Then try reading the afterword of volume 9? It clearly says 最終巻 (final volume) and ended with　完 (complete) when every other novel ended with 了 (end).

If you mean a 'reliable English source,' then you're out of luck, because those 'reliable' sources are all updated by fans to begin with. The only actual source I can provide is the novel itself, in Japanese.

Like I said, I'm still 3 volumes behind (only read the afterword for volume 9 to see if it ended), but the afterword also mentions that the author didn't expect it to go as far as 9 volumes to begin with, as in the series got extensions. So I imagine it wasn't too rushed, whether or not it was a good ending aside.
