Been reading the novels for this and there's tons of chapters. I'm up to 300+ now but the anime captured the mood pretty well.
We got the cast introduced including Mile, Nano-chan, Mavis, Reina, etc introduced from the first episode. I find the series taking a fun run with the isekai tropes. Not a show to be taken too seriously but I find it actually quite entertaining. The animation quality looks fine, nothing great but works for this show. First episode is up on Crunchyroll now.

It was OK, but I honestly feel they could've done better at presenting some plot points. Maybe it'll be presented better later when they finally flash back and show her life before when she was in Brandel, maybe even show the situation that led her to entering the prep school.

It is probably because (as the anime lampshades) the real start was as boring and stereotypical as can be. The manga also changed the beginning substantively (though not quite as much as this) so as not to lose the audience before they had a chance to watch it

For those who were storming up a fuss in the Honzuki thread about isekai, feel free to come over here and bash this series instead. Unlike Ascendance of a Bookworm that actually tells a compelling story and uses its isekai foundation well, I Said Make My Abilities Average is a pure popcorn modern isekai power fantasy. It's fun in a simple kind of way, but never even considers trying to break the mold.
They're definitely taking some liberties with how this begins, though. Anyway... Mile, you're 12. Stop acting surprised when people call you a kid.

well abou the "average" its the common, "bad wish" or not proper explained wish", she forget the most basic rule of the "wish", becarefull with what you wish for... you can ending get it, which means, if she don't proper "explain exactly what she want then the wish can be pretty generic" as it need" which was the case here, she don't proper say what she wanted to means which "average" is the same of you came and say "make me big", then you find out which or you become a giganormous giant or grow just 1 cm or 1mm, the same goes here as it was explained the god used the "fantasy world" power rank to choose the "average" level of power to her, then let's say if the lowest or weaker creature have only 1 of power level and the strongest have 10000, then the "average around it will be 5000 even if only one creature in this world have 10000 because he is the "max", as they explained that was the trick, she was supposed to ask to be "average" as a average hero in this world or common human or something like that, that was she get the abnormal power level while she still behind the strongest creature in the world she still "above almost everything else" because the "average" level between the top and the bottom is her current level of power. In this case it's a matter of the world's standards. It's not mentioned in the episode, but their standards of "adulthood" are different. When you turn ten you're considered mature enough to work and train; there are kids who become Hunters (adventurers) at ten, or who start working at a shop or other places. When you turn fifteen you're considered a full legal adult. So Mile's in the middle area, where one isn't entirely a "child" anymore as they've entered the workforce in a legitimate professional capacity, but one isn't legally a full adult either. And compared to the brats that the freak had been collecting she's far more mature.
And I'd have to disagree with Wanderer. While I have nothing against Honzuki, I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this series as dull or lacking in story, and in any case it's more focused on humor and poking fun at things, which it does well. It's not worth bashing any more than Ascendance. |

Just re-watched and yeah, not a great start. Part of the problem with doing an anime-original intro: you end up showing just how bad the studio's writers suck at writing.
Another point I noticed they screwed up was the description of Mile's power level. In it they seem to suggest that Mile's ability to cast without incantation is because of her absurd power, which is entirely incorrect. Both novel and manga make it clear that actually anyone can do it, as the nanomachines simply respond to the mental image being radiated by the caster; at most incantations just help solidify the image. Magical thinking led people to become convinced that it works through incantation. Mile just happens to know she doesn't need incantations, so she doesn't use them except to hide that fact. Also, I'm not so sure FUNA is a guy. Everything I'd seen and read seemed so suggest FUNA's a woman. |
