I was wondering if Shaft use the changing clothes scene as the 1st ep's ED on purpose. Because it look like they were force to censor that scene with a with bar across the screen where Sasami's panty would be showing. Then in ED whole scene is shown again, this time without the white bar. Just using the credits as somewhat of a censor, but you could clearly see her wearing panty.

Though I think they just forgot. It happens. Laser BETAs can be really whimsical.

i didn't expected things to turn the way they did, but not really "surprising" for a shaft show, also its very noticeable the good animation for a shaft show, the first episode wasn't really that good, but i cannot deny that like most shaft shows it satisfies that weird part of me.

Now this is the Shaft I've come to love, resp... wonder what exactly goes on in their series planning meetings.
First part was good, 2nd part was something else entirely, I'm not quite sure what it was, but it was something to see. Also, convenient censorship credits. edit I should add, that the eclectic music through the whole thing was also really enjoyable. edit again Forget hacking SERN, you know you've made it when you can compile a dll to exploit Skynet. And 1984 Big Brother. Last edited by 00Coyote; 2013-01-10 at 23:52. |

I guess I haven't seen enough Shaft, but...even by their infamously avant-garde standards, this was pretty far out there. But that's a good thing...at least so far. Hope the story goes somewhere (at least a few inches), but even if it doesn't, it might be something nice to unwind with after Psycho-Pass.
Their minimalist yet distinctive artwork wins again, especially the indoor scenes. The flat watercolors reminded me of a children's book, which is obviously fitting considering Sasami's character. (I hope she doesn't ask her bro to wipe her... :P Sorry, but I have a feeling that question was going to come up sooner or later.) Sorry if this provokes another Shaft vs. KyoAni debate, but IMHO, if KyoAni wants to go a more avant-garde route like they seem to be doing with Tamako Market, it might help the mood if they try a more avant-garde style instead of just recycling the K-On artwork. |

Good shit. The action part was a bit just action for action's sake; didn't really bring forth any tension or sense of danger so any judgement that the show "has plot" will have to be put on hold. However, the humour was high tier, even though I kinda hate the self-insert, fanservicey role of the elder brother. Nonetheless, Sasami-san pulls through with sheer execution. You cannot help but be entertained.
Most importantly, the visual style and cadence of this series is sheer luxury. This is what I follow SHAFT for, man. An eyegasm. lol, I couldn't ask for anything better for the first new thing in a while from SHAFT. |
