A)
∙Mustangs won GTO classes in Daytona 24 in 1985-1986
∙Steve Saleen gained noteriety by winning an SCCA Escort Endurance SSGT race in a personally-modified Mustang in 1987
∙The out-of-the-box FR500 won it's first race in Grand Am in 2005 and continues to race in Grand Am

This among many other countless road racing attempts and wins...

Many tuners have also focused on honing in on the handling side of the Mustang...In-house SVT models focused on improving the chassis and suspension for handling capabilities (See the 2000 SVT Cobra R for best example of a street-legal track car), Steve Saleen gained popularity after racing in SCCA and also modifies Mustangs, Jack Roush raced in NASCAR and also tunes Mustangs for handling, Steeda uses it's experience in track racing to offer many Mustang upgrades including chassis and suspension mods, and so on...

So no, the Mustang isn't just about straight line drag racing, a stereotype that's also false for almost any other pony or muscle car...
Lol, I take back what i said about the mustangs and i'll just add in "I think" they're really only good in a straight line I'm not a fan of your typical everyday mustang...BUT I am a fan of the Cobra's and do like the Cobra R quite a bit. And like mentioned...the new Shelby does look pretty damn mean. The SVT models of all of Ford's vehicles i gotta say i do tend to like while not even taking a second glance at the base models. It's just a bit of a shame that SVT isn't as active as they once were and are as of right now only putting out the Mustangs that aside from a few parts that don't even have SVT on them.

Roush's and Saleen's...i've personally never gotten a liking to though.

What? Surely you jest, or are talking about the lesser non-GT-R trim models, because it's the ATTESA ET-S that made the Skyline GT-R a killer on the track (Though the R-32/R-33 more so as the R-34 grew quite a bit)...

Nimble, I don't know, but when it comes to handling and pure lateral G numbers, the Skyline GT-R had class in it's hey-day...

No, what is an Infiniti G35/G37 in North America is a Nissan Skyline in Japan, and what is a Nissan 350Z in North America is a Nissan Fairlady Z in Japan...
