Spoiler for final thoughts:

Phew, the end to a great adventure.
Despite the fact they were only given 2-cour, the staff was able to do what was needed and reanimated the story well.
You could tell that the staff loved the original source, and you could tell why such an old story was getting yet another anime.
And man, they played one of the theme songs from the old anime in the last episode too!

It was light-hearted and easy to watch, but it also had some interesting and surprisingly serious themes, such as how the power of love ended up sealing the guy for so long.
Also, it balanced its male-female ratio as far as treatment goes, where you get cute girls and cool guys. And both have their shares of fanservice and embarassment.
The story also had a enjoyable sense of humor, such as using strange poses for light magic and weird cat totems that act like magic jammers.

But most importantly, the story went all the way to the end.
Unlike those anime out there that advertise the original source for the sake of advertising the original source.
And of course those anime out there that try to be more than they could ever be.

It was a fantasy adventure where the hero goes out and defeats the big baddy to save the world.
None of that Narou-Light Novel "I was from the real world" crap. The protagonist was born in this world.
And while people may shallow-ly write off a story because it "isn't unique" (those people surely would enjoy watching Guilty Crown or Kabeneri, eh?)
, but they don't realize that it is actually hard to write good traditional stories.

Anyways, a great anime. While it can be said that if there was only another cour, they would have time to fit in more content,
but it did great with the time given, even if it made the story often go at a high speed.
An important point here to note is that despite going at a high speed, it made the story seem natural.
Not the "Wow, that was rushed", but "Wow, the story is quick".

Oh, and instead of using something like Yaraon, Animenewsnetwork or the such would be a far better and believable source...

Loved this show.
All characters are lovable (even the weirdos), the humour is great, and it has a solid story. The bgm was brilliant throughout the series. Also, I really enjoyed the visual style of the show. It had retro feeling to it, but at the same time it didn't appear dated.

As someone who used to watch and enjoy the first animated series I'm really glad they made this and giving to this series a proper conclusion.

The last episode was a very good mix of epicness and comedy.

Never would I have thought that a Deus ex Machina would have been summoned for solving the hero's... internal problems...

This show was a masterpiece of anime. This thing must be a project of love from truly dedicated fans. The ending was heart warming and I recognized the song from seeing the original few years ago. ⎝ > ͜ʖ < ⎠

This series is one of a kind. It would be great if there was more but this level of animation is almost asking too much.
