Character Discussion - Kallen

IMO, the "following you to hell" part was pretty much an afterthought.
It seems to me that Kallen will regret not following Lelouch for a lifetime, after she understood him. And under this mindstate she might become the second Noin if she was given the chance to take a time travel back to the point when she asked what his plans were.

But I still believe, had Lelouch told her about ZR, she wouldn't have agreed with it or at least, not the whole plan, esp the Lelouch dying part.

From a writer's perspective, it's safe to say that they avoided the clash between Kallen and Lelouch because Kallen's very existence would have also created some uncertain factors around Lelouch and ZR.

You're probably right about how the writers didn't want Kallen to meet up with Lelouch again. Still, I thought it was going to happen like how Suzaku was determined to get to Zero near the end of season 1.

At everyone else. After reading an certain post in the romance thread. I was thinking has there been a discussion on what Kallen is going to do in the future? If there ever is a sequel, how would Kallen be presented in it(note:not only about romance, that much is pretty clear at least? I think they/staff could do quite a number of things regarding Kallen.

here is a concept i had

Spoiler for kallen in any future story line:

japan
student in ashford (has to repeat her 2nd year)
memeber of SC along with rivals and miya
keeps the stripped down guren frame in ashford (in the same way the ganimade was) for use as a pizza maker (and potential use for other more plot related purposes)
BFF with nunnaly (she has no one else left from ashford), they chat online and they hang out whenever nunnaly is in japan or kallen is in britannia (more on that later)
re-forging her bond with her mother and making up for lost time
keeps some contact with the OOBK members but mostly has litttle to do with them (she is much younger then them and they have few things in comman now that the war is over)

britannia
also re-building her relationship with her father (thanx to lelouch she no longer has to choose whether or not she's japanese or britannian, she's both)
her father has since moved back to britannia but kallen goes to visit him every month or so (she stays over a few days, during the course of which she visits nunnaly and tests a new KMF for Lloyd)
given her achivements during the war against lelouch (namely, killing lelouch's "Knight of zero") any shame she may have caused to the shtadfeld family has been erased and she is recognized (by her father at least) as the future head of the shtadfeld household (for the time being she refuses to except such an offer, she wants to stand on her own first)
corrent test pilot of the guenivir (9th gen mass-production prototype, kinda like a vincent albion) due to Lloyd's former test pilot being dead (to the world at least), his last 9th gen being destroyed and Lloyd bitching that its kallen's fault (kallen for her part does it for the fun of it, and only during her visits to britannia)
the guenivir however is being tested off the battlefield and as such kallen doesnt actually use it to fight anyone (only test it for the data)

as a whole she is happy and living her life as much as she can (living for two, as it were)
but underneath it all she still feels the pain of lelouch's death almost every day as well as guilt for getting to enjoy a world whos creation she fought her hardest to prevent (knowing about ZERO-R also means knowing what would have happened had they WON)
this conflict serves as a main part of her charater development in any future story

relationship with nunnaly
following lelouch's death kallen and nunnaly have become very close, with each one recognizing the importance of the other to lelouch and the pain they feel at his loss
kallen views nunnaly as lelouch's reason for fighting (much as her brother was for her) and as such vows to support and protect her in any way she may be needed as a way of keeping lelouch's dream alive
nunnaly for her part views kallen as lelouch's knight (in the same way that suzaku was euphie and gillford cornellia's) and understands lelouch's wish for her and the pain she feels about it (both pain and guilt over not protecting him)
as such she has also deceided to do what ever she can to help her to both get over his death and live her life in full

relationshp with suzaku
following the final battle on the damoclase any past hostilities between the two of them is now gone and both have a new level of respect towards one another
while the world in general views the battle as kallens victory (since suzaku is "dead") between the two of them each one considers the battle to be their loss with neither one interested in pushing it farther
how ever their relationship from the ashford days is also gone and they have since developed a relationship based mostly on their connection with nunnaly
suzaku being nunnaly's protector and kallen as her friend
since both are former "soldiers" they have little problem talking between themselves on potential risks and problems that nunnaly's rule may be facing
but when ever things get too personal kallen tends to coldly shoot the conversation down rather then allow for it continue

this happens mostly becouse of several reasons
1)suzaku himself refuses to remove the mask infront of kallen (as in, he is ZERO, rather then suzaku kururugi wearing the mask of ZERO) when in privete
and since ZERO has no personal life kallen isnt willing to share her personal life with him in return
2)kallen dislikes suzaku for killing lelouch despite knowing full well that it was on lelouch's orders
this stems mostly from kallen projecting her own feelings of guilt over trying to kill lelouch her self on to suzaku (who actually did it on lelouch's request)
3)following suzaku becoming ZERO he has become nunnaly's protector both out of his personal feelings for nunnaly and over his guilt for killing lelouch (lelouch had asked him to protect nunnaly, and he views it as a final vow to his dead friend)
this has resulted in suzaku coming to view nunnaly's protection as his duty to lelouch
unfortunetly his feelings of duty also extend (albit on a smaller level) to kallen as well (after all, he KNOWS why lelouch didnt include her in ZERO-R) and as such he doesnt really like her involvement in activites such as Lloyds new prototype (knowing that lelouch would have wanted her to have a more peaceful life)
kallen (who also feel similler feelings of guilt) knows this and is not willing to except him as a protector in any way shape or form
both becouse that would (in her mind) put her on a lower level suzaku rather then as his equal (as she views herself)
and becouse she is offended that he is being nice to her out of guilt rather then out of actual feelings of kindness

these factors make their relationship a very delicate balancing act for a considerable part of any future storyline

well this is what i have so far

That's alot. Mine's going to be so short compared to that.

In terms of Kallen's portrayal. I would think much like the post stuff that she'll be content with everything that she will be doing in the future. Loving Lelouch would be enough for her and taking care of her mother would probably that up alot of time on her hands. I don't see Kallen going after her own happiness at the cost of spending less time with her mother(Imagine what Kallen's reaction would be if her mother died). Even if that's what Lelouch wanted but do what she feels would be best of her mother and what her mother would like to see her do in the future. I don't see Kallen telling anyone(Except Nunnally if one of them reveals that they know the truth to one another) about what Lelouch wanted for everyone.

I'm in the opinion that if anyone or one of her old wartime comrades started hating on Lelouch for whatever reason. She probably would go along with it and not comment about it. Much like her mask during season 1 as an weak person, not revealing what she truly believes on the matter. I can totally see Kallen being the only one out of her friends and comrades that will be still thinking about Lelouch after everything and not moving on with her life in everyway. Lelouch's death would make it very hard for someone to be able to do that. Especially if Kallen might believe Lelouch wouldn't have died if she was be his side and putting that loyalty factor in.

Her relationship with Nunnally, I would think be very important if they both revealed that they knew what Lelouch wanted for everyone. Much like her talks with Nunnally when she was captured. Probably will always be about Lelouch and how they'll never forget him. Nunnally forever lost her brother she loved and Kallen forever lost the only person she loved so passionately and deeply(Lelouch being known as the demon emperor is just too huge of an factor and considering how big Lelouch impacted her life).

If Kallen ever confronts Suzaku in the future privately. What happened between the two during turn 16 would more than likely happen again. I can see Suzaku revealing why Lelouch didn't want her involved with ZR just so she'll know even though Kallen already knows. They'll be friends but probably not trying to see one another too much.

Wow, been awhile since I had a good laugh. Kallen herself stated she was worried about Lelouch not Zero at turn 9 regarding turn 7. She stopped refering to Lelouch as Zero when their by themselves after the episode. The director himself stated Kallen loved Lelouch at their moment together at turn 22(Did the person even read that?). Just look at what she said during turn 21. If someone doesn't believe that then just look at her poem.

Just look at it from Kallen's POV. She asked him about everything and she got silence in return not even an lie. I never understood why people believe Kallen is stupid and doesn't understand Lelouch(She understood everything Lelouch was trying to do just by looking at Zero at turn 25) when Nunnally herself didn't understand him just like Suzaku for most the series.

Well, while the show was a bit ambiguous about Lelouch's feelings, I've never seen anyone claim so vehemently that Kallen didn't love Lelouch w/ the nnly evidence to back it up is his/her own interpretation of scenes. It's fine that that's how he interpreted it, but if it goes against what the director/writer says, I think he/she should do some research before claiming his/her own word to be truth.

Oh well, it was funny at any rate.
