It is true to the games. In the Japanese games at least the interface is in English and it says the exact same thing. Since the anime is also Japanese, they just used the same design.

From the game:

Yeah I remember that, but I remember that in the actual dialogue they just called it a death clip. I'll drop the subject, since it's a minor complaint.

However what is significant is that they changed the Dubhe battle. The party is supposed to meet Joe before they finish off Dubhe.

They also made Daichi's truck driving scene look worthless. In the game Daichi drives the truck straight into that explosive cloud puff at the top, which takes that part out and weakens it, allowing Hibiki, Io, and Joe (...WHO IS MISSING) take out Dubhe together. Here they made it look like what Daichi did affected nothing at all and Hibiki finishes it with an overleveled DEM demon on his own. Congratulations, the anime has just ruined one of Daichi's only moments where he's useful.

On a lighter note, I laughed at Hibiki having 64000-something Macca on his phone I guess he's on New Game+.

I raged when the anime made the truck driving worthless. I have feared that this would happen ever since I read it off the manga.
The same goes to that Byakko, it felt ridiculous. Unless this really is a new game +. But that still doesn't justify the truck driving being worthless.

I'll explain the exact mechanic behind Dubhe's power while I am at it.

Spoiler for Dubhe:

-sigh- as usual MC ends up with massive amount of power without trying right from the beginning. There better be good explanation =/

Otherwise I liked it. Out of everything new I've seen this season, this is the most promising show right now.

hmmm this anime reminds me of persona 4 for some reason. The story plot is pretty interesting. The 6 slots for monsters reminds me of pokemon haha.

Not so. The Persona games are illustrated by Shigenori Seojima, who's also the lead director on those games. Devil Survivor is illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda, who you might remember from Durarara! and Yokazura Quartet.

Anyway, I remain cautiously hyped for this. Kishi still has the same bad habit of adapting those gamey moments far too literally; sure, I liked the fanservice touches, but it's distracting and far too videogamey when I'm just here for plot. I suppose it's a fool's hope they won't ever bring up auctioning or Mecca.

This episode moved fast, way too fast for any character or plot to really sink in, but for what it's worth, the Dubhe battle hints at extents they'll go to when we reach the more massive Septentriones fights. And thank god they got the "world breaking down" atmosphere down pat.

The first episode was a bit fast paced but it was probably necessary to pull the viewers in. It worked on me. The premise is interesting and I loved the tense and suspenseful atmosphere as well as the apocalyptic setting. Good music and character design (nice titties on Nitta) were a nice bonus. I also enjoyed seeing familiar SMT monsters (Byakko, Pixie).

I'm sold.

Think you may have misinterpreted what I was saying.

I'm saying that the art style is likely to be the same as Devil Survivor's game graphics. I was referring to P4A because the anime adaptation of the game stuck to the art style used within Persona 4 - and, considering Devil Survivor 2 is also an ATLUS game, I was suggesting that the adaption would do the same thing, and use the art style from the game being adapted (in this case, Devil Survivor 2).

Thanks for pointing out the Durarara! thing though - I did wonder why Io Nitta looked an awful lot like Anri

That was a pretty good start. Nice characters, decent action, odd concept but did well to explain it. Looking forward to more.

No kidding. They could have at least shown the pink portion being severely damaged enough that Dubhe was now vulnerable.

Considering Hibiki's got 64399 Macca on him, I assume it's a New Game+ playthrough?

I hope that the next battles show the other function of the Demon Summoning App: letting humans use magical and physical skills. It'd be a nice way to differentiate fights in this series from the P4 Animation battles.

Opposite for me, he is the main thing I enjoyed about the episode.

I liked the friendship between the two boys (wonder if it will last) and I liked how they portrayed Shibuya Crossing.

But the premise and feel of the series doesn't really do it for me. To be fair I am not a big fan of video games and as many people said this doesn't hide its origins.

Of course I was only in it for the seiyuu from the beginning so I will watch a few more eps and at least enjoy it for that (I lied above, Sakurai at the very end was also something I enjoyed).

I don't see anything in the first episode that will make this more than a fun action series but it would be nice if I was wrong (and yeah there is nothing inherently wrong with a fun action series, it's just not personally my thing).

Yeah I think the adaptation suffers from trivializing early parts of the game because they just want to introduce the elements quickly and move on. The summoning scene after the train accident was also very different, and instead of something which forced the characters to face their fears and actively take part in battle, it was mostly just the characters being scared and confused while their demons took care of everything. Not happy with those changes either.

But overall the series does have potential. Maybe when Airi shows up it'll be good. <3

I give him a pass for Natsume, but Hiroshi really does sound preposterous doing this character. The industry needs to get past this idea that guys can play 16 year-olds forever.

I would have liked it if Daichi did some damage in Dubhe instead of just running in like that. That clearly was suicidal. He should have at least knocked the explosion part out. Other than that, I really liked the animation, mostly the way the demons are summoned and desummoned. The character designs for the demons are really cool. I also think Daichi and Makoto's voice were perfect. A cast member is missing, but I am going to assume he will appear next episode.

Unfortunately, I've played the game, so the lack of suspense takes most of the joy of watching it. It's got all the earmarks of a seasonal blockbuster though, with big name VAs, high production values, etc. Though, it did seem a little too video gamey to me. As I personally hate those familiar with source material fixating on differences, I'll just say this:

Ridiculous premise aside (this is anime! ), I think it'll be a solid treat for those who watch.

I think I spot Jungo in the ED.

They don't have to go through the character arc, as long as it makes the appearance here and there in the background it's all good for me

What's the point in crashng that truck again? I was hoping for more actions in fighting that anti-piracy septetrionne but it's still good so I won't complain much.

The only thing that made me complain is the choice of words in translating 'Shining One' as 'Sparkling One'.
