Spoiler for Chapter 3 - Part 7-15:

Another Object with a nasty weapon. Ever since vol 5 I had wondered if Kamachi would actually make an Object with a microwave Object-class weapon. The Oriental Magic/Kali is also another of those Objects that have a defensive gimmick, those are always cool.

Putana's change of heart was expected since she's being treated better now by the Legitimacy Kingdom, didn't expect them to actually apologize by allowing her to sink the Collective Farming/Sarasvati, seems like a waste, but I guess it's her Object.

“P-Putana?”

“Please don’t get yourself killed. Then I can’t do it myself.”

Putana had apparently become a tsundere.

The novel is also very blunt with how she's acting, which I found funny.

I think this makes it the third time Kamachi has gone into the theme of resources drying up and the first time it drives the main plot of a novel.

Spoiler for Rest of Chapter 3, Epilogue and Afterword:

The novel is over. I liked it, the chapter 1's Object theft and chapter 3's conflict with the Kali and the Nataraja were really good. Chapter 2 was good enough and it had some nice references to previous novels, but the enemy Object and the situation didn't have the same impact than Quenser and Heivia stealing an Object or the battle in the next chapter.

I was surprised that Putana ended up not blowing up the Sarasvati. Let's see if she ends up coming back when the LK makes a new Object for her. Kamachi finally brought up the Faith Organization's obvious problems of bringing all major religions under 1 banner. Heavy Object is a simple action comedy of two guys beating insurmountable odds, but it's nice that Kamachi shows he's aware of that.

The Afterword was, as usual with Kamachi, really interesting and informative.

This may be sudden, but I have a habit of intentionally leaving black boxes in my series.

Some of the readers might be wondering why I would do something so strange, but cutting some things out like that leaves the flexibility to fit many different ideas inside the series. That’s the wonderful thing about those black boxes.

Yeah, I think anyone who actually follows Kamachi's novels has noticed this. I often wonder if some of the small holes he leaves in the Index timeline are because he's planning to fill them up later with SS or in any of the spinoff manga.

Anyway, this story was set in a single city, so the each chapter focused on the passage of time instead of a change of setting. I think Putana’s position was the most obvious example, but actions of Mustard Cowboy Leader George Coral and the other residents of the city were constantly changing.

The residents given in bold may have interacted with the protagonists and may not have, but that was to make it feel like one big city. I constructed the story so you could find out what happened to them or who they really were as you read each consecutive chapter.

So that was the meaning of those guys! Looking back it makes sense. For example: Woman in Dress (actually a crosdresser) from Chapter 2 was revealed to be the same rumored Sniper from Chapter 1 in Chapter 3. The Jeweler or George Coral's fall from glory are also good background stories.

The legends say all of the stars in the night sky are her eyes, so you can see how Hindu legends are a wonderful treasure trove for things that appeal very, very, very much to the chuuni mind.

I don't know much about Hindu legends, but everything I've heard of them does seem to make them perfect chuuni fuel.

Unlike the Princess or the Oh Ho Ho, Putana Highball is the kind of Elite whose skills can be used in direct combat as well. The other two Elites are unbeatable in their Objects, but they can be dealt with if you aim a gun at them while they’re outside of their Objects. That will not work with Putana.

She could be a cool secret agent if the Elite thing doesn't work out. That or a bike stuntwoman.

On that note, the most dangerous person in this series might be Mariydi Whitewitch who has the same specs as an Elite but isn’t bound like an Elite. She can’t defeat an Object, but I think she would be a thorough pain in the butt if she infiltrated the enemy safe country controlling the Object.

I guess Kamachi is going to keep using her. Cool. Putana's performance out of her Object does remind me of Mariydi handling herself just fine out of a plane.

The other theme this time was genius boys and girls. And not just as allies to consult with or targets of protection. They can become pure enemies as well. But when you think about it, they’re human, so it seems to me there’s going to be good ones and bad ones. Unconditionally rejecting someone’s malice feels like turning them into a doll to me.

It is weird to see a genius kid as the clear bad guy and not just misguided, but as Kamachi says, unfortunately intelligence doesn't always equals being a good person.

Speaking of technological geniuses, the series has already shown Sladder Honeysuckle in Adoption War and Claire Whist in Path to the Third Generation. Compare this to them, and you might see what position geniuses hold in the series. It really is like the good and evil gods of polytheism. Quenser uses his skills to destroy Objects and protect the social system, so from the polytheistic perspective, is it possible he could grow into the same position as a god of destruction?

The good and evil god analogy is fitting. Object Designer Quenser joins Evil Scientist Shinobu and Demon King Touma as possible bad versions of Kamachi protagonists.

The term Hand Axe never actually showed up even once.

I mean come on, those who build and maintain objects need credit too, and a real military advice: Don't piss off any of your engineers, be it combat, maintenance, armory, never, cause before you know it, there's already a C4 in your bed, and your gun is set to explode.

I always play combat engineer in games, MCV is my favorite vehicle, and being the subversive instead of the powerhouse is the best. Cause when the powerhouse runs out of juice, the subversive plays.
