I'm starting to think Aka Akasaka was holding himself back writing high school romcoms .

I guess the most fateful encounter from the start was Gorou and Sarina, a doctor and his ill patient, and their growing bond that lead Gorou to graft his admiration for Sarina onto her favorite idol, Ai-chan, becoming her fanboy in the process. And he can't deny he'd date a 16-year old idol in a heartbeat. Can this nurse become a main character? She had some of the best lines .

Rie Takahashi playing a cute and charismatic idol is one thing, that's basically playing to her immense talent, but one pregnant at 16 with twins!? Wow. But Ai is lively, energetic, a bit of a ditz, but also purely calculated and self-aware of her talent and what she wants, and how to make it in the idol industry and be who everyone needs her to be. She's an amazing liar, the peak of the lie that is the idol industry, and she wants to be a mom too .

All that talk about reincarnating as an idol's kid (and that one pudgy guy ending up with an idol? Lucky) and then it turns out that both Gorou and Sarina end up reincarnating as Ai's kids with their full consciousness and intellect intact. Will the two ever find out who they really are and the connection they once shared .

You know you're a celebrity's kid when she names you "Aquamarine" .

I admire Aqua's fortitude to not suck on Ai's breast, even if Ruby, as a girl, feels no reservation. I guess that's the benefit to being a girl and being immature (and lewd) enough to really go all in on being a baby. Also Ai has some racy underwear and big boobs .

Ai's not a naturally good mother (she can't even always remember which kids' name is which) which I guess is to be expected, but she does try which counts for a lot. Though she's also probably lucky her kids are practically grown intellectually and relatively able to take care of themselves .

Well, Saito has a pretty hot wife, even if there's no love in their marriage and all Miyako cares about is snagging a hot guy and having fun with hosts, though a scare from some "divine emissaries" in baby form ends up making her truly dedicated to the kids and even Ai, to the point where she's carrying out Ai's funeral procession and loves the kids enough to take them in. What a stark change from the beginning .

Nobody's found his body yet? I mean, maybe make an anonymous call so people know you died, dude ?

Man, people making no bones about how they really feel about idols here, not that it stops them from becoming enveloped in Ai's aura. We also got director "Sign of the Times" who educates Aqua a lot on the realities of the entertainment world and acting .

Maki, is that you!? Kana is like your classic child star, talented in baking soda...I mean, crying, and acts like a high-and-mighty professional even when she's just a kid. But she saw true talent in Aqua's skills that made her recognize how she had to improve, setting herself up as a rival .

The first real sign that Ai truly loved her children was when she was able to let out a genuine smile at seeing them there at her concert...even though the lightstick babies with their dance performance basically stole the show :teehee:.

Stars for eyes! Ai even passed that onto her children! The stars are so powerful they can not only turn on when Ai finds her career path, fade out when she dies, and even turn black with a desire for vengeance .

Ruby's got natural looks and acting talent, and even got to have a mother-daughter bonding routine to get over her lingering trauma from her past life that was holding her back, and while Aqua isn't a prodigy he can read intentions and direction like a champ and play exactly how people want him to. Truly the progeny of a world-class idol .

Ai came from a broken home. Her mother beat her, was a criminal, and basically abandoned her after she got out of jail, and Ai never truly knew what it meant to love someone or something. But she wanted to, and as much as she was lying and manipulating her image for the sake of the fans, she did want to love them too. She even became a mother to try and find love. But it was only after she was killed that she realized she truly loved her children and wanted to continue to be their mom. What a tragedy .

Poor Ai and the kids. Her murder is big news but then the usual suspects come out and say she had it coming for being with a man and then everyone just moves on like she never existed. You tell them though, Ruby .

So Ruby is going to chase after idol work in honor of her mom and her own talent, while Aqua is doing it...out of pure revenge to find their father, assuming he's the only one who could have given Ryosuke the information he needed to go after Ai. I don't think Ai would've wanted him to be so consumed, and revenge never ends well (even if the dad is the top suspect), so it'll be interesting to see where this journey in the entertainment industry takes the siblings as they enter their high school years .

Finding time to watch an 80+ minute first episode is kinda hard when you're used to ~22 minutes. Pretty epic way to start the series regardless.

Perfect adaptation of the first volume. To bad only one cour announced so far so it won't be the best place to end the season but I really hope we'll get more in future so they can adapt up to "Tokyo Blade" arc final at least.

@Frontier Kana is really a mirror image of Maki from Kaguya chracter wise. People even wanted the same VA to voice her, but nope. Also, just a minor detail, but Oshi no Ko takes place in the same setting as Kaguya just around 10 years later (I mean the part that will start in the next episode).

Well I went into this blind thinking it would be some funny, weird, wish fulfillment, comedy anime after only the seeing the trailers (which fucking lies) only to receive an emotional soul crushing gut punch.

So if I were to keep going with this is it going to be nothing but straight tragedy after tragedy?

Most of the story is like 70% insight on different aspects of JP showbiz and 30% detective thriller about Aqua trying to find his father and bring him down. It is not 100% drama, but it has a lot of dark moments, though, it has comedy ones too.

Since the only "idol anime" that I like before this were Perfect Blue & White Album (yes, the first one), this OnK show that actually dives deeper into the real/dark/nasty side of idol/entertainment industry is right up my alley.

Also, is Aqua going to be a "grown Detective Conan" in this show? If yes then I can't wait

For lack of a better comparison its kinda like Skip Beat! with more edge and less romance. Just like Ai everyone is trying to 'make it' in the Japanese media industry, for one reason or another.

Well that's good to know. If it were people lives being destroyed every episode I probably wouldn't be able to take it.

Yea there is a lot potential here, however I have to ask the question once again. Did we really need the isekai plot twist for this story? Will the story just end up just forgetting about it and this whole thing could've just been told through the eyes of normal kids?
