Crab and club can both be written as クラブ。In Japanese they are homonyms, so easy translation error if unfamiliar with what it's talking about.

Quick question - where are the Drrr!! numbers coming from?

Everything else I can see seems to match up with the numbers posted at http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com but your Drrr numbers for earlier vols are significantly higher. Your vol. 5 number is exactly the same as of its most recent appearance though.

The last time I see Drrr 2 charting is the week of 4/12/2010 with 23,147.
For Drrr 1, it's the week of 4/15/2010 with 24,810.

You both use Oricon so I'm curious about the discrepancy, when other stuff seems to match up. Thanks.

There is a legitimate reason for the discrepancy. Oricon tabulates the top 300 DVD sales every week, but only announces the top 100 on its industry publication, Oricon Biz (top 300 data are available at corporate prices).

They recently announced the top selling DVDs and BDs for the first half of 2010.
I didn't post the numbers here as I didn't think it was significant.

However, to answer your question, I herewith will do so.

Furthermore, you refer to a certain Japanese blog which indicates the weekly figures, but FYI, I post its source every other week here as my company subscribes to Oricon Biz (twice a month).

Ah, that explains it! Thank you very much for the clarification.

"Hitomi no Naka no Shoujo-tachi" is the subtitle for Kakyuusei 2 TV.
Doukyuusei and Doukyuusei 2 were only animated as OVAs (although an edited version of Dou2 was shown on TV at one point) so I'm guessing that should be the sales number for Kakyuusei 2 TV.

I'm not exactly sure how high it is, but I get the impression the number of shows that actually turn a profit through DVD sales alone is pretty low. I'm not sure if this is because companies rely on increased sales of source material and merchandise to cover some of the costs or if we just went through a market bubble a few years back - I haven't done any exact calculations, but it seems to me like average units per volume this year is significantly higher then a year or two back, but revenue for the industry as a whole is lower and fewer shows are being made. Perhaps it's a combination of the two factors.

A good rule of thumb, as 2chers would suggest, is the so called Manabi Line, which lies somewhere between 2300 to 3000 units sold. Obviously different shows have different circumstances (pricing structures, production costs, length, dependance on home media sales), so the question remains what does it mean if a show sold more than 3000 units per disc (usually the first disc)? Does that make it profitable as a whole? I'd say this just means the show had enough sales to cover all of the associated production costs.

With sales numbers like that, how in the world does Working not have a second season?

Because they are still busy milking S1 for all it's worth. (Is there enough material for a full S2?)

Mitsudomoe is a split season show, so it's not really a second season. And Kimi ni Todoke and Baka to Test are airing over a year after their first run.

Give it some time, it'll come around. Apparently there's not much source material to get a full second season in unless they go and rehash all that was skipped over in the first one and even then it would be a bit of a stretch.

Just give it some time, with those sales it's quite possible there will be eventually.
