Fate/stay night Episode 14 Discussion thread

I forgot to watch the ED. The episode ended too sadly for me. I didn't notice that it was a new one either lol.

However, after uncovering Archer's identity, the bits and pieces scattered throughout not only this episode, but some of the earlier episodes as well, all came together and made much more sense.

One question,

Hercules Noble Phantasm is a body that can withstand A++ attack levels 12 times

I missed this part. Were Hercules's abilities explained anywhere in the episodes? And then this means he's about half finished now lol

Whooo, Archer took Beserker out for a spin before he fell fighting. He get's my vote for being the coolest and stylish looking servant. Junichi Suwabe does a kickass job voicing for Archer too.

Now I am curious as to Archer's identity since he spoke to Illa as if he knew her.

Er......look through the episode again. It really is obvious as to who Archer really is. And its not as if Archer knows Ilya. Archer REALLY knows Ilya. Now that should be enough to answer your question right?

Ok....just watched the subbed episode. Seems no matter how hard Archer tries to shake off, Archer can never forget his true identity. Shirou really should go kill himself if he didn't get Archer's last words into his head. And after watching the episode again, I gotta say Archer really is one of the strongest servent out there. He may not be as strong as Saber or Berserker, but his UBW is more than enough to kill other servents. Too bad his opponent this time is Berserker. It really is great to see Ilya's face when she mentioned how Berserker got defeated 5 times.....by one servent. A pity no one in the anime realise his true identity. I'll actually love to see Ilya and Rin's reaction when they realise it. Ilya might ended up forcing Archer to become her servent.

Well... I didn't think I'd do this, but I have. Perfect 10. It doesn't quite deserve a 10 but 9.8 is a bit hard to give, and I'd rather round this one up than down. Just a few brief moments that could have been touched up - a lá the Archer Wings Pose™ - to be a little less cheesy.

Now, this episode has made me even more optimistic about my large relationship post I wrote a few episodes ago - but I'll have to tag it as spoilered.

Spoiler for Archer, Rin:

A problem that several people had with my idea was that 'Shirou shows no feelings towards Rin!' and that he was obviously developing such feelings towards Saber. I did provide initial examples of said feelings, and have also responded to the Saber arguments, but this episode resolves the issue nicely.

Look at Archer's flashbacks. Who are the people he is thinking about all the way through, that he is remembering? Look at the ending 'montage' with the shot of Rin existing as it does from the game, sitting on the desk in the sunset. Look at the pendant that Archer has, that was used to revive Shirou back at the start of the anime.

Archer still has a deep emotional attachment to Rin. He has kept her pendant, he thinks of her in his dying moments, and he remarks that he thought he had 'lost these' - which to me, is his way of saying he thought he had forgotten his memories and his feelings - of being human and being in love.

I can see a rather dim snapshot of where Fate/stay night could go with this relationship, and it saddens me. Perhaps I'll write it up and put it in the speculation thread, when I've clarified a few more things. But at any rate, to those who have guessed Archer's identity or who know it, and are thinking that Shirou has no feelings towards Rin - episode 14 points in the exact opposite direction.

Added that to Shirou himself being very compassionate towards Rin... and a bit more affirmation of Rin's feelings (if she knows whom Archer is, she hasn't mentioned it for a while...) when she says farewell, and then she mourns his 'death'... Straight Fate? Not necessarily

I wouldn't really say that. Shirou and Archer and still very much different people. Shirou is young and idealistic; Archer is bitter and hateful towards his former self for the path he chose. They may technically be the same people, but their mindsets are so different that they could pass off as different people.

I think Archer kept Rin's pendant as a reminder. Who knows what happened to him in his life after the Grail War? Further more, who knows what happened to Rin? His feelings could mean that he loves her, but I don't think Archer is really the type of person to harbor feelings of love... anymore.

And that's all I can really say. Shirou and his relationships with the three main heroines would be a nice topic that I'm sure would have plenty of discussion though. Someone should propose it

That's why I find Archer saying that he thought he'd 'forgotten' any feelings or memories so touching. He had changed, and he had moved on, into bitterness at his own choices etc - but from the anime episode it appears that he still did harbour those feelings to some extent. Not necessarily in any forgrounded sense anymore, nor necessarily very intensely - but he does remember feeling them, which I think is especially implicit in the scenes chosen, and the shots chosen in the final.

Bottom line is that I don't think that Archer is in love with Rin, but I think that he remebers being in love with Rin. As for Rin & Shirou, I kinda detailed a few thoughts about it here. And I might request a relationships thread... but it'd be a very self indulgent request.

This was such a damn good episode. I mean wow, the fight was jsut amazing goign to be hard for any upcoming battles to top this.

Question, it said that Hercules was defeated 5 times from Archer. I what were they? I only saw 4 times when Archer pwned Hercules. Once with the arrow, then 4 swords spinning in the air hitting him when he got stuck, dual welding swords and slashing him, and the end with Hercules hving like 20 swords impaled in him.

Also how the hell did Archer injury his left arm, it like got busted after he dual welded and slashed Hercules.

As for Rin, I feel bad for her since shes been training for this War ever since she was little and to be taken out already. I doubt she will give up and goto the church where they protected defeated master. Looks like she will continue with Shirou. Man im looking forward to the upcoming episodes and the preview looks pretty damn interesting.

She mean't five times within Unlimited Blade Works, not anything before that.

you could say b/c of my fangirl-ness...i actually had some tears after i found out about this episode...so sad...poor archer..

so i rate this episode....it should be a 1/10 : painful...i know i know, its not that kind of "painful"...but it was "painful" for me TT_TT. i havent watched it yet but i heard the animation was wonderful and the music was awesome too...so that will bring it up 1 mark. my final rating is 2/10

now im going to go cry in a corner...j/k...but still...nooo

when you see rin ontop of saber, im thinking like rins all pissed b/c archer died and she blaming saber for dragging rin and archer along to save shirou (even though she kinda didnt) and its like one of those scenes where the person knocks her on the bed..."why?..yadadadada" i would call it the asucaga "kill b/c someone was killed" moment, rins gets ready to punch saber type thing.

Well, at least he died fighting. From the skills he showcased, he looks fully capable of slaughtering a whole ot of other servants. Unfortunate that it was Beserker he faced. If not, it would have been over fast and hard.

Yeah, Archer should have his own thread. There's so many things to talk about just on his identity and ability. And yeah, I've been trying to say Archer really is one of the most powerful servents. Forget about Berserker but normal servents would have already died once Archer used his reality marble.

I remember reading somewhere that Shirou has always loved Rin. It might be the sudden appearance of Saber but before Saber appeared, Shirou seems to have a certain affection towards Rin. Yeah sure, Shirou may prefer Saber now but hey, Saber will have to go one day. So I supposed we can assume that somewhere in the future, Shirou's feelings for Rin grew and those feelings are being brought forward even when Shirou became a heroic spirit. Since the start of the episode, Archer seemed bitter, lonely and all but his devotion to Rin never change. If nothing changes along the way, then we can safely assume that Shirou will grow into Archer in the future with the same feelings and all

Wow.... that episode was AWESOME... the problem now is, unless they have a "special" episode with some seriously crazy fighting and deaths... it will be nearly impossible to top this one :P I hope Ilya gets slaughtered

We all feel your pain, and I got a lot a little misty myself. He was really something in the episode, however. Look at all those tens.

I thought about you while doing an Archer post in the image thread earlier today. I included a lot of Archer/Rin in hopes of making you feel a bit better.

If Ilya had known Archer's true identity, would she had continued to order Berserker to kill Archer?
