Humour was a little off for me but everyone has their tastes, that's not stopping me from watching it though as I do like the characters a lot

Please tell me that was not a deliberate pun in the context of the subject of the series.

That being said, if you enjoy the series do give the source manga a try if so inclined. In some ways the art is even better...at least for me it is, though it is very...erm...appropriately(?) animated here.

Someone remind me, has Taketatsu voiced other characters with this voice range? Because Hotaru sounds a lot like Hirano Aya's Haruhi to me.

EDIT: Episode preview is out. Cards and Nama beer next!

EDIT2: I see the anime and the manga as its own thing. The manga relies a lot on high speed gags but I like the normalcy and slower pace of the anime as well.

PS: I kinda know what they were eating, but was wondering why they combined the flavors... and if it actually does taste good or taste like crap.

I'm sure there's natto candy somewhere but umaibou isn't candy. Dagashi is more on the lines of 'cheap snacks' overall.
Umaibou is a thick corn puff with a flavor in the middle. Used to have cheese flavor all the time. (Different brand though)

I found a blog btw where someone actually tried baking it and it tasted great. Kokonotsu: Dagashi genius.

The first episode already felt like 30 minutes maybe was too much time for this show and the second ep just confirmed it to me. I don't know if the problem here is the original work or the director of the show, because 4-koma adaptations have worked wonderfully as 30min shows before...but this episode was kinda boring.

I understand you need culture background (dagashi) to truly appreciate what's going on, but this episode still felt boring (the first half of the B part...) and that things are overall moving too slow.

I'll give the show at least one more episode because I love the characters and the character design. Hopefully it gets better.

This episode shows how Dagashi works, more than a half of each chapter - episode in this case - full of explanations and tips about candies which is really boring, some of bad jokes - not funny at all - and the good part is just the interaction between Saya, coconuts and hotaru.

It is not bad but this is supposed to be a comedy and Dagashi fails in this aspect.

I wonder if there's a larger amount of manga readers or anime only watchers who find this series funny. On Twitter there's lots of people saying it is interesting, interspersed with people who say it makes them sleepy/too many anime original parodies/pacing kills it.

For the record, the slower pace makes it feel like an anime out in the boonies, with how 'slow' it is. And the gags are still funny, they just aren't rapid fire like the manga.

EEDIT: For reference the only anime I felt just didn't work was Nichijou.

Hmm, I haven't read the manga but I do agree with the posts above. Something just feels...off, like the anime isn't going anywhere and the comedy aspect is falling a little short which is probably why i'm personally not finding it all that funny

After watching two episodes and someone asked me if I would recommend it to them, I would tell them to watch for the characters more than anything else.

I think I prefer the interactions between Saya and Coconut- er, I mean Kokonotsu more than with Hotaru. The main character feels more natural with Saya and the two work well together whereas with Hotaru she seems to take the lead the majority of the time and makes no sense half the time

That being said, Hotaru is an interesting character nonetheless. She has a powerful mind that's able to convince her that she's drunk

Also Gun Whistle senpai looked a little shady 0_0 He's seen some things...gone through lot

The card flipping game reminds me a bit the card flipping game on this Korean game show, the latter one uses thicker, square-shaped card and play via 1vs.1 (card) through...

time to try to explain:
This anime is a parody focused on snacks.
Houtaru is a chuunibyou of snacks
All the episodes will be focused on snacks like a merchandise of snacks each episode will be focused in talk about one type of snack
romance here is near 0, is full crush over hotaru but never able to express it since hotaru only have snacks in her head the other girl have little screen time(she not will be present on each episode or even close to it unless "fillers") for peoples which are watching only for her.

The focus is away mc and hotaru having a talk about snacks and hotaru doing crazy things while "coconotsu kun watch her weirdness.

Then for peoples which are expectating romance focus you are wasting your time, for peoples which are expectating a more "serious or complex" plot you also is wasting your time, this serie will be "the episode of the week" type with a lot of gag and crazy things on the focus.

With this in mind this serie is for peoples which are looking for "funny and weird things' and absurdity with funny characters.
