Shirayuki's infatuation with Souta has so far been played mostly for laughs, and Ibara hasn't really been in the game at all. That leaves Akazukin - but she has both Souta and Val / Cain, and could conceivably go either way if the latter ever rediscovers his human form.

I agree with you, Ringo's best advantage is the fact that she's actually from the same world as Souta. Gretel does have a certain soft spot for Souta, though, and in many respects she represents an ideal compromise between Akazukin and Ringo; she can (and does) fight to protect Souta, she's handy at cooking and domestic duties, and is neither exhaustingly enthusiastic nor a total tsundere. She does have a somewhat fatalistic, depressive streak that the other two mostly lack, but Souta seems to have a talent for comforting her and pulling her out of it (which Gretel herself recognises).

Well, if Souta goes back to Erde he's probably going to need a bit of protection in case someone else later decides to come after the Key; given that the Four-Leaf Knights have regular duties of their own, "Erika" might not be a bad choice for the job at all. Unlikely to happen, though, especially assuming (as in the ED) that Hansel comes around by the end.

Very touching episode. Showing how close friends Gretel comes with Akazukin and co.
And finally what we're waiting for...Hansel's free from black magic keeping him under Cendrillons control.

As I was thinking yes those Gretels mittens are really Gauntlets of strength +25 for using Missing Glaive. Sorry though that sword was destroyed.

I'm expecting that we'll see Gretel and Hansel coming to help later after couple eps.

Whoa, episode 35 was definitely the darkest and most violent episode so far.

Not one, but two characters are killed in this one.
Even the cute "see you" screen at the end of episode before the ED song is changed, as the last thing we see is Cendrillion.
We finally see how and why Marlene changes to Cendrillion. I just wonder is her boyfriend really dead, or is there a way to bring him back.

Ep. 35 was great. I certainly hope that Souta wasn't set up from the very beginning (his birth). Cendrillon would definitely have been smart to raise Erde's key to sympathize her side and then bring him over to officially join the 2 worlds.

That would also mean that Souta was living a lie and that would be why his dad didn't prevent him from leaving Erde. Poor kid.

So I'd watched up to Gretel's intro back when they first aired, then stopped watching because I could no longer see it at home and my PSP wouldn't accept any re-encodes I tried.

So in the past week I've been tanking it. Although it starts off pretty crappy I've gotta admit, I'm absolutely hooked. Now that I'm caught up with T-N's release I'll check here without fear of unmarked spoilers.

So that said, yeah, I can totally see why people suggested this to me. The heroes and villains are both so easy to work work with and understand. It's almost like either side winning would be fine with me.

I just watched 36 and 37 and I can't help but think that Ringo is going to be the key to victory. They have already shown that love is stronger than magic, so I think that her love for Souta will allow them to prevail.

What comes to second season, this was already so long... and who would be enemy and it feels like they are getting strings together with quite satisfactory way so what is left for second season?

Yep sure why not, more Akazukin is always better, lets just hope that if it comes they are resourceful with compiling new set of enemies, stories and jokes.

In spite of that I might just watch it because of Akazukin.

So there is going to be 39? I hope that this is the end. I just watched ep. 28-33 last night. Man, talk about really having some heavy moments here. Especially, episodes 30 & 31. I'm going to be finishing up the last half tonight and then just wait for the last 2. Provided it's going to end around 39.

I hope that there will be some things resolved. Like who 'Souta's mom is, and the connection with 'Cendrillon'. And as someone pointed out, doing something for 'Ringo'. I had forgotten about her not having a part. I mean she's had her moments but again we want her to be involved more even though she not a magic user. But again I feel there might be more to her yet.

Just watched the last one, subbed. A HUGE thank-you to TV Nihon for subbing this series and sticking with it for so long, too! You did a good job.

It's amazing how an anime like this can worm it's way into your heart. I absolutely *hated* to see it end.

But I got the ending I wanted after all, although it was subtle and probably arguable. I thought that because of everyone having to go back to their respective worlds that the romantic end would be RingoxSouta, but I was rooting for AkazukinxSouta all the way. The joining of their shadows and the interediting of Souta and Akazukin obviously thinking of each other says to me that although seperated, they still are together in their hearts.

I beg to differ. The implied ultimate ending is Akazukin x Souta imo. They were looking at the sky at the same time and feeling the same wind. The only 2 characters to do so. Ringo was not there. Besides, his mother is still there so that means that Akazukin can still come there. His mother even implied it earlier in the episode. So if they do a sequel....

Besides, in the grand scheme of things, his mother will eventually become too old to protect him. At that point, those girls have to come back.
