Battle Vixens (Ikkitousen)

Anybody else reading this?

I just finished the first volumes and all I can say is... great stuff

The manga stays quite close to the anime concerning storyline and characters. Hakufu is still an idiot, but she's just that bit smarter than in the anime, all the other main chars remain the same, although Ryomou is even nastier thatn usual .
The story (so far) is better explained than in the anime, (at least to me that is). It's still confusing with all the different schools and stuff but so far it's ok.
Action scenes are plenty and well drawn, of course they content is rather ... ecchi it is Ikkitousen after all. So, as in the anime, the fabric of the clothing isn't all that , combats are cool however.

Oh well, just wondering about other people's opinions on this one

Is it being scanlated?
I dont know itf its out for sale here, but I think if I would decide to buy a manga of that kind I would go for tenjo tenge.
Those two animes/mangas seem so alike somehow that you can only base your decision on the artworks.

Of course not. At least not in English.

Tokyopop licensed the series a while back (and stupidly retitled the series.)

No it is licensed and Tokypop has several volumes out allready. I don't know if it's for sale in germany but seeing as you live in Aachen, just cross the border and go to Liège (Luttich), (only some 25-30 km across the border), the anime shops there sure have it. Also you could order it online, here is where I got mine.

@microlith, yeah the name change is pretty lame but I guess Tokypop thought it would sell better that way. At least Geneon (who has the anime) didn't change the name and the first DVD is out allready as well , woohoo :happy dance:

Hm, I cant find any Ikkitousen pics online that are labeled manga..
Ikkitousen wallpapers <- are these pics taken from the manga covers or manga artwork?

because if I compare those to Tenjo Tenge artwork, I must say that Tenjo Tenge beats Ikkitousen by far. Of course I still need to find some manga samples to compare the normal black and white art...

The pages look good, the covers are ok.

But not only did they change the name into something stupid, they also took this one great cover
Spoiler:

and changed into this
Spoiler:
! What does that stupid dragon think hes doing there?

That's a bad premise for the rest of the editing.

I haven't heard Puck mention anything about editing the images... besides, with a title like 'Battle Vixens' if they don't have sex with the dragon at least twice every volume I'm going back to my local porn shop and returning that god damned video...

I liked Ikkitousen even though it seems they stole panels from OH!Great's Tenjo Tenge

http://www.theslayer.com.br/imagens/.../ten_ikki1.gif
http://www.theslayer.com.br/imagens/.../ten_ikki2.gif
http://www.theslayer.com.br/imagens/.../ten_ikki3.gif

They storyline differs somwhat. I didn't really didn't like the anime, it seems that they should have run a full 22 ep for it instead of 13, because it looks rushed, snd the ending was lame.

As for Tokyopop's Battle Vixens well, they have the bad luck of having Kieth Giffen as English Adapter. Keith Giffen has to be one of the worst English Adapters ever. His slang is so wierd, that I have to read the bubbles 2 and 3 times to understand what the hell he is trying to say.

Battle Vixens Vol.2 Page 146
Shigi to Hakufu
" 'Less you got more goin' F' Y' than them titties, I'd advise stayin' down F' Th' count. Dig?"

WTF

IMO, Tokyopop needs to fire him, burn everything he's worked on and rerelease what he's finished.

Hey snoopy, As far as I have seen, the manga images have not been edited(plenty of nudity and implied sex). The Manga is kept in its right to left format. The coloring looks diffent than the Chinese manga I have but whatever.

Tokyopop butchers translations/localizations, they rarely, if ever, change the actual images (at least not recently)
the cover change was so they could sell it on bookstore shelves without churchladies banning their books and causing a book burning (even though i look right behind me and see covers just as racey in the sci fi section at my local B&N)
and those "stolen panels"...well they're fairly common fighting-manga poses/attacks, i think i saw something similar in Real Bout (albeit toned down...since Real Bout is like Ikkitousen/Tenjou Tenge Jr....-_-) and maybe some other martial arts comics...

and i'm pretty mad about the slang in Ikkitousen (battle vixens) too (IT MAKES NO SENSE!!!) i'd truly have a better chance at understanding it if i read the japanese version...well, i can't read most kanji...and i don't think Ikkitousen uses furigana

I agree, but at first sight the slang isn't as bad as it was in GetBackers. After a while I kinda skip the slang and get on with the story, I really like Ikkitousen (I seem to be the only one ), so i won't let 1 translator stop me

I thought that too at first, but if you read Tenjo Tenge then Ikkitousen, you will notice similiarites that are more than just coincidence, Even some of the "Dragon Poses" are mirrored

Remember Tenjo Tenge came out in 98, Ikkitousen came out 2000.

I am glad we agree on Tokyopop's Translations. I have heard similiar complaints from people who purchased Battle Royale & GTO. I feel bad for all the dissapointed people who shelled out good money to buy these titles.

There are good English Tokyopop mangas out there (Skullman, King of Hell, XDay, Real bout HS & Scryed) but this manga didn't luck out. I am still going to keep following the story even with the annoying adaptation.

What scares me is that it is rumored that Giffen is going to be working with CMX, which may lead him to Tenjo Tenge

i can safely say the crater punching scenes (including the wall smack) are just pure coincidence. Those are actually anime/manga cliches that date back WAAAAY before TenTen and Ikki, hell they do it in dragonball.
Giffen? CMX? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Boss: Ok so who are we have work on Tenjho Tenge (not a typo, that's how they're spelling it...phonetically wrong) hmmm Mr. Giffen, you have experience with high school fighting manga-thingies, so we're gonna let you do it
Giffen: Yo yo wazzap bitzs i do it old school dig?
Boss: I have no idea what you just said, but good luck!

"Parental Advisory"? ok not that i didn't see it coming from a mile away (honestly, if ANY manga were deserving of a sticker like that, it'd be Ikkitousen) but seriously, why not just put the same sticker next to all the medieval/renaissance pictures depicting men and women in the nude
i think we'd run out of stickers
anime i can understand since it moves and speaks like television, but if they start censoring manga (again) there're going to be a lot of "art vs. porn" issues again
again, i'm not saying Ikkitousen doesn't deserve it though

I wanted to check this series out just for the mindless fanservice of it but Tokyopop's translation is just plain awful. Even the title translation is lame - Battle Vixens?

*bump*

Just finished reading vol 12.

I definitely echo you guys who said this manga reminds me of Tenjou Tenge. But maybe because I have some background knowledge of the Three Kingdoms, I find this plot to be a lot easier to follow than Tenten's.

It's not a great manga, but it's decent.

I also read 5 volumes of the other series written by Yuji, Battle Club, and I think this one is better as well.

p.s. Battle Vixens is the worst name ever. They surely could have done better with the name conversion.

Great manga. Problem is why did they needed to rename it?

Oh well licensing, trademarks...etc. At least we can see the MORE ECCHIER part of Ikki Tousen.

Btw is there a Battle Club manga thread? It seems as good as Battle Vixens, but more ecchier.
