Radiant [Fall 2018]

French manga 'Radiant' is apparently getting an anime adaptation from NHK.

Plot Summary:
Quote:
Seth is an aspiring sorcerer from the Pompo Hills area. Like all wizards, he is an "infected": one of the few living beings who survived the contact of the Nemesis, these creatures fallen from the sky that contaminate and decimate all those they touch. His apparent immunity made him choose a path which seemed to him to be all the more appropriate: to become a Hunter and to fight the Nemesis. But more than that, Seth wants to engage in a quest that goes beyond the simple hunt for monsters ... He wants to find the Radiant, their presumed cradle. Surrounded by a faction of sorcerers, he traveled the world in search of the Ra

Wow, French comic as a source material - that's rare.

Huh. I wonder who pulled what strings for this to happen - is this a trial run for some sort of a new collaboration deal?

I also wonder why this comic in particular. I've never heard of it before so I might be mistaken but from the description this seems like a pretty paint-by-the-numbers story. Then again, that means it's a safe choice, it fits NHK's profile, and NHK being what it is doesn't need to worry about disc sales anyway. (But one would think that if they adapt a French comic they'd get something with more of a certain... je ne sais quoi. )

In any case I'm curious to see how this will turn out.

It does make sense in that the French buy more manga per capita than any other Western country. Plus we had the very successful Ghibli collaboration on The Red Turtle, amd there are a number of French animators working in the anime industry. I wonder if this will end up at Satelight.

Well, the manga is officially translated in Japanese and rather popular apparently. I'm actually really curious now to see the passage from French to Japanese in the anime form. (and perhaps manga form if I see them in a library one day)

Just came here to ask if this was really happening, because it's been a couple of days and I haven't seen any official announcements (and even the title seems unknown to Animate Times, Comic Natalie, etc). Oh well.

Wow, it looks pretty good, but NHK animes are usually well done, so no wonder.

Tgis seems generic, but a fun kind of generic. It made me realize I actually like shonen MCs being voiced by women, specially when it doesn't "make sense".
