Good old David Akers nailed a 63 yarder. Damn, wish the Eagles still had him.

He hit it, but I wouldn't say nailed it. It did bounce off the pylon, you know.

yeah, well hitting a 63 yarder in of itself is good no matter how it goes in as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly I'm still flabbergasted that they ever gave up Akers. Looking at how Henry has choked quite a few times it makes it feel all the worse. Guy has and will always be my favorite kicker of all-time.

Ruh-oh, the replacement refs may have given the Seahawks a 4th timeout on this final drive.

Cardinals hold, controversy averted.

First win in Green Bay since 1990. Steve Young couldn't even accomplish that. I'm glad the 49ers were focused. Last year they played big in big games, and that has carried over so far. Could still do better on third downs, but so far so good.

And the score really should have been 30-15. Bad officiating crew on all sides.

But whatever. Alex Smith had a good game and the offensive line looked good early in the contest at least. Bowman helped us out when we really needed it. And now it's off to play the Lions back here at Candlestick.

Good to see the Skins are starting strong. Though the 2nd half was something.

Yeah, and let's not forget about that epic ground game (186 yards), if the ground game keeps performing this well, we might have a shot at breaking the all-time single season Rushing record set by the New England Patriots in 1978 of 3,165 yards on the ground.

They played against what was the second worst defense last year, got good stats, and now you're talking about breaking 35 year old season-long records? Chill your jets.

That is quite the high goal.

If Brandon Jacobs and Frank Gore play at roughly the same level as they did last year, and Kendall Hunter improves to the extent I think he will (I'm thinking about 850-900 yards), then it's actually seems possible once you factor the likely contributions from the minor rushers.

I don't see that happening. But the ground game was dominant today. Anytime you rush close to 200 yards you should win the game.

By the way I hate how everyone overlooks Frank Gore. He's 29, but he's clearly not done. Folks think he's old and over the hill.

Buffalo rushed 190 yards between all their RBs (169 from Spiller alone). They lost wholesale.

Keyword should. Four turnovers will obviously screw you over.

It's certainly not guaranteed, but it's still a definite possibility if things go right. And I agree with you about Frank Gore, and I actually think he's going to be around for at least another five seasons after this year. (Though he'll probably end up conceding the No.1 Rusher slot to Kendall Hunter at some point before then)

Turns out it was also the first year of the 16-game schedule, too.

The Patriots showed a running game for the first time in years. Stevan Ridley had 125 yards in 21 carries against the Titans along with another 27 receiving yards. The Pats scoring drive near the end of the third quarter started at the TEN 48 and consisted of two short passes by Brady and the rest was Ridley. Brady and a running game? Scary.

So can someone explain to me how the Jets, who I thought had largely been written off this season, could trounce the Bills, who many saw as the up-and-coming threat to the Pats' dominance in the AFC East? Any thoughts, FDW?

I'm not saying you're wrong. i thought Fitzpatrick and the Bills looked like formidable competitors down the stretch last season. So what happened today?

Nice to see the Niners win.
