Kindaichi Shōnen no Jikenbo R (Kindaichi Case Files Returns)

Quote:
Kindaichi Shōnen no Jikenbo R (Kindaichi Case Files Returns), the new television anime of Yōzaburō Kanari and Fumiya Sato's detective manga, will reunite the voice cast from the earlier 1997-2000 television series.

Taiki Matsuno plays a high school boy named Hajime Kindaichi who usually seems dull, but when there is a case, he demonstrates remarkable deductive skills inherited from his famous detective grandfather. Akiko Nakagawa plays his childhood friend Miyuki Nanase, Juurouta Kosugi plays police inspector Isamu Kenmochi, and Toshiyuki Morikawa plays Kindaichi's rival Kengo Akechi. YTV's chief producer Michihiko Suwa was also a producer on the first series.

The weekly anime will premiere on Saturday, April 5 at 5:30 p.m. on YTV, NTV, and their affiliates. Just like 14 years ago, Kindaichi Shōnen no Jikenbo R will run right before the Detective Conan anime. The 1997-2000 Kindaichi Case Files anime ran before Detective Conan at 7:00 p.m. on Mondays to start the "Mystery Hour" of two detective anime. This time, YTV is nicknaming the new Saturday detective anime block the "Mystery Zone." (Detective Conan moved to Saturdays five years ago.)

The new Kindaichi anime series will have 26 episodes.

Personally this is one of my most anticipated anime next season. The original manga series is among my most favorites, and one of the better ones in the mystery genre that I've read.

The original manga's stories are still the strongest of the case files.

I don't feel like the subsequent mini-stories done after that, and currently running occasionally are strong anymore... Even the main villain and Akechi don't feel as solid as they used to in their sporadic appearances.

Honestly I don't really like Miyuki as a character. Most of the things I remember she does is following Kindaichi around and getting attacked/kidnapped many times. Personality-wise though, she's okay. But I just hope her role in the story could have been better.

Hmm, Kowloon Treasure case as the first animated arc?

I personally didn't enjoy that case in the manga.

I can't decide whether it's better Kindaichi or Detective Conan. Conan has more interesting characters and a central plot, but the cases in Kindaichi are longer, more detailed and the killers are harder to guess imo. Also, I like Kindaichi as a character more, as he doesn't ignore the fact that the situations he deals with are complicated and not necessarily like "bad murderer and good, unfortunate victim". His reaction to murderers with extenuating circumstances is more mature than Conan's I think, as Conan doesn't show any compassion even when the murderer has lost his/her family, killed by the so-called "victim" and has become a criminal due to the malfunctioning of justice. I still can't help it but wonder how heartless can Conan sometimes be, sending them to jail is enough, no need to act haughty and try to morally crush them, their lives were ALREADY ruined by the victims.

But anyway, both series are great, each in its own way.

And I also don't mind Miyuki as a character. I like Ran more, but she is ok too, and they are also childhood friends with Kindaichi (my favorite type of pairing).

Seems okay. It feels very 90s despite being in 2014.

But not bad overall. ^^

Was this Kowloon Treasure case in the manga or novels?

I read a lot of the manga, but only saw this mentioned briefly in another Hong Kong case.

Hadn't read this before so this arc will feel fresh to me. Having never watched the original version (rather bits and parts of the Chinese dub) I guess this's the original voice cast, but it really feels very ancient and odd to me at this time.

If I'm not wrong, Kowloon Treasure was initially a novel story.

It was adapted into a manga story arc in the 20th Anniversary volume releases.
